Can D1-AA players get into the hunt, despite lower competition, i mean surely if they put up redic numbers they should be able too be the "best college player"

Omar Cuff, Delaware
244 yards, 8.133 ypc, 7 touchdowns (one game)

I think any player in college football is eligible, regardless of what level. There have been a couple occasions I recall that a 1-AA player was a fringe candidate. But aside from the fact that they get far less attention, I think the voters also consider what kind of numbers said player would put up at the 1-A level.

that's my alma mater! I still think they'll lose a game this year though

Brennan will certainly have ridiculous stats at the end of the year but I can't see him being at the top of anyone's list at the end of the year considering the system and the (lack of) competition he'll face.

Hawaii could be Boise St this year...Brennan should certainly get votes.

Absolutely, he'll get some votes. But no matter how eye popping his stats look he isn't going to win it and will be a huge longshot to make it to the DAC.

He should get some votes based solely on his numbers. Unfortunately though he will be victimized by that all-too-familiar Flanaganism known as "Geographical Bias", since few of his games will be televised and the ones that are will be on after the voters have already gone to bed. Not many people will be able to see for themselves just how good he is. He's also a much better pro prospect than your prototypical run-and-shoot QBs of the past that looked good just because of the system they played in. He has the arm, size, and athleticism to make it at the next level.

On a related note, the 2008 NFL Draft should be a good one for QBs. As many as 5 could go in the 1st round.

I love the 2008 draft class for QBs. You have Ryan from BC, Brennan from Hawaii, Woodson from Kentucky, Henne from Michigan, and my favorite Brohm from Louisville. I'm not a fan of Woodson or Henne, and definately not White. I think White will struggle in the NFL, but would love Ryan or Brohm.

And don't forget Booty @ USC. I doubt he's a 1st round guy, but he'll be picked before the first day is over. White is only a junior and won't file for the 2008 draft. His best shot in the NFL is to switch to WR.

Geographical bias is part of it, but system bias is also a factor. His predecessor threw for a gazillion yards and ~ 120 TDs over his career. Whomever replaces him in that system will throw for a gazillion yards and a boatload of TDs.

But I agree w/you about his pro prospects. I've seen him play a couple of times and he seems to be able to make all the throws and he does a superb job of putting the ball exactly where it needs to be.

Yeah I was a little worried after the first half, but I think the best thing that could have happened was for it to end. We just pounded the ball the second half and really tired out the Marshall D. And of course it's always nice when you can rest Slaton and White and not miss a beat with Noel Devine racking up 2 TDs and 76 yards on 5 carries.

We still have to get better on pass defense and pressuring the QB.

Probably not a Heisman candidate this season, but here's the best college football player no one's heard of yet (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=272510264&confId=9).

Omar Cuff had 4 touchdowns on 93 yards rushing in the first half of his game today, and they didnt play him in the second half, that puts him a little over 330 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first two weeks (and thats really only 5 quarters as he didnt play the second half today, and sat almost all of the 4th quarter last week)..
