So apparently my bosses and our office manager just fired our receptionist. We were notified a few minutes ago by an email that just said, "As of 5:00 PM Thursday, [receptionist] is no longer employed at [firm]." I was sitting in my office furiously typing away into an Excel spreadsheet of rehabilitated low income housing units and heard none of it. We've all been able to see the writing on the wall for awhile, but I can't believe I was sitting right down the hall and missed the whole thing! All the people who know what happened seem to be acting all professional and not talking about it, at least with me since I'm the newest associate planner in the office and right out of grad school. I heard plenty of furious whispering in the office across the hall from mine, but they clearly didn't want me to hear them. This 'makin me mad' because a) I want to hear the sordid details and b) while she wasn't a very good receptionist she seemed like a nice girl and I would have at least liked the chance to say goodbye to her. Oh well. I hope she finds a new job that works out better for her.

We had a firing recently...and the drama was there! A guy choked, then punched another guy! Quite the exciting day.

A few minutes before 7 this evening, I was the last one left in my office. Normally we don't bother to answer the main phone line after business hours but someone kept ringing it so I finally picked it up. It was our old receptionist who quit for personal reasons a few weeks before I joined the firm. She said that one of our senior planners had told her to call him at the office. She still hangs out with people from our office and I know she hasn't been entirely happy with her new job. Hmm......

At least it wasn't you! I got canned once. Though I ended up landing higher on my feet than where I left.

Last week I convicted a guy for burning his workplace down after getting fired earlier in the day.
I hope your building is still up tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I should be alarmed by how badly I'm cracking up over this.

Also, was he randomly found on a small tropical island, and then expidited to your jurisdiction?

That's "extradited." "Expedited" is what you pay $20.00 for so FedEx will pretend it actually cares that your package gets there faster.

No, I meant what I said. ;)
I thought Milton had a line where he would "expidite the closing of this establishment." He'll "burn it down."
