Does anyone else hate this man as much as I do? Just looking at him makes my skin crawl. He looks like a sleaze and sounds like a sleaze. He's a big reason for this problem by fighting for the players' "right" to take PEDs without being caught. Who's with me?

Hate Donald Fehr all you want, but if you were a major league player, you'd be happy with his leadership of arguably the most powerful union in the world.

I absolutely can not syand that guy. It sickens me every time he goes out there and vehemently stands against steroid testing.
I don't know how he sleeps at night. What a joke.

I never liked the look or sound of Fehr. He's earned his money though, you gotta give him that. All in all, I found Marvin Miller to be a much more engaging and interesting character, at least from a distance. I have no news about how each guy handled himself, but my impression is that Miller was better at being able to consider lots of possibilities, and not just dig in to one single position. I think Miller was more of a negotiator who figured there was more than one way to skin a cat. My fantasy is that Fehr would just dig in and say "Oh, yeah? We'll see about that", while Miller would say, "You don't like my proposal? OK, well how about if I take advantage of you in a different way instead? Would that be better? It would? OK, very good. That's better for everybody then. Now, sign here..." But I don't know why I think that. It's not based on anything, just an impression, that's all...

Donald Fehr is doing what he's paid to do, run a union that puts the interest of self above the interests of individual members or society as a whole.
That doesn't mean what he's doing is right however. If he or the people he represented had to work in the real world they'd all be out of jobs or in prison.

I wouldn't say Fehr does what is in the best interests of his membership as a whole. Too much of what the union does puts the star players interests above those of the rest of the union.

I don't see how. When a nobody like Jay Payton is making $5M, I don't see it. When a utility IFer is making more than a million per year, I don't see it. Pretty much any ballplayer who hangs around in the bigs for several years is guaranteed to be a multi-millionaire who never has to work again. Any union naturally gives good stuff to people who last. Any group of *anybody* does that, not just unions. I'm not sure who's among the ML players is getting screwed. Even somebody who only lasts a year or two at MIN salary is still making a whole lot of money compared to anything else they could be doing.

Oh, I don't know about that. I've seen pretty compelling arguments that sports unions actually hurt the star players the most because they need the support of the majority of players, who, unlike star players, are generally ordinary/replaceable.
