Thought there was a thread about this a while back, but after I searched for it, I couldn't find anything.

Anyway, it looks like they're making a new Terminator trilogy, which is good news to me since I love these movies, even T3. McG has been attached as director and yesterday it was announced that Christian Bale had signed on to the 4th film, although his role is unknown. It's rumored to be John Connor, but nothing is definite.

Anyway, I think this is good news. If Bale can do for Terminator what he did for the Batman franchise I think these movies will be pretty good.

Also, The Chronicles of Sarah Connor starts on Fox this January. Can't wait for that too.

Any other Terminator fans out there who are still excited to see more Terminator films on the big screen?

If they're written well, then the movies should be pretty darn enjoyable. While I thoroughly enjoyed T3, it wasn't terribly strong in that area; hopefully they'll sharpen it up a bit. A lot of people don't particularly care for McG, but Supernatural and Chuck are two of my favorite TV shows (he's heavily involved in both), so I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. And with Bale possibly involved, that just increases my interest.

A whole new trilogy would be cool. If done right. T3 was probably the weakest, but still very good IMO, and answered/fleshed out many questions.

I wonder if Terminators age? They could get the old, flabby Ahnoldt to reprise his roll. :p

They could go into the future, show how the humans finally beat the machines. They could even go farther into the future, ala Demolition Man, and unfreeze some characters that were incarcerated. They could show Reese's history. They could even expand on the rise of Cyberdyne (?) how it was secretly driven by some James Bond esque villain, bent on world domination. The possibilities are endless.

Some promising, and not so promising news on the Terminator homefront...

Those boys at CHUD, or more specifically the very frottage-able Devin Faraci, has posted a bunch of new details from "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," the upcoming fourth film and kick-off of a new trilogy of Terminator films.

Most interesting is that John Connor (Christian Bale) is NOT the main character in the fourth film, but rather will have a more sizable role in the fifth movie.

Instead the main character is Marcus, a Riddick-esque guy who was 'put out of commission' before the nuclear holocaust and wakes up on post-apocalyptic earth around 15 years before the future shown in the original "Terminator".

No actor has yet been cast in the role but they will be required for all three films and will be the 'star' of the new trilogy which is apparently getting good buzz from those who've read the script and all call it epic in scope and great in terms of action.

That action includes battles with the rubber-skinned T-600 terminators, the differences between the humans and cyborgs are said to play a big part in the story, whilst the character of Reese (Michael Biehn in the original film) has a scene with Connor.

Not sure I like the idea of this Marcus dude getting a majority of screen time in the first movie of a new trilogy... but if handled well, I'm game for anything. Also good to hear that the script is getting good buzz around H-town... guess we know why Bale signed on after all.

Why not just focus on Reese, for god's sake.

Why not just focus on Reese, for god's sake.

It sounds like the main theme is the difference between cyborgs and humans. So it would make sense for an early model cyborg (Marcus) to be the focus, especially if he was decommissioned before Judgment Day and then woke up to find that the machines have gone ape-*****. But yeah, I am not too thrilled about new characters being introduced this late in the game and taking up precious time. It happened all too often in the Star Wars prequels.

I think it'd be so much cooler to see "the rise" of Reese throughout the war, with John in the periphery, always making sure he's okay without ever tipping him off that he's looking after him. And you could have that meeting Reese talks about in the first movie where John gives him the picture of Sarah.

I think the writers may be trying to distance themselves from Reese since the paradoxes with him are probably hard to navigate through in a reasonable way...

And I don't know why this is, but I don't want to see Reese be the focus of the NT... I'd rather have John be it, or at least this Marcus guy. We already know who Reese is and how he serves the story. We still haven't seen a lot from John yet.

Again, at any rate, I am sure we'll see our fair share of Reese for continuity's sake, ie, him being transported back in time to protect Sarah.
