Constantly bashing our boards and always linking our boards with info that goes down. These are probably the same people that drive the guest list to 300 guest at a time to get their info, and slowing our board down. Grrr... They drive me nuts. Okay, Rant over!
I must point out that there are some respected knowledgable fans over there!!
Most of them have been (rightfully) banned from membership on this site, so you can't take it too personally. And if they hate this site so much, they'd stop linking us and coming over here.

Jealousy breeds hatred.
Why the Sun board constantly slams the Hangout I will never know.

That whole site has become deplorable and dominated by posters with the mindset of a high school clicque. Furthermore, I cannot stand the Yankee intruders over there. Only on that stupid site would Yankee fan Interlopers be not only tolerated but embraced while they insult the Orioles and their fans. No self respecting true Oriole fan would enjoy posting over there IMO.

Belkast - Now, I respect your rant, as this is what this forum is for.
That said, I'd really prefer that the words 'Sun Board' never show up here. The reason being is that we should take pride in the fact that 10% of the threads over there are about our board, and usually 0% of the threads over here are about their board. We average 30,000 users per day, with over a thousand posts per day. A quick check of their board shows 11 Orioles threads were updated today, and one of those threads is about Tony.

That's pretty much my complaint about the place. Reasonable discussion about baseball is much tougher to find than people trolling or bullying other for their opinions. If you think this place has elitists and "strong personalities" you ain't seen nothing. And if I wanted to read so much about the Yankees, I'd visit a NYY forum.
I find their venomous attacks on the Hangout humorous. The sad part is that there are good posters there too - it's just difficult to put up with everything else to listen to them.

I find it quite humorous that a quick check had four thread dedicated to bashing me. The Sun owes me some money because half of their board traffic is based off what's said here at the Hangout.
I just feel bad for the good posters over there. I know that board like any board has some good, smart people but they get beseiged by such crap including 4 or 5 insanely jealous posters who seemingly spend hours upon hours hours bashing a site they say they hate, yet know so much about. :D

You should see some of the other fan boards....Just amazing.
Had one guy telling me that Bedard is definitely not a #1....That he is a #2 and that there are at least 10-15pitchers better than him.

What's amazing to me, and I mean this in an admirable way, is that you can find the time to read other message boards AND top 52,000 posts here.
You're like Santa Claus. There must be dozens of guys signing in as SG and bloviating away. :D

I've got some questions for you all and it belongs right here about Boardwarfare. I like both boards, and have stated so on the sun board about here and have defended OH. I have taken Tony to task over there, but I did so here, too, and I'm not trying to hide it. That, however, was directed at one person, and not an entire board.
What is the point of generalizing, here and there, about entire boards?
There are differences, but I'm not yet sure which one I like more. This may not seem important it except that if I decide to stay here, I will have to pay money to post. If there is going to be antagonism here and there what's the difference. Tony, you have a vested interest in attracting people to your site to sign up. I understand that. As I consider the plus membership (really like the minor league info - that's great), and becoming part of the OH community, one of the biggest issues I have with OH is that I find it more of a clique than the Sun board. You do a particularly good job of keeping threads orderly. Sometimes, however, I read what you post and I wonder if you are concerned about alienating potential customers, if you're trying to do that on purpose, of if you're not concerned about it at all.

As much as this is a business, I don't moderate my board thinking about customers. I try to treat everyone the same although obviously we give our long time posters a lot more leeway because they have proven to be valuable members. Saying that, if you repeatedly break the rules you get "vacations". My moderators and I try to stay away from banning people as much as possible, but I think it's pretty obvious that were right a lot more then we are wrong. I have personally let dozens of people back on after they wore me personally and we talked over the situation.
It's the ones that decide to bad mouth me and the site in other places "Trust me, people send me links to stuff all the time," especially with out right lies that make me know I've done the right thing.
Basically, the site and our board stand for itself. Some people have made the Hangout a big part of their lives and they I take great pleasure from the fact that people have told me so. At the same time, I don't begrudge anyone who doesn't want to pay and wants to post elsewhere. That is their choice and I don't hold ill feelings towards them at all.
Everyone is welcome here as long as they follow the rules. Contrary to popular opinion of some rowdy posters at the sunspot, you don't have to even agree with me to stay here.
I like to look at Hangouters as my online family. We sometimes fight and we might not always agree, but I'll protect them and they protect me when outsiders take shots at me or the Hangout. I think most people really enjoy here and if you come in with good opinions and make good posts, a poster will have no problem fitting in quickly.

I've done the same in the past, and honestly, it's less to "defend OH's honor" than it is to recruit some of their best posters to leave their board and come here. There are a handful of really smart people over there whose opinions I'd really like to read with frequency. I just can't wade through all the BS and name-calling over there to find the 5 percent of quality.
Finding OH was a Godsend for my baseball habit; otherwise I wouldn't have learned nearly as much about the game, and my blood pressure would have reached critical levels on a daily basis.

I for one posted over there from 2000 to 2005 amassing over 5,000 posts and when they had that stupid reputation feature was considered a solid gold poster. Yet, I rubbed the wrong people the wrong way and not only did they ( a clicquish group controlling the board) railroad me by launching personal attacks with inpunity they got me banned for breaking no rule ever stated in their User Agreement. (multiple use of the word "retarded" as I was describing a certain performance of an NFL QB and there is no such rule peroid.)
One of them has posted over here a handful of times and I sent him a PM and told him this site won't let him and his cronies gain control so he might as well go back to his own domain, and wala he has'nt been back.
What bothered me the most though was the so-called moderators over there were not only not doing their job as they had to be in cahoots allowing that clicque of posters launch personal attack after personal attack like a pack of wolves while falsely accusing others who were not violating any rules and getting them kicked off for phantom violations! It just was so blatant it is beyond description!
I can assure you that none of that is allowed over here, as not only are they more strict but they are extremely fair and unbiased. You are also given a fair opportunity to explain yourself if you are viewed as doing something wrong here. The site (Tony) is a great guy, a patriot and solder putting himself on the line for our freedom and country. He is the best site owner and fairest minded I have ever dealt with as well. Other sites could do well to follow his standards.

Rep points to you for speaking your mind, amateur fan!
Keep in mind that before I was the Managing Editor, before Cary was our tech guy, before John was the Managing Editor then Associate Editor, before Tony was the owner of the Hangout, we were all O's fans. It might not be reflected in our front page contributions (articles, interviews, etc.), but we take much different liberties when it comes to the message board in terms of expressing our opinions. While I still have to maintain a certain level of conduct as a moderator, this is my outlet as Scott the fan. I imagine that applies to the rest of the staff to some degree. Despite working together, you'll find that Tony, John, myself, and the rest of the staff rarely see eye-to-eye. If you'd have seen the e-mails that went back and forth this off-season regarding the prospect rankings you'd understand what I mean! I believe our different perspectives is what lends credibility to this site overall, both in terms of journalistic quality and fan opinion spectrum. For instance, Jon Wilt is a stat-head. I personally lean toward what I perceive with my own eyes and my gut feeling when it comes to the beloved game of baseball.
Based on the diverse opinions of this staff along with the natural frequency with which we all contribute here, it's not hard to conceive that we'd all find ourselves consistently in agreement with a common group of like-minded people. Exactly who I regularly throw rep points at and agree with is quite often not who Tony, John, Jon, Cary, or the rest of the guys agree with.
Despite each of us finding ourselves predisposed to certain baseball mentalities, I can assure you that none of us has allowed that to corrupt our decisions regarding the moderation of this message board. Case in point for me? I consider Wedge one of my favorite posters, both on the web and the one or two times we've met in-person. Unfortunately, I've been compelled to ban him for violating the board rules here. Same goes for several other guys (NewMarketSean, for instance) who fall under the category of guys that I feel like are good online friends but I've been forced to ban for some period of time for violations of board rules.
I hope you'll do some pokin' around here and learn that I'm not kidding and that I'm not unique as a moderator here at the Orioles Hangout. Tony's banned friends of his, John's admonished guys he likes, etc. Hopefully you'll come to learn that it's really not "Tony's way or the highway!" and stick around!

Did anybody see the thread on "the other" message board today about how somebody on a Seattle board said an "O's Insider" said the O's wanted Sherrill in a Bedard trade because they were going to flip either Sherrill or Walker to the Braves for Lillibridge?
