This is either gonna be epic, or yet another horrible franchise game.

Considering I have been waiting for 19 years for Ghostbusters 3, and this is the Ghostbusters 3 I am going to get, it freaking BETTER be epic. The footage I saw looks pretty cool. Hell, I won't care if the gameplay sucks if the story and the feel of the game is Ghostbusters, and I am sure it will be considering it is being handled by Ramis and Akroyd.

I have to say, though, that when they announced this, I jumped around the room like a little girl for about 45 minutes, and then high fived my girlfriend who, inexplicably, has never even seen either of the Ghostbusters movies.

The thing I noticed in both the screen shots and video released is that the situations are from the first movie (chasing Slimer through the hotel and the fight in the ballroom, Stay Puft), but they said this is acting as Part 3 and is taking place in the 90s. So what's with the separation between what's said and shown? Training levels maybe? Or a "past battles simulator?"

The two things I have heard are:

1) They are just using those old scenarios (the ballroom, Stay Puft, and even the courtroom from GB2) as demos, of sorts, to show off the engine while giving us some familiar situations.

2) These levels will be included in the game as tutorials.

Not sure which is true, though. I think it would be awesome if they had a simulator of sorts in the game which allowed you to replay scenes from the first movies. The number of extras they could include in this game that would make my head explode... like the Sega Master System Ghostbusters Game for example - I loved that game when I was a wee one.

There are a few more things I've heard that are kind of weird. Things like, the governement has placed an oversight committee over the Ghostbusters, and Walter Peck will be in charge of it... again the source of this information (www.protoncharging.com) looks a bit questionable, but that's what it says. I don't see what the rationale for bringing him back into it is, even though he was a great character (is William Atherton even still alive?)

The site also says they will be bringing back the library ghost, to "answer a longtime question fans have about the first movie - what ever happened to the Ghostbuster’s first real ghost."- I just hope they don't try too hard to be like "we remember the old movies too! Let's make a ton of references to them that are totally unnecessary!", unless they bring her in as a flash-back type scene to the time of the first movie.

How Walter Peck ever got a better job after his screw up in 1 (even though part 2 established most of the blame still fell on the Busters themselves) would be a great mystery, yes, but I'd look past it for a good storyline. And yes, as far as I know, Atherton is still alive.

My issue would more be that it would seem like too much of a stretch to bring him back. Of all the people who could be picked to run this "Paranormal oversight committee", why pick an EPA guy? Kind of weird to me, but knowing Ramis and Akroyd, though, if they do bring him back in, I have faith they'll make it work.
