From youtube or elsewhere.
Here's Cheap Trick — introduced by the Nuge, no less — absolutely killing on The Midnight Special circa 1978 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEHlZN7U7Tk). (The OP obviously got the date wrong.)
Enjoy, and post often! I'm bored!

Here's Rush playing a song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztv8lsgpmmI) from their first album, recorded before they went progressive, on their 30th anniversary tour. They are one of the few "classic rock" acts that can still sell out a venue and put on a good show.

Man, I've posted a bunch already....
Papa Don't Take No Mess. Tightest. Band. Ever.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mMYnZu9fdVA
Michael and the J5 auditioning for Berry Gordy. Bad tape... AMAZING tape! Before MJ was MEGA-cool and then later just weird. He's like 7 years old here, doing James Brown. Incredible clip.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZS4bDqBEGuk
John Lee Hooker. THE bluesman just wailing. Not what you'd expect.

Tull! KILLING at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival! Watch this whole thing, Ian just goes OFF.

Lindsey Buckingham, one of my favorite songs. Couldn't find the YouTube version anymore, so I posted the copy I... have :D

If I had to pick one... this is the most amazing song/performance I have ever seen. Jimi at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. This opens his set. The mega-famous setting his guitar on fire Wild Thing ended his set. This is better. ;)

Rods & Cones (from their documentary they played the heck out of on public TV about a year ago) I saw them in Vegas and this was the song that most blew me away at the time. Not just the song but the presentation is awesome. You don't get to see much of it, but after they talk about "the persistence of vision" there is this CRAZY spinning piece on either side of the stage that starts up and looks awesome. Like skeletons dancing around a bonfire or something.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVgB9VmWLZg

Noel Gallagher, "Help" Acoustic (http://youtube.com/watch?v=diILXIKf8dM&feature=related) - My favorite version of a classic Beatles song.

My favorite live performance ever. I've watched it a million times.
Also, Kitty's Back on Conan, 2002 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=sootRGvIuGo). Though any performance of Kitty's Back will inevitably be awesome. This one has La Bamba.

The Raspberries live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuAy4VjfDlY), circa 1973.
The Move doing "Words of Aaron" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoNkToIcogo) on the Old Grey Whistle Test, 1971.
And a couple for my benefit:
Husker Du live, covering the Byrds "Eight Miles High," 1987. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeqyCwAeT3I) Just wow.
The immortal Mummies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXmLsdajYow) performing "You Must Fight To Live On the Planet of the Apes," CBGBs, 1993 [NSFW]

Thanks for mentioning the Slits and Bad Brains. Bad Brains released the first hardcore record, along with Teen Idles. The Slits peel sessions is amazing, but their reggae/dub isn't anything special. The Peel Sessions is straight up, unadulterated 77 punk.
