I remember it well. I just knew we were gonna beat them 4 in a row to take the division especially with Palmer on the mound, but cakes didnt have it and Yount did.

The fan reaction after that game was the all-time greatest moment in the history of Oriole Fandom. It left even Howard Cosell at a loss for words. It was sad but beautiful, all at the same time.

I still feel the rage about Gulliver getting thrown out at the plate.

What a weekend that was! We listened to every pitch of the double header
on the radio. Went to Saturdays game and stayed with friends in Towsend
and then witnessed the Sunday game from the right field bleachers. I remember having a bad feeling watching Palmer warm up for the game,
and then Younts HR right in front of us....still, those were the days!!!!!

I remember walking to Memorial Stadium from my buddy's house where my sis had parked, 100% certain that Palmer and the O's were going to win that day. We were talking about playoff matchups, WS tickets... One of the most disappointing sporting events I've ever witnessed. I was in the minority up there in the upper deck, but I did not feel at all like cheering when it was over, Earl or no Earl. I was stunned at what had transpired. I certainly didn't boo or anything - I just kind of stood there gaping at the scoreboard. Eventually I joined in the cheers for number four, but my heart really wasn't in it. I couldn't believe the season was over after the amazing events of Friday and Saturday.

I cut out the Oriole cartoon on the front page of the Sun the next day: It showed a setting sun with "82 season" on it and a sad Oriole bird walking dejectedly away from it, with the 10-2 score underneath. I had that thing taped on my wall til I moved out of my parents' place some 10 years later. I don't know what was tougher to get over, the '79 debacle to Pittsburgh on that loss to Milwaukee... Both were devastating to this impressionable young die-hard O's fan. Boy, what I wouldn't give to be watching my Birds in the post-season right now!

It made me feel a little guilty to root for the Brewers over the Cubs this year. They stole Earl's last pennant.

They're in the NL now, Leitch. They can't hurt us anymore.

(At least, not like that.)

With our luck they'll beat us in Game 7 of the 2012 World Series, and Pittsburgh will be all like Haw, haw

Sigh...I remember sliding Ben Oglivie making that grab down the left field line.

I never wanted a team to lose the World Series as much as the Brewers, and Joaquin Andujar became my favorite non-Oriole of all-time for his 2-0, 1.35 performance after taking a batted ball off the knee. "One Tough Dominican"!!!
