First the Kudos.

If I have posted this in the wrong area, Could somebody please move it to right area for me.

No then, this place rocks. I am going on 50YO and have been bleeding orange and black for at least 45 of those years. I follow no other sport nor team. My sports life is the Baltimore Orioles. I have cheered, laughed, screamed and cried for this team for a very long time. I have also never learned as much about baseball and the Orioles in particular, as I have since I found this site last year. If I were Andy McPhail I would be paying somebody 40K a year just to sit at a computer and mine the info I have seen here. My hat is off to all you wonderful people that make this site possible. Please never stop.

My problem is with some of the terminology that I read here. I am sure it is from fantasy baseball that I do not follow. For example...What is a LOOGY??
WHIP3? Is there a list somewhere that I could read so that I can better understand some of the advanced discussions, particularly in the scouting area?

Thanks in advance for the help

The short answer to all of your ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_statistics)is, "GOOGLE it (http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/LOOGY)".

Oh boy, you may have gotten beans all over the place with the assertation that some stats come from "fantasy" baseball. :D

I particularly like the specific example you chose to ask about. 'LOOGY' is an acronym for Lefty One Out GuY. He's that lefty who accumulates 70 appearances for you but only pitches 50 innings. Sometimes, it has a mildly negative connotation. The poster who's referring to a pitcher as a LOOGY usually isn't exactly complementing the pitcher (although you wouldn't call it an insult either).

For example, in a debate over who should close for the O's, one poster may argue that Jamie Walker should be the closer while another may argue that he's, "just a LOOGY".

Thank you kind sir. That is exactly what I was looking for.

I apologize for the beans and will glady lend the use of my Jay Gibbons bandana to clean it up. :D

Oh, no need. I just find it personally amusing. After you learn a few of those stats, perhaps you'll see the inherent value. I know I did. ;)

Sure, now it's "this place is so nice" and "I'm learning so much". Now that he has the stats it'll be "you're a dope, his WHIP is not major league" and "fielding range is so overrated". We've all seen it OsLuvrInKy (your handle is hard to type and Pete Incaviglia did not have a good run here, anyway, sheesh  ) and we're not falling for this. :p
