Here's an article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/19/AR2007081900015.html) by Mike Wise talking about the D stepping it up.

I'm rather optimistic that the D will return to their 2004,2005 form with the additions of Fletcher, Landry, and Smoot, along with McIntosh starting and looking good, and with Springs back and healthy. Those are some big upgrades imo, and it's not like they've lost much from last year on D.

Taylor is also apparently in the best shape of his life and is more mature and focused. Plus, Carter really looked good towards the end of last year, so hopefully he'll take that success into this year to provide a solid pass rush. Now if they can only create some turnovers.

Keeping Springs healthy is the key, imo. The front four doesn't generate a good rush, so it's important that they have good cover guys. They have looked really good so far, but in the preseason, teams are keeping their offenses simple. Hopefully, McIntosh and Landry can carry their performances into the regular season. McIntosh should be a huge upgrade to that gaping hole known as Warrick Holdman.

It may be preseason , but the defense has looked good in the first 2 games. I'm really hoping the defense steps it up ; last year the defense was horrible in the turnover department
