What a bufoon. He just compared Kansas football this year to Cal Ripken because all they did was "go to work everyday." Maybe he should look at Cal Ripken's actual resume. Maybe he should look at his MVPs, ROY, GGs. Maybe he should look at his WS. Maybe his 400 HR and 3000 hits. I've never been able to tolerate this bum. Instead of making good points, he makes terrible ones...LOUD. But now, he's proven his ignorance yet again. And ESPN puts him all over TV and their radio station now...

It's all because Cal Ripken is white.

Claiming that you're not impressed with Cal Ripken and that he's overrated has become a mandatory part of being a "cool" fan. I don't know why.

I have only three words to say about that guy...."I hate him!" Next question!

I'd post my opinion on Stephen A. Smith, but not only would I get banned, I would lose all my respect for Tony and the other mods if I DIDN'T get banned.

He's a reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer who is the Al Sharpton of ESPN... his entire purpose is to be either so incredibly lous that his opinion is the only one heard. I can't wait to hear his Barry Bonds explanation...

Im sure it will be something like: "Jeff Kent injected Bonds night after night, even before the two were teammates in San Fran. Barry never could get a full nights sleep without being awoken by a ***** in the bum."

The really crappy thing about Smith is that he's holding others back by his presence, both because he's literally blocking them, and because he gives them a bad name.

The couple of times I've seen his show I've liked it.
Skip Bayless said Ripken was overrated and his totals were unimpressive during the run up to the HOF vote before the season, too. He's certainly not the only idiot/"intentionally controversial guy" on ESPN

How little actual talent is available for these very high-profile, high-paying jobs is a source of jaw-dropping wonderment for me.

I don't think Skip Bayliss helps your argument any :p

They don't concern themselves with talent. The goal is to get the loudest buffoon with outrageous opinions and/or moronic, immature catch phrases to somehow appeal to the "hip generation" of children/adolescents who are apparently unable to think for themselves and/or realize that the sports are about sports.

If that was completely true, then Scott Van Pelt wouldn't have a job.
I think it's a carry-over from the late-90s when that WAS what they were doing (see: Scott, Stuart).
Smith must be blackmailing (he probably finds THAT racist, too) someone at ESPN, because he went from newspaper reporter to opinion contributer to Sportscenter semi-anchor too quickly to make sense.

I hate his schtick. I guess I'm getting old, because he must appeal to some demographic out there. I've never heard say a single racist thing, so why does he come across as a racist?

Screamin' A?!?! He got demoted by the Philly Inq, stripped of his column basically. Now he's lawyered up and getting ready to sue apparently. He's considered a general assignment reporter, but he ain't writing for them. He'll continue to just clown around for ESPN.

It isn't being a racist. It's suggesting that negative attention that comes to someone of a different race "is because he's black", so to speak.
You can comment on how race and sports and society connect and disconnect without blaming racism; just look at Ralph Wiley, Jason Whitlock, Michael Wilbon, etc.
Plus, he has the added downside of having an opinion on everything on demand and being loud about it. It doesn't make him, or Skip Bayliss, or anyone else any more credible. Just makes them come off as arrogant and self-promoting.

To me that's borderline racism. Maybe it's just his angry it's rough being black schtick. I don't know. he's a freak.

Ah. What did he do?
It's what he didn't do... which is write many columns, put much thought into them, or pretty much do anything to even suggest he cared about his Inqy job even a smidgen compared to ESPN. The demotion was to get him to quit basically, since he's paid a lot to not produce much.

How can you have a job like that and not know anything? If it was your job, wouldn't you work at just a little bit? I realize it happens, but it amazes me. Just like I don't understand how guys can be baseball or football play-by-play guys and not even know the friggin' rules, but that happens all the time too.

Skip Bayless is the dumbest sack of botox & tanning oil that has ever graced television. If you were to put Bayless,Colin Cowherd, & Screamin A in the same room the vortex of stupidity that would result would end the universe.
