General MLB Question: ROY

OK, we had a similar thread (Foreign vs. Domestic basically) earlier on this but this deserves its own thread.

Should MLB separate the Rookie of The Year Award? I mean should MLB separate the Pitcher ROY and the Position Player ROY, similar to how the NFL seperates the offensive and defensive ROY's in their league?

I think they should. The same way that many players think the MVP and CY Young Awards should be separated, wouldn't it make sense to do the same for the ROY Award?

No, not at all. just a general baseball question. I'm huge baseball fan as well as a huge O's fan! :D

I really think they should separate the two, think it would do a lot to promote the "rookies" (depending how we all define "rookie" :)).

No. Rookies are those that have never played (or very limitly played) in MLB. You open up a really ridiculous can of worms if you start separating based on where they came from.

My question was whether they should separate the ROY award from pitcher and position player.

Where they came from is a different story an in my mind does man matter.
