All the news and discussions of this report have really got me worked up and on edge. I guess this really isn't much of a rant, but I apologize if I get snappy with people I'd normally get along with.. I think I need to take a break from the OH for the afternoon.

You're absolutely right. Very smart decision. I should have done the same thing myself.

Was going to throw this in the short rants, but this thread is just as appropriate.
My MR rant...
People who don't get that this isn't a comprehensive list of players who took steroids or other PEDs. Why aren't Sammy Sosa or McGwire on there? Because they were not associated with the sources used for this report. Does that mean that they never took steroids or andro or whatever? No. Duh. Use some common sense and logic. They very well could have or did. You can't draw a conclusion about people not listed in this report by their exclusion from it.
Likewise, as many others have pointed out, you can't necessarily draw conclusions about people who were included in the report. The information detailed is that which was made available or uncovered by Mitchell and company. It rarely tells the entire story about a given player's situation. And since the players largely chose to not even defend themselves against the accusations, we have even less information on which to base our opinions.
Geez "general public"... use your *!^@ing brains for once, and look beyond the sound bites, or what clueless, bubbleheaded morning-show-host-types are telling you and figure it out on your own.
Ahhh... much better.

Right. It's only 400p. Meanwhile, I see sportswriters on TV saying, "Where's all the BALCO guys? I guess this means Barry is now back at the bottom of the list, 'cause they didn't find any evidence on him..." No kidding. National baseball writer from the Chicago Trib said exactly that on Keith Olbermann's show. Keith generally knows baseball, but even he had it all screwed up.
It's never about the substance, it's all about the cheap headlines that don't really mean anything. And we wonder why people vote for the wrong guys. Same thing, really...

I had a big argument about this with my grandfather that started because the front of the Sun's sports page was all black with "THE LIST" in white block lettering and I was all mocking it and he's like "It's a big problem with baseball".
Can anyone name one of Mitchell's reccomendations without cheating back to the report? I couldn't even find one given a cursory glance at the paper this morning. But everybody in the world knows that Roger Clemens had his trainer stick needles in his ass.

What Baro said. The Mitchell Report was semi-hard evidence (plastic evidence?) against the people that Mitchell could pin down. IMO it's assumed that the number of the guilty is 3 or 5 times as many. Any of all of our favs being named is no big thing. At least half... thus MOST of EVERYONE who played did some wrong. As much as I hate to admit it, Jose Canseco was dead-on right, this stuff was rampant. Almost everyone dabbled. Those named in this first report are just that.... first. Certainly not last.

This is why it would help alot if the media would just take their job at least half-seriously. They have an important job to do, which is why the Bill of Rights says that the gov't can't stifle the press. The reason for that isn't because the Founders wanted the media to get high ratings. The reason is that the press is supposed to be telling us what's going on and what people are really up to. It's easy to say that everybody is supposed to figure it out for themselves, but who's really gonna study this whole thing. Just the Mitchell Report alone is 400p, and it's not even about the whole issue. (Plus, it's like this about every single issue you can think of: if you wanna know what's what, you gotta make a big homework project of out it.) But instead of the media helping us out with this, they're just gonna make cheap headlines, and show video of guys while they quote highly flammable soundbites from it. The only work they wanna do is the easy work, like printing lists of names.

Much to my dismay, even Bud Selig admitted he didn't (yet) take the time to read it.

Too bad that didn't stop him from getting on TV and waving it around while he blamed everybody involved *except* the owners. He very carefully left them off the list of culpable parties. According to Bud, everybody deserves blame (which I agree with) *except* the owners (which is BS, plus it's fighting words). Just what Baseball needs: the Commish picking another fight with the players on behalf of the owners.
