What are the most shocking movie endings that you've seen (saw?) which one do I use.
Mine I think is Arlington Rd.

Was it how Kevin Costner keeps getting work?

The one about the people in the woods. It's not "The Village People", but it's something like that.

The Village? Come on... you didn't see that coming a mile away?

You know, I hate that bit in Family Guy because 1) No Way Out is a good movie, and Costner was just fine in it, 2) it was made at the beginning of his career anyway. I know it had to fit in with the "I haven't been this confused since I saw No Way Out" line, but couldn't they have picked a more recent movie?

Especially when the writer/director has made his coin on twist endings (what a twist!) and was probably tapped for too much too soon. The well had started to run dry by The Village.

The first movie that came to my head was The Departed, when Matt Damon goes back to his apartment and it looks like he is gonna make out scott free, and the Mark Whalberg is standin there with plastic bags over is feet, and just blows Matt Damons brains out. Incredible.

Definitely the Sixth Sense. I had absolutely no idea that that was coming.
Same. Shyamalan should have stopped making movies there, though.

I'm sure at some point in history it was shocking that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father.

You know, I saw the trailer for that on YouTube. I don't know if they just didn't know how to make trailers back then, or if people were not as wise to twist endings, but it gives away the ending pretty blatantly. I mean, it shows part of the scene at the end, in the factory with the conveyor belts. It also comes right out and talks about the death of a major character that doesn't occur until pretty near the end.
The movie that comes to mind for this thread is Chinatown. Technically not a twist "ending" because the twist is revealed with 20-30 minutes still to go, but I absolutely did not see it coming. At all. (By the way, the DVD has the original trailer, which also gives away important plot twists. What gives with '70s trailers, seriously?)

The same can probably be said for the ending of Psycho.

The Wicker Man - 1973 version and 2006 version do it the same way, but I definitely was shocked by the ending. Very unhollywood.
