"Root For The Red Sox" ?!?!

I love Orioles Hangout, and spend many happy hours here reading / debating / laughing / learning. I try to support the Hangout by being a paying member, being active, following the rules, and clicking on sponsor's ads.

But I must admit that I am shocked - shocked! - to see a banner ad that reads, "Be Prepared To Root For The Red Sox!" on my beloved Hangout! :eek:

I'm sure "Shop Imperial" is a terrific company, and I hope they are helping keep Orioles Hangout running smoothly, but really, couldn't we have an ad for O's stuff instead? They sell loads of cool Orioles gear! If I see a "Be Prepared to Root For The Yankees" ad, I'll plotz.

Okay, that's my nit-picking rant for the day...I guess I should have put this in the "Rants" thread.

I normally don't pay attention to the ads but you mentioning it made me check the banner and wow. The fact that it might tick off some O's fans aside, does ANYONE think that's good marketing?

Relax you guys. They're Google ads. I'm pretty sure Tony can set it up where certain ones won't appear and this might qualify as one of them, but don't think we'd purposely solicit sponsors like that!

I know you were just joking, but think about this just a sec. Tony gets money when people click on the ads at the top, right? For people to click on them, they have to see them. The problem is that most of the time, you don't really see them. They're on your screen, but that's not what you're looking at. You sorta tune them out, it's only natural. But if you took some of that empty space up top that doesn't have ads in it, and you put naked ladies up there, then I betcha more people would look. Which means they'd be more likely to see the ads nearby. You could make it a profile choice. For most readers, they'd see naked ladies. For some posters, they'd see naked BRobs. (For people who are bothered by that kind of thing, they could see Jesus or the deity of their choice; agnostic prudes could see a big question mark.) For people who aren't members, they wouldn't see anything, which is yet another reason for them to join. Seems to me like it'd be an improvement for everybody. Now, at the moment, Tony likes you. You've done such a great job recently, plus he's in a good mood just because he's not still stuck over in you-know-where. I'd say now is prolly a good time for you to ask him, while your stock is still high and before he has a chance to get grumpy. Whaddya think?

As for rshack, I don't know where you get the idea that I'm grumpy or that I need to be talked to while I'm in a good mood. I would think very few people thingk i'm grumpy. Now, if you're still upset from the vacation from the board that I gave you awhile back, all I can say is get over it, ok? You served your time, you were allowed back, and as far as I'm concerned you are a member of this community. The little digs are almost getting as sad as that guy who went by Gentile who from what I hear, still bashes me on the Suns board.

Seriously, it's time to turn the page. I've let numerous people back onto the site and some have become a very big part of this community. I have no problem letting bygones be bygones, but for some reason some of you take this stuff way too personally and hold lifelong grudges.

No kidding. The main course over their is sour grapes and everyone washes it down with a tall glass of Hater-ade when it comes to their opinion of this site.

I hate to lend them credibility by admitting to reading over there from time-to-time, but it's HILARIOUS the misconceptions at "THAT" board:

3. We all follow Sports Guy's lead and will pounce on any outsider with a post count lower than 1000 for disagreeing with him. No knocks on SG (and I don't think he cares to be honest), but I don't think he'll be winning the OH Mr. Congeniality award any time soon.

I was just joking. The whole thing was a joke about McLovin's naked ladies joke. I didn't mean anything about you being grumpy, any more than I thought that McLovin's stock was gonna fall soon, or any more than I thought he would really ask you about doing it, or any more than I thought he should really put up different pictures for people with different beliefs. It was just a joke, the whole thing. Honest.

ps. In a different post, I joked with him about his arb-numbers, and I said that you might not be thrilled with them. I didn't mean that you'd be upset by his arb-numbers or that you didn't want to pay him for doing a good job. So, if you should see that post, please don't think I meant anything by that one either.
