Hypothetically, if you could only root for one team, which team would it be: the Ravens or the O's?
Also would you rather win the World Series or the Super Bowl?

Well, since the Ravens have already won a SB, I would have to go with the O's winning the WS since I have barely ever experienced the Orioles being good.
However, if I had to choose between rooting for either team, I would go with the Ravens because football is the more exciting sport to watch and the Ravens are a better run team that gives back more to the fans than the O's could ever imagine.

I would rather have the O's be good than the Ravens.
I love both teams but I grew up with the Orioles and that is where I have the strongest tie to. Even if they yank me around all over the place.
I love my ravens, but there is nothing like a warm night and Orioles Magic.
Maybe one day I will see it again.

As much as I love the Ravens, I'd have to say the O's. The O's are tied to my childhood so it's a sentimental pick.
However, nothing beats rooting for the Ravens especially when you're at the game, tailgates or the Purple Patio

I"ll say the Ravens. Football is the most popular sport and what America seems to live for these days. The baseball season is too long and doesn't hold the sporting public's attention.

O's and World Series, no question.
I'll also put Maryland Basketball and an NCAA Hoops Championship above a Ravens Title, although below a WS.
I'd probably put Ravens football above Maryland football, although its very close.

Replace the Ravens w/the Colts and this sums up my feelings exactly.

They only play once a week... please.

The Orioles. I admit watching the Ravens beat Pittsburgh is more exciting and viscerally entertaining than watching the Orioles sweep the Yankees, but at the end of the season I have more invested in the Orioles and baseball than I do in the Ravens and football. The Ravens are like a hilarious comedy while the Orioles are like an Oscar-winning drama.
Now i would say the ravens. The FO/owner the coaching the players everything fundamentally about the team is better run and played with more passion. I wouldn't care if we lost if the o's came to the game like the ravens D i would want that more. History is with the O's of course but i only been an O's fan since like mid 80's because i was born in 79.....

No. It makes sense. It just looks weird.

True, maybe that is why people love football though.
I can't remember the last time I went to a World Series party and I don't know of anyone around here who has them. I go to a Super Bowl party every year no matter who is playing. I think the Super Bowl is a bigger event than the World Series but I guess its all about personal preference.
If you had asked me this question 10 years ago when I was living in Baltimore and the O's were still respected, I might have an opposite answer.

They are exactly even for me. I couldn't make that decision.
Football is a more fun sport to watch, baseball is a more fun sport to follow. I love both teams equally though.

Nah, that would be fantasy football and gambling.

Well, the Super Bowl is an event in itself... it's a social gathering where the game is just a backdrop and even gets the backseat to the commercials. It's just an excuse to get skull-locked drunk and sleep on someone else's floor (just another excuse to do that).

I really don't think that football is the more exciting game, at least for me personally. I would rather watch a Pirates/Royals spring training game than a Steelers/Ravens playoff game. Superbowl Sunday? It's a great day to go to the movies.
Football doesn't really have all that more action than baseball, as far as the amount of time that the ball is in play. But it's the type of action football offers, the extreme violence of the game and perhaps the explosiveness of some of their athletes, I guess, that appeals to the masses.
Football seems to be a game that is made for TV, baseball not as much, and often what is wildly popular on TV, American Idol for example, doesn't automatically equal the best product for the viewer. Even if some think TV ratings equal greatness because we're told that everyone in the country is watching.
So, obviously I would rather see the O's win a WS than the Ravens win a SB. I don't root against the Ravens by any means - just indifferent to the game. I've been a lurker on this site since the Tejada signing/Vlad non-signing. This is my first post. Sorry it's so long, but I love the Orioles and I love the game of baseball. I certainly don't love how hard it is to be an O's fan, but my enjoyment of the game manages to override the former.

Welcome to the board, Lestor. I'm always curious when a "lurker" first comes on... out of all the threads you've seen on here, what made you respond to this one?

Thanks Glen. To answer your question, I guess it was just to represent for baseball. I've been close to pulling the trigger on a post quite a few times over the last couple years usually in discussions of baseball vs. football or in the movie and tv sections. I guess a part of me is resentful of how big a role the NFL seems to play in our culture. Just me being petty and self-righteous? Perhaps. I guess I can acknowledge that. ;)
Anyhoo, since I broke my post cherry (can't believe I'm using that expression) I'll keep checking in on this thread but not sure if I'll get around to posting regulary. That being said, I've been reading you and obviously lots of the other guys and gals here for quite a while, and I'll continue to get my O's news from here.

Yeah, that's why MLB has had record-breaking attendance and record revenues over the past few years ....
... the dissing of baseball is hilarious to me. I just don't get it. (And you know what, it's been going on for some 40 years. There were commentators -- Howard Cosell, included -- who said, in the mid 1960s, that baseball was a dying sport.) Reports of baseball's death are greatly exaggerated.

Ravens in a close one. I love baseball , but football is still the best sport around this time. Some angry baseball fans brought up a football vs baseball discussion the other day on another forum , and they were upset that whenever football season came people forgot about baseball. To some extent , they were right , because the last 3 days I've been glued to my TV watching college and pro football. I've tuned out of the baseball world , but my MLB.tv will be up and running again Tuesday (at least until Saturday.)

Orioles, though its close. Orioles winning would last much longer, and involve them winning many more games. Also could be because I am used to the Ravens winning, and the Orioles losing. I should remember the 97 season, but I don't. The only thing I remember is Jeffrey Maier and Roberto Alomar.

I'd have to say the O's. I have very vivid memories of having Colts wallpaper in my room when I was 3 1/2 and my Dad in my room on that grim March morning, crying (at the time I didn't know why) because he knew his boys (my brother was 1 and obviously doesn't remember any of this) would not grow up with a home town football team like he did. Then the Ravens came in '96 and then 5 years later, won the Super Bowl. But during that football void (not including the '85 USFL Stars & '94-'95 CFL Stallions), the O's were always here. So for me, although another Super Bowl would be fantastic, another World Series would be so much more sweet.
Nah, that would be fantasy football and gambling.
Guilty:D
What can I say... Fantasy Football and Football Picks Leagues make me actually want to watch games like Detroit at Oakland. Without FF or Picks Leagues, I wouldn't be watching the Cards and Niners right now.;)

I'd rather the Orioles be good and compete each year.
I mean up until the year the Browns moved to Baltimore I was a Redskins fan...and I could easily move back to that...and that says alot because I LOVE the Ravens.
