I know it doesnt belong in this area but I thought it would relieve some stress of the fans. Feel free to move it if you want.

Haha that makes me forget about all the frustration of this offseason. I would love for him to be our manager again.

I wished the had mic's on all managers when they argue with the umpires just to here what they are actually arguing about.

The best is how the crowd keeps amping up every time Earl "comes back" to the argument.

I heard or read somewhere that Flanagan tells a follow up story to this incident, since the argument followed a balk call on him. Apparentely, Earl commented about it to him, you know, something like "I had your back" or whatnot, and Flanny was like "uh, Earl...I balked."

When I was a kid I always wondered what he said during these tirades. Its not Shakespeare but it sure is fun!

This is great! I was really young when he was the skipper so I never got to witness this before. This is the fire we need!

Everybody knows that Earl was brilliant at getting a lot out of not much, and he gets credit for that, as he should. But one thing that you had to be there to appreciate was "the other best thing" about him: he absolutely *hated* losing. He couldn't stand it. It was important to him to win every single ballgame. If his team had gone 160-2, then during and after those 2 games he would've been in a terrible mood. The only thing that mattered to him was winning games. That's it. Nothing else. If he saw anything interfering with that, it made him mad as hell, and he'd have a fit every time. It's no accident what he was yelling at the ump. He meant it: he thought that guy was trying to make his team lose. In Earl's World, during every game he was up against 2 sets of enemies: the other team and the umpires. Both the umps and the other team were trying to make his team lose, so he couldn't stand either one of them. He thought that looking at it that way was just a basic and necessary part of his job. He was like one very PO'd mother hen anytime he thought anybody was messing with his birds. It was great.

I remember touching the umpires was always an issue with Earl. I'm sure he got "disciplined" for than once for it. Because of his height, the bill on his cap would often touch the umpire while he was in his face arguing. He had to resort to turning his cap around, which only made it worse because then he could get that much closer to the umpire's face without actually touching him.

I love the part where they are talking about the Hall of Fame. What a great argument. Thanks gurgi.
