I know he's no longer an O but I figure it belongs here since there were a lot of questions about giving him up. Just today he hit a HUGE game winning hit against division rivals Detroit Tigers to win the game putting the Indians in the lead for the division. Whats more is that the hit came off of Zumaya, a player that the Tigers clearly hope will help turn things around for them. Good for Gomez, he's got to love being on a contending team.

Wasn't Detroit the team that Cleveland claimed Gomez just to keep him away from? That has to really sting for them.

I couldn't be happier for him. I'm actually hoping that the Indianss advance to the World Series this year.
I was watching the game and when Gomez came up to bat I said he is going to get a hit and sure enough he came through. He always seemed to be a good clutch hitter especially when he played against the O's. I hope the Indians get in the playoffs because I am a big Gomez fan. I wouldn't mind getting him back on the O's next year.

I listened to that game on my commute home today via XM. And, I actually cheered for Gomez when he got that hit. Good for him.

Detroit was lower in the pecking order (the ability to claim)... so there was no Cleveland claiming him to keep him away from Detroit.

Seems like that would be the ONLY way they could have kept him away from the Tigers, that they were higher in the claim order.

Detroit had the first shot at Gomez (between them and Cleveland) and didn't put a claim in on him, because if they did, than the Orioles would have to deal with them instead of Cleveland...

I'm still upset about losing Gomez because every year we pack it in during August to look at new players and these players are not the caliber of players like Gomez. This franchise needs to get to .500 one of these years so we can attract some quality free agents.

They let Gomez go so that Freddie Bynum will get the playing time instead of Gomez. Bynum will more than likely be the utility player in 2008.
BTW - he went 3-for-4 in today's game...
