This drives me nuts. There is no 'd' in 'congratulations'. It's not 'congrads' - it's 'congrats'.
Or are my friends the only illiterates that do this?

No, not by half. It's people spelling it the way they say it.

But what if you're congratulating people for graduating? Then "congrads" would be an acceptable play on words.

There has never been a less acceptable pun in the history of puns

The English language has never, really, had a strong enough velvet-rope policy when it comes to puns. Nothing but B&T in the land of puns. ;)

My favorite is still 'definately'.

There is no a in finite.

Or "I got an a hundred on the test"
It's 'a one hundred' or 'a hundred!'

Or "rediculous". There is certainly no shortage of spelling/grammar mistakes, but then, we all make them from time to time.

Mine is defiantly. It makes for more interesting interpretations.

To put this into baseball terms, will we EVER learn the correct spellings of Teixiera (Tiexiera) and Wieters (Weiters)?

For all intensive purposes, I agree. Grant it, the English language is very difficult for people to grasp, even when it's there dominate one.

Not to rain on your parade, but...it's Teixeira. ;)

It's actually spelled Calvin Edwin Ripken III. Or Messiah, for short. ;)

The trick I use is to remember that his name breaks the "i before e except..." rule twice.

This is especially sad when *its* people *that* grew up *hear*.

Another one that's been making the rounds here is "peaked my interest".
Miguel Tejada peaked in Baltimore.
This offer of prospects X and Y and possibly Z for Tejada has piqued my interest.

My personal grammar pet peeve is people who say "supposebly" instead of supposedly.

The worst is probably "loose" when somebody wants to say "lose". How do you not know how to spell lose?
Also: "The 'worse' is probably loose." That's brutal. It's worst.
Dominate vs. Dominant. bleah.

I am actually a grammer and spelling freek in reel life. I should of nown that someone wood fall four my Trix. I expesially hate, a type of parenthetical phrase, misplaced oppositives pour coma useage and dangling modifiers. ;)
Grammar pet peeves of the day:
1. None of them is here. (not are)
2. I wish I were out playing basketball. (not was)
3. Everyone contributed, and obviously Mike’s finishing those goals to give us the lead was huge. (not Mike. I'm looking at you, DP copy editors)
4. "Hi, is square634 there?" "Yes, this is he." (not "this is I" or "this is me").
I know sometimes those things don't sound right, but thanks to my anal mother and some SAT prep I have an ear for them now.
