This is a game I found a few days ago and have gotten a little hooked on. It is a free browser based game that is like a watered down version of an Age of Empires style game, but is based in a world with all real players. The resources and wars are waged with a time table system where it could take your troops or merchants many hours to get to their destination and back. Should check it out if you have a couple minutes.

If anyone would want to play, I suggest you start on Server 3 and build up your resources. Do not worry about your current army for the first couple days unless you plan to build an army with the Teutons and raid other people's farms for their resources.

Server 3 is the newest server with players all having a fairly equal level of understanding of the game. For the first three days you wil have protection so you cannot be raided.

My game is Bosibus. If you have any other questions I can try to help. It is not a bad game, just check it 3-4 times a day and make sure everything is going fine in your village.

Thanks for the link. I started playing, and really didn't pay attention or develop any type of strategy. I just started buying everything I could, and now I am down to very little in supplies....

So hopefully by the time I am vulnerable to an attack, I will be well stocked, and can get some more people in my village....

Also, am I able to raid other villages for supplies or do I have to wait three days for that as well?

I believe it is for your protection. I made the same mistake and now I am playing "catch-up". Once, I get a marketplace I can shoot you some supplies. Just build up that cranny!

I am not sure about raiding another village, try it and see what happens if you have already built some troops.

How do you build your troops up? I built a rally point, so I can see what kind of troops I have, but each says 0. It says, I can raid/attack and stuff, but how do I get troops. My protections is done tomorrow, so I could be vulnerable.

You need to build some barracks.

In order to do that, I believe you need a Rally Point L1 and Main Building L3. Then, you can start.

The manual states what you need in order to build certain troops.

Thanks for the help. Once I built my main building to level 3, now it gives me the option of building barracks/hero mansion. Only problem, is I am low on everything, and will have to wait a day or two to be able to build a barracks.

Someone close to me offered to let me join there alliance, I looked and there alliance is ranked pretty high, but most of the people are really far away from me.

What I did is started one, got the feel for it, then deleted the account and started over. I made many mistakes such as building things I did not need instead of farming the resources. If you have any questions, I can try to help out.

I chose the romans, and you're right, you should do some light reading before getting on there. I didn't read anything and just jumped in and started building things. Now I can't build troops because I need to wait until my resources are better. OY!

Thanks! I don't know if I will last that long. I have the barracks built, but now I can't build troops until my resources are back up. But once my resources are back to respectable levels, then I will need to build new wheat fields, so then I will be back to square one again.

I might just delete this game and start a new one, and only build what I need, then go from there.

I could, in order to create an alliance you need to have an embassy level 3. And , in order to join an alliance you need to have an embassy level 1 (which is all I have). Once, you guys start feeling comfortable with the game, I would not mind at all. The alliance I am in now is people that I play some other games with, if anything at all, we can have an alliance with an alliance or a NAP.

It says to have wood, iron, and clay a level below wheat because your population uses the wheat daily.

Ex. Clay Level 2, Iron Level 2, Wood Level 2 but keep your Wheats at Level 2s and 3s

No, you can't build the barracks right away, you need Main building level 3 and rally point level 1. Your production is much higher than me, but I probably have a couple more buildings than you at the moment.

How are we all doing? Is everyone still keeping up with this?

I'm at a small fork in the road. My three day protection is about to expire. Should I keep improving my resources or start building defenses?

Resources
- I know I can be raided soon. What do I have to lose right now if this happens? I have a cranny that protects 200 (133 against Teutons) resources. That should be sufficient right now because I'm using my resources as soon as I have enough to upgrade something.

Wall
- I can build a Palisade right now for cheap. Would that give me decent protection? It seems like it might be a cheap, easy way to provide enough defense to hold off a small attack. Would this work? I don't know how attacking and defending work.

Barracks
- It will take a day or so before I can start producing troops. I still have to upgrade my Main Building from lvl1 to lvl3 and build a Barracks before I can spit out soliders.

Trapper
- I'm playing the Gauls, so is this an option if I upgrade something?


I'm leaning towards continuing my resource advancement while keeping my stored resources low.

If you wanted to you could pay a certain amount a month, and keep it like that for good, but I guess they just want you to experience what you could get with the Plus options.

It is getting addicting...I told the Pack guys to redraw your Alliance invite for now, when you get a Level 1 Embassy, post and I will have them send another invite.

As far as a OH alliance goes, if it is just us 4 playing, I would advise we stay with a larger alliance, if not, I do not mind creating our own squad.

I got the first invite for the Pack alliance, but I didn't accept, because I wasn't sure if we were making an OH alliance. My first village, has an embassy lv 1, so I can accept an invite.

I agree though, if it's only us 4 or 5 playing, maybe we could all join the Pack alliance with you Bosibus. Just a thought, maybe let your other guys know.

The guy had sent 10 men, like I said I only had 2. I lost both my men and he lost one. I had just built a cranny, so I had very few resources, so he didn't get much. But I am sure now, I can expect more attacks from him in the coming days, once my amounts get back up.

You just lose resources for now.

Later on in the game, buildings are damaged from Catapults and so on...

If you cranny up, you should be fine.

Yeah, I just lost resources and had very few because I had started building a cranny shortly after I saw he was going to attack me. I wrote to him, and he wrote back after the attack saying that he didnt think I would have defenders, so he said he would not attack me again.

Now as I go to check on the game again, someone else is on the way to attack me. This person population is over 250, so I am not sure what he is sending, so I am trying to use up all my resources before he gets to me.

I think I am just in a bad location, this is the second attack and my protection wore off yesterday morning, meanwhile my other village, has been going for over a week and no attacks on it.

If you read the manual, the Gauls can pretty much field an army of 10-12 people in a matter of hours for pretty cheap. But 30 people, unless they are getting their resources from other people via MarketPlace, I am not so sure.

Yes, you will get a report after the attack has ended, saying how many people he sent, how many casualties, and also the bounty that they took. I think the only problem is, if he realizes that you have no defenders, he can keep attacking you, thus making you a farm for him of sorts.

Yes, once you build troops, you can go to your rally point, and it list 3 options. Reinforce (which is what you are talking about), also gives options of raiding or attacking.

Your village might be growing. My population increases by 1 or 2 every so often and that will change your wheat production level.

I have run into a problem, because I have my wheat fields at level 3 and it costs a fortune to upgrade them to level 4, so my wheat production has been extremely low the past couple days.

I have been able to make 10 troops so hopefully if someone wants to attack me, I can at least defend my village. I also built a marketplace, so I might be able to send supplies to everyone.

Edit: I just sent my merchant to your village with some supplies, you should get them in about an hour or so. I have two villages and you are fairly close to one of my villages, I am at -99 -30.

Thanks! Yeah, you're probably right about the population. Everything else has a high production rate though, so I guess the logic is that the consumption cuts the production of wheat down. I guess I'll have to focus on wheat development for a while.

Yeah, your consupmtion level is based your population level plus however many troops you have. For instance I have a population of 83 plus 8 troops, so my consumption level is 91/104, so my wheat production is 13 per hour.

BTW, I recommend anybody with inactive players with small populations within 2 squares of you to build at least a 2 man army and continually raid them. I cann upgrade much quicker because of it.

That would be good. I have had a couple offers for alliances so far, but was waiting to see if we did one. I sent Wedge some supplies earlier from my merchant to help him build up a bit. I have two villages under different names so send it to -99 -30. That is a bit closer to Wedge, the other village I have is really in the middle of nowhere, or at least no one from here that is close.

When you see that the attack has been launched you send your troops away. Send them far enough that they won't return until after the raid has ended. I've never done this before, so I don't know exactly how to time everything. I do know that it works if you do it correctly.

If you read the rules, what you are doing is ban-able offense. But, I am not sure, I guess you could try.

Attack is a fight to the death with the other army, and if you win, you get resources.

Raid is minimal units lost.

It is a really fun game, but takes a bit to get into it as you need to build up your resources quite a bit to begin. If you do join let me know your coordinates and I can send some resources to you.

I have started to build up resources, but currently I am out of resources.

I got a message that says that if I build up a wheat field to level 3 I will get more resources. So that is goal 1. Unfortunately I started growing broadly instead of deeply - building more fields to level 1 instead of one field to level 3.

After that goal number 2 is a cranny. And goal number 3 is a military as there seems to be a few ignored villages ripe for plundering. Since I am teutons I should be able to do this easily once I get resources.

Also, I do not know if it is good or not, but I have a village bordered on two sides by lands with lots of animals... does anyone know the function of these squares??

Just so you guys know, you can have one account per server. They just started up a brand new server today that goes at 3x speed. I started one w/ the Gauls there and plan to build a defense first village. My coordinates are (17|-41). Since it just started, everyone is on equal ground in this one. Plus, it is a lot faster.

Yeah, its something that you can check on daily at first. Once you build up resources, it will get faster.

I'm starting to get on a nice roll now. If anyone needs anything don't hesitate to ask me or the others in the alliance. I'm always willing to spare some resources or troops (in the near future) and some other guys have helped me as well. I think teamwork will be very important later on.

The game gets pretty slow for a while, but it picks up. As long as your cranny is a high enough level to protect your resources and you don't have any troops nothing can happen to you at this point. Later in the game you can get attacked by siege weapons and chiefs, but that's down the road. Don't worry about your neighbors yet, just focus on your own production.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Teutons have a raid bonus when they attack. Your cranny will only protect 2/3 of its max against Teutons. Your cranny that normally protects 170 of each resource will only protect about 115 of each resource against a Teuton attack.

Build your fields up one at a time. It's inefficient to have a level 3 wheat field if you have other wheat fields at 1 (so I've read). And it can't be stressed enough, keep icreasing your cranny. I've someone raids you successfully they will keep raiding you. Don't give your resources away for free!!!

Yeah, what yardbird said. I'm impressed with the generosity of everyone in the group. All you have to do is ask for help and people line up to assist. It looks like everyone is making good progress and some are really rolling along.

I think I'll be bumping up my cranny to protect my resources and bide more time. Hopefully, won't be attacked often, if they can't get much of anything. Otherwise, working toward Barracks - as someone mentioned: raids seem to be more profitable for resources than your early fields.

I made a mistake and misread my clay reserves as wood. So I upgraded my wood spots when I really needed clay. Whoops. :o Recovering though.

No, the only place you can build the rally point is the crescent to the right of the middle square. Doesn't even look like a plot of land, but if you click on it, you'll see. This was a tricky one to find.

Just make one of the guys in the OH a sitter. You can do this in your profile section of your game. Assign a sitter and they can use your name and their password to access your account and someone will watch over it and make sure it is growing.

Once we get out of this little "scuffle", we will start sending resrouces to everyone's village that is new. To get them off the ground.

Just keep on building things, and upgrading fields. Everytime you upgrade something, you population jumps.

Only because of how you are reacting to it. We have stated our intentions about the long term goals and people were on board when we were talking about it for days in the forum. But now, everyone seems left out. Kinda weird. No one said a word against it when we were thinking about leaving, and if they did, they were as upset about it as people are now.

We're making a real effort to get the rest of the Hangout people into STD with us. To do that you all have to step up your game. If you need sitters to help then we'll do that. This is a war game and if you don't keep up you'll get crushed. It sounds cold, but that's the way it is. I've talked to big players in other alliances and this is exaclty what they've told me. If you allow yourself to be a farm you will be a farm.

We're all on the same team here. We want everyone from the Hangout to do well and we'll do whatever we can to make that happen. Just stay in touch and let us know what you need.

We are working out a deal right now hopefully, if everyone is still interested. Just get your village populations up by builing and upgrading resource fields. Try to grow around 10 a day if possible. The larger you get, the easier it will be to do! :002_shappy:

I've been thinking... I thought I smelled smoke... Whenever Travian opens a new server (I'd prefer it NOT to be a speed server, but whatever) As many of us as possible should jump on, from day one!

This comes from my Civ background. If I start a game, and I don't like my opening plot, and I can't get to a better plot on that first turn, I quit and start again. It's also like the money managers are always screaming about 401k's. Get in TODAY. You will have interest tomorrow. If you wait til tomorrow, you will have lost that days interest, then the interest on the interest, etc. and etc.

Also, the game seems to place players from the center out. Whether we pick SW or what, we could have a bunch of players in close proximity, making our own safe zone. If we all get on the first day, we could even have players pick all four directions, SW, NW, NE an SE. A big group of players right in the center of the map.

Even the stragglers (other players) who only wait one week to join, we will all already be to 75ish pop while they start at 3. When they reach 75, we'll be 150, etc.

Nothing against OH or STD, or even a pipe dream floated in our forum, that both alliance join U... I don't want to be a little part, contributing to building the World Wonder and winning the server. I want to be THE alliance that directs it all. :D

Resources are good. Troops right away, not so much. If someone attacks you, you're just going to lose them. And they can afford to lose theirs a lot more than you can at this point. You need to build crannies and walls. And crannies. If someone raids and gets nothing, they won't keep hitting you. Did I mention building crannies? You should probably build up your crannies. :p

EDIT: And every time you're on, spend all your resources down to nothing. Keep your stores down below the limit your crannies protect.

This is a game I found a few days ago and have gotten a little hooked on. It is a free browser based game that is like a watered down version of an Age of Empires style game, but is based in a world with all real players. The resources and wars are waged with a time table system where it could take your troops or merchants many hours to get to their destination and back. Should check it out if you have a couple minutes.

If anyone would want to play, I suggest you start on Server 3 and build up your resources. Do not worry about your current army for the first couple days unless you plan to build an army with the Teutons and raid other people's farms for their resources.

Server 3 is the newest server with players all having a fairly equal level of understanding of the game. For the first three days you wil have protection so you cannot be raided.

My game is Bosibus. If you have any other questions I can try to help. It is not a bad game, just check it 3-4 times a day and make sure everything is going fine in your village.

Send the resources if you want to stay on the server. They are serious. Make sure it is only 1 hours worth because yu could get banned.

I'm not sure of all the rules myself, but my guess is if your civilization gets eliminated you can't play again on that server.

There is nothing wrong in wanting a third cranny. Some people have 4 to 5 until they get going. You will eventually get to the point where you can defend yourself pretty well from raids, so you wont need any so you can just demolish them.

Get an alliance.

An alliance helps, if it's a true alliance, willing to help it's members. And crannies too. I had 5 til I was secure enough (and needed the spots to build other stuff). Troops help to a point... They cost you worse than any bully attacking. The overall strategy early is simple tho, really. If someone raids you and gets nothing, or gets their hand bit doing it, they'll leave you alone and find easier pickin's.

And that's the main reason that our alliance isn't going to work for you. If I'm not mistaken, you're in the SE quadrant of the map, while our whole group is in the NW part. There's no way we'd be able to help you much. I'm actually not a recruiter, but I don't believe they're currently recruiting out of quadrant.

Well Weams bought me lots of gold for Xmas so hopefully that will help to save my butt! I have 2 more days of protection but the 2 guys right beside me have about 3x the population. I am building walls and cranny's and maybe some troops tomorrow.

You get 15 gold pieces when you start then you have to buy (with real money) more gold. Click on the plus button it will show you more.

Is there away to know how the size of the army of someone that's coming to attack you? When I've seen an incoming attack I never know how many they have and I'm not sure if I should keep my army around to take care of the problem or have them get out of dodge so they are not all wiped out.

That damned game sucked the life out of me but it sure was a good time. I'm certainly going to miss it.

I'm tempted to play again so I can avoid all the mistakes I made. I ended up ranked about 120th in population and had a decent hammer that I got to throw at a WW. I'm sure I/we could do it up even bigger and better this time around. Still, I'm not sure I want to devote so much time to a game. We'll see what happens.
