I just went into my kitchen to get a drink and noticed an awful smell. I looked around, couldn't find anything. Finally I opened a cabinet which contained only a bag of organic russet potatoes which I bought just last weekend and hadn't used any of yet. I looked at them and thought about making a baked potato just two days ago and they were fine. I don't buy full bags of potatoes often since I live alone, but they were on sale and I can remember my parents keeping bags of potatoes around the kitchen for awhile when I was a kid. Well apparently these potatoes were about to rot when I bought them because when I opened the cabinet, there was an awful smell, the potatoes were visibly rotten, and a thoroughly disgusting brown liquid was seeping out of the bag and had saturated the bottom of the wood cabinet. Perhaps even worse, all these little bugs that look like light brown fruit flies suddenly flew out. It is the worst smelling, most disgusting thing I've seen in a long time (although I'm sure it doesn't compare to KellyO's misfortune today) and all I did to deserve it was try to buy organic and in bulk. Screw that! Now my kitchen smells like Laz Diaz's umpiring and I have no idea how I'm going to clean the yuckiness out of the cabinet. (Yeah, I'm a little obsessed with him today.)

Gross! Well, you know what they say: When life gives you rotten potatoes, choke back your vomit and THROW THOSE SUCKERS OUT!

(we haven't had the best of luck today, have we?)

Rotten potato is one of the foulest smells ever devised.

That reminds me of this quote which I love:

The stench coming off Mike Mussina's stuff last night invaded your nose like low tide. And the rest of the Yankee hurlers reeked, too.

:D

I really wish Mike Mussina would get out of my kitchen. The potatoes themselves are long gone but the stench still lingers in the floorboard of my cabinet.
