View Full Version : Why do the drunks flock to Sheetz?

I'm from Richmond, VA and I am a manager for Sheetz. I got transferred to the busiest store in our district about 2 months ago. For those familiar to Richmond it is located off Broad St near the Rt 64 exit.

The one thing that really bothers me is why all the drunks come here. Every night is bad around 2am, but Friday and Saturday nights it gets really bad. People wait up to 45 minuets for their food, we have 30 orders off the screen and a lobby full of drunks cheering us on. Most of the time the kitchen turns into a mad house with employees running every which way and food flying left and right.

Last Friday night I got off work at 1:30am leaving the store with a lobby full of people and 2 old security guards that don't even know the number to the police station (they asked me the other night for the 2nd time). I decided to drive past Wa-Wa to see what type of business they had going on at this time of night (our biggest competitor only 2-3 blocks away). To my surprise there were a total of 3 people in their store, while we had something like 40-50.

My question to you is why do all the drunks flock to Sheetz? It's not that these customers don't make my bonus a little fatter, but what is the difference. In my opinion I like Sheetz more, but that’s because they pay the bills. I could probably go on for another few pages on little things that make Sheetz better, but I won’t.

As a drunk in college I loved the Sheetz chilli cheese dogs...BEST drunk food ever!

In college drunk = Wawa. Something about being wasted and going to a 24-hour shop where you can get any sort of sandwich you wanted.

It was heaven.

Definitely true. Wawa is sweet.

Wondimu was the man at the CP Wawa. Nobody put a sandwich together like him. The day they transferred him from Sandwich Counter to cashier was the 2nd worst day in CP Wawa history (the first, obviously, is the day they closed it down).

One day, randomly, I came in just to get a Gatorade and I saw Wondimu back behind the sandwich counter! He told me they were short-staffed so, even though I had just eaten a burrito, I decided I HAD to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime chance and ordered a footlong BLT (the Wondimu specialty).

The indigestion was well well well worth it.

Depends on how many 24-hour gas/convenience locations are open in your area, but drunks are drawn to them for the cheap eats.

Yeah I was about to say it's nothing supernatural, it's that it's cheap and it's open late.

Wawa was always my drunk spot in college too. College got 10x better my sophomore year when it opened up in Williamsburg.

I felt sorry for the 7-11 in College Park. That 7-11 could shut down the cash register and give everything away for free and people would still stand in line at the Wawa.

Wawa and Sheetz are great. We have neither in Fairfax County/Loudon County...wish someone would make it happen.

After drinking, greasey food is just amazing. Double cheesers from the dollar menu at McDonalds after beer are such a tasty treat.

Honestly, I've always thought that drunks were a major portion of the Sheetz business model.

Loudoun County actually has one Sheetz I know of. It's in Leesburg. I Hardly ever go there.
