View Full Version : Worse player in the NBA

I was watching a little bit of the Miami-Lakers game today when the most out of place player I've ever seen in the NBa came onto the floor for the Miami Heat. He was so bad I had to look him up and that when I found out he was Chris Quinn (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4192).

I've never seen smaller, slower, less talented player given a chance to play at basketball's top level. After looking over his stats in two years, I have to ask myself, what kind of crazy pictures does he have or Pat Riley to stay in the NBA?

He's slow, short, can't defend, and after looking at his stats, can't even shoot. Sometimes I wonder if the NBA really has an unwritten rule that teams have to have at least one white guy on the team regardless of talent.

I don't know what this guy did in college, but he has no reason being in the NBA.

I remember him being a good shooter at ND.

He's probably one of those tweener guys who can shoot the lights out in college but are just too darn small and slow to get their shot off and play the 2 in the NBA. Not sure how he stuck around for a second year, but I'm sure he'll be forced to give up the dream eventually.

Two (well, three) words for ya:

J. J. Redick...This about sums it up...from Wikipedia:

Redick competed against Trevor Ariza and Keith Bogans for the starting shooting guard spot in 2007-2008. He was pulled from playing more than once for his lack of defense during the preseason. [2] He came into the season as a third stringer and has seen limited action due to back spasms.

The article does go on to mention how Redick clearly writes better poems than both Mr. Ariza and Mr. Bogans, so that's something, right?

Just for fun...
Notice the contract comparison as well...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3024

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3046

And here's a small list of players taken in the 2006 Draft after Redick who are getting significant time and contributing to their teams:
Ronnie Brewer
Rajon Rondo
Kyle Lowry
Jordan Farmar
Craig Smith (2nd Rd)
Daniel Gibson (2nd rd)
Paul Millsap (2nd rd)

Quinn was undrafted for the record. Taking all things into account, I would think any NBA General Manager would rather have a cheaper option (Quinn, who gave them some good minutes when Payton and Wade went down last year) than a Lottery pick making $2 million who can't get off the bench or more importantly free up any cap space to help you make a deal to get another defender down low (Marcus Camby perhaps?) to help with Garnett in the playoffs.

How bad are you when an NBA team benches you for lack of defense?!?!

I have one for you. Avery Johnson has decided to put Mo Ager into the starting lineup...

He has 60 minutes played and 15 points this year. He may not be the worst player, but certainly the worst starter.

Uh, the Miami Heat vs the Los Angelas Lakers game? Does that help?

As for Quinn vs Reddick, I agree, if I wanted a scrub, I'd prefer him to be making the league minimum instead of whatever Reddick is making.

Obviously I haven't seen every player in the NBA, but Quinn looked so out of place on an NBA court that it actually looked like one of those old commericals where the everyday guy was put in by a computer competing in some major sporting event.

He was bad and if he did put up some decent minutes last year, it certainly must've been evened out by some horrible minutes because his numbers were terrible.

No offense to the guy, but seriously, does anyone think this guy would be on an NBA team with his lack of skill if he were anything but white?

Exactly, my real point was the money issue between the two. Not that I'd choose to have either player on my team at all, but if I HAD to, I'd take Quinn over Redick.

As for last year, for whatever reason I remember a game where he just went off, scored 25 or something. It was probably memorable because it seemed so out of place for a guy like that to have a game like that.

As a 5'9 white guy myself, I simply live vicariously through guys like Chris Quinn.

Heat-Celtics maybe? They played on 11/30.

Yeah, there have been a lot of 7 foot stiffs of all colors. Uwe Blab was probably the worst I saw. He was bad in college but had a good NCAA tournament game and was somehow a mid 1st round pick.

Chris Quinn was actually a very productive PG at Notre Dame - if you never watched him and just saw his stats, you'd think - this guy's gonna be a good pro.

Chris Quinn had 17 points tonight, he's not THAT bad. Michael Ruffin is definitely the worst player of all time.

22, actually. He can definitely shoot despite being horribly unathletic. I like guys like that though that find a niche because they've mastered the open threeball.

Ruffin definitely was the worst offensive player ever. I don't think he could finish over me.

Again, you guys need to watch Sasha Vujacic. When he doesn't hit his 3s you're better off playing 5 on 4.

Oh I absolutely loathe him. He's my least favorite Laker by far so I suppose I'm somewhat biased. What exactly does he bring to the floor?

His only positive attribute, IMO, is his shooting ability which isn't always consistent.

Well, like you said, his shooting ability is the main thing he brings to the table. He's also a 6'7 guy who can play the point, solid passer and ball handler. He's been playing better of late as well.

Hey Brian

I lurked here for a long time before I started to post and I have noticed that you hardly ever post in the O's section anymore. Is there a reason for this or am I incorrect.

Just curious

Still want to nominate Sasha for this title?;)

Speaking of 3's, is there anyone else who would like to see the college 3-point line moved back? I get sick of watching teams launch 3 after 3 after 3.

Lol, maybe he read my post and got motivated. Pretty happy with sweeping the Bulls this year, even if they aren't playing that well.

Hey,
Sorry, forgot to get back to you for a while. I just don't have anything interesting to say about the O's recently. They need to go into a long, long rebuilding process and anyone can see that. For some reason they continue to waver in the middle and I'm sort of disillusioned right now and that's not going to change until Bedard, Roberts, Hernandez, Payton, Bradford, Walker, etc. are gone. I'm still a big fan but really just read the O's part of the board now--so much of it is caught up in these daily insider updates and I realized they hardly ever happen so it's really not worth getting caught up in if you're just getting the news of a few hours ago in the constantly-changing F.O. environment.

So, you're correct, I sort of just lurk on the O's forum now, post a ton more in Wiz/Skins stuff since on those your posts don't get buried and its much easier to stay active in conversation and I am big fans of the directions of both of those teams, especially the Wizards. Thanks for asking about me though, lol. Later.

Bump. Believe it or not, Quinn's having a really nice season and is an amazing shooter. Definitely will be a spot for him in the NBA for a while. I'm sure he can't play any D and that's part of why the Heat are atrocious, but he's definitely a solid bench player.

I agree, he dropped 24 on the pistons or someone the other week. I think there needs to be a new nominee.

The guy has really become one of the top bench players in the league.

I don't recall him being that bad earlier this year, in years past, yeah, he was bad, but never should have been mentioned in this conversation imo.
