It's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!:D
Ok in case you've been living in a cave on Mars with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears you know that LOST returns tonight!! There's some clip show on at 8 and then the new episode comes on at 9. (On a side not I'm glad the show is on at 9 this year and not 10 b/c staying up that late during the work week is not fun).
Tonights episode is supposed to pick up right where the finale left off. With Jack making contact with the boat. The early reviews for this episode have been great and they say the momentum and pacing is just as good as the finale from Season 3. If this is the case I think were in for a treat!! Only 14 hours to go!!

Yeah, I'm glad I watched the previous season's finale last night. The little captions they ran at the bottom of the screen were informative and entertaining - and there were a lot of details I'd forgotten about. I feel better prepared to watch tonight. Was disappointed to hear the first hour is a clip show, but oh well.
Also, this was/is my first chance to watch Lost in HD. Nice.

I am in such utter despair over the fact that I got tickets for a concert tonight without even realizing that it conflicted with Lost. I feel like the extra 15-18 hours in between the show airing and me seeing the show are going to be the longest in my life. I am still pondering how to get access to the episode - do I go through ABC's website? Do I buy it off iTunes? Do I have my parents tape it and then drive out to their house?
My brother was trying to console me regarding all this, and insisted that the concert is only a one night thing, and I can watch Lost anytime. I disagree, however. That's like saying "You can take your girlfriend out to dinner anytime, so go ahead and watch college basketball all night on Valentine's Day."

I can't believe I am actually looking forward to this. I was pretty torqued about Season 3 happenings, and how the finale "flashbacks" were set up. However, I'm hoping hoping hoping that now that a confirmed end date is set -- plotlines and stories and progression will be much tighter and will make sense. It could also be that absence (almost 8 months off the air) has made my heart grow fonder. :o I guess we'll see.

I forget how season 3 ended other than the flash-forward. I'll have to tune into the recap show I guess. But yeah, I can't wait.
Definitely excited about tonights return. I didn't get a chance to watch the finale from last year last night, but I'll watch the recap episode to refresh my memory.
I really hope there isn't such a long wait between season 4 and season 5. 8 months was excruciating.

Fair enough. My connection from years past has left her job associated with the show. She is still somewhat in the loop for now but my time looking smart is going to run out so I have to do it now! :)
Lots of dead people tonight. Not actual carnage, but dead people. At least three I can think of. There are better holy s--- moments in the weeks to come, but there is at least one tonight that relates to what I said above and some other decent little bits to get you interested. This is a much more direct opener than the past ones that were sort of out of the blue. As has been said we pick right back up where we left off instead of going off to another part of the island or something.
One more tease, courtesy of famed television writer Robert Frost. I promise this won't give too much away. The I in this would be the subject of the main flash (won't say back or forward) of this episode.
Two groups diverged on hikes through the woods, and "I"
took the one accompanying Locke.
And that has made all the difference.
Does anyone recall the color to use to hide stuff? If so and there is interest I can do more.
Well, since you only have so much time left as an "insider" I can understand wanting to put it to use while you can. I'm sure it will be weird when you have to watch the show without knowing whats going to happen. :D
What you wrote sounds good to me. Just what I needed, more reasons to be excited for the show tonight. Thanks!

In my opinion this mini-season will not disappoint, even the tough critics like Witchy. :) Obviously there are going to be new questions and the new characters, but the tanker folk are pretty cool with some very interesting backgrounds. They are not just a paramilitary operation or something like that. In fact at least one of them has more in common to Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz and Peter Venkman than he does to Chuck Norris.
The flash forwards will strike some as weird, but I am glad they are doing it. The way things are going to end up there just can't be a Gilligan's Island moment 48 episodes from now where they are rescued and go home, series over. What happens after the "rescue" is just as significant as what happens on the island, and this way the show will not drag out forever.

GeorgiaBird – are any of the “dead people” shown tonight the same “dead people” that was shown in the casket in the Season 3 finale? Font color to use for spoilers is “Beige” IIRC.
Here's my speculation to the "I" in the pseudo-Frost poem:
I = Sawyer? I'm guessing him merely because Kate and Jack clearly get off the island. And Locke sooooo badly wants to stay, so I figure Sawyer also stays (thereby screwing up the Sawyer/Kate/Jack/Juliet romantic quadrangle). My 2¢.
Oh, and "beige" is the spoiler color. :D
BTW – I now have “Big Country” stuck in my head due to your sig block. ;)

Long story very short:
Desmond and Charlie went to the underwater Looking Glass station to turn off the signal that was jamming radio frequencies from the island. Charlie briefly made contact with Penny (Desmond's girlfriend), who informed him that the offshore "rescue boat" wasn't actually hers. Charlie was able to convey this info to Desmond, but Mikhail (Eye-Patch Dude) blew up the hatch and Charlie drowned.
The Others came to the Losties' beach to kidnap the pregnant women, but the Losties knew they were coming (thanks to Juliet). Everyone left camp except Sayid, Jin, and Bernard, who stayed behind and blew up some Others. The three of them got captured, but Hurley, Sawyer, and Juliet rescued them.
Jack led everyone else to the radio tower to try to contact the rescue boat. Ben met them there and warned them not to contact the boat, or everyone would be killed. Locke then showed up and said the same thing. But Jack called the boat anyway, and reached someone who said help was on the way. That's pretty much where we left off.

GeorgiaBird – are any of the “dead people” shown tonight the same “dead people” that was shown in the casket in the Season 3 finale?
Silly silly Witch. We don't know who was in that casket! So how can I answer that question? :) But I will say that some of the dead tonight are recent dead. They would be pretty rotted if they were in the casket in the future. Or is that just a tease? Probably not, but who knows. Others whom we might or might not see don't seem to care to stay in caskets. Not that that gives anything away.
Your guess on the flash subject is incorrect. For those who want to know the flash subject is a very emotional and at times unstable Hurley. I will leave it to everyone to guess on forward or back on the flash. The poem will make more sense after viewing, but your logic is sound even if the guess is not.
Finally since I know you are picky... Tonight is a bit of a tease in terms of moving things forward, but with no conclusion. But by next week that changes. Try to judge these eight at the conclusion, and not based on one episode. This is the dead middle of the show. Think of it as the very top of the big hill on a roller coaster. We have a few more people to meet, turns to make, and then, well, to keep the metaphor going hopefully it will not be all down hill.
BTW – I now have “Big Country” stuck in my head due to your sig block. ;)
But I as an old fart will say that you could do a lot worse than that stuck in your head, so you are welcome. :)

I know you were paraphrasing, but the voice on the phone never said anything about "help". Jack asked if they could find them... pinpoint their location, and the phone voice said something along the lines of "yes, hold on, we'll be right there." It seems obvious from the previews, they aren't going to be all that helpful.
Anyway, can't wait.

Yeah I liked that it was whatshisface from Saving Private Ryan. (The gentle translator, more smart than tough. Locks up in fear as the German kills his friend 1 on 1 in the next room. That was pretty brutal Spielberg)
Anyhow, his line in the Lost ad is something like "I can't say that saving you people is our 'primary objective'...". Intriguing as always!

OK – like my obsessive-compulsive self, I took notes during the show(s). LOL
Re: the clip show – interesting that none of the Tailies were mentioned. Almost a whole season was spent on them, but no info to even recap their existence. Likewise, no Michael or Waaaaaaalllllltttt recap. I wonder if that means anything.
As for the show -- nice opening sequence. I was sooooo thinking that was Kate in the Camaro. But, Hurley?? Whoa. And Oceanic 6? I’m assuming that 6 get off the island. Sooooo, Hurley, Jack, Kate and……..?? Not Locke, I'm sure. :D
It took me a minute to recognize Ana’s former partner when he was interrogating Hurley.
I love the look Crazy French chick gave Ben when he asked for a favor. And Danielle punching him. Yeah!!!
When did Jin get a haircut (see: “Where’s Charlie?” scene).
Sawyer trying to be all touchy-feely with Hurley talking about Charlie was funny.
“Still in one piece” – Bernard’s not long for this world. :(
WTF?? Charlie is dead but also here? I soooo confused. Another “Dave” thing going on here? Nice haircut though.
Ben’s awful contrite all of a sudden – asking Jack’s permission to go with Locke. :D
Maybe Rose was in the coffin (S3 finale)? She leaves the island and her cancer comes back??
Hurley’s a ringer playing HORSE. :D
What the hell secret do the Oceanic 6 share? That they left the others behind (I’m guessing)??

I think the omissions from the clip show are more indicative of time constraints. That said, I don't think the tailies are an important cog in the overall story.
I enjoyed the episode a lot. I'm loving the flash forwards, and the multiple "layers" of storylines going on. Past, present, future. So we know Hurley wanted to return to the island and is sick of lying first. Whether he convinced Jack, or whatever, we know Jack eventually comes around to the same line of thinking. He works on Kate. Do we get a progression of the Oceanic 6 changing their minds?
So yeah, Hurley being able to see Jacob, and coming to regret his decision to side with Locke. Desmond NOT going with Locke and Hurley despite knowing the boat people aren't there to save them. Maybe he and Sayid are looking to confront/learn about the boat people?
So I'm conflicted... we've heard hints of time travel concepts being a part of the story down the line (sorry - don't remember where I read about it). I'm hoping if it ends up as a plot point it's cool and not a cheap way of ret-conning. Time travel can be messy and annoying. Of course, so can smoke monsters.
Only 7 eps left.
Great episode. Some answers, more questions of course. Pretty confused about the Charlie thing at the moment.
So great to have Lost back...

The opening was great!! How about that camaro!!! O man what sweet ride!! It was funny seeing it be Hurley and watching him try to run away.
It took me a minute to recognize Ana’s former partner when he was interrogating Hurley.
Why did Hurley say he never met AL (I mean I know she was a jerk so I would try to forget her too), but if memory serves me right I think he had met her. She was in their camp for a while.
I love the look Crazy French chick gave Ben when he asked for a favor. And Danielle punching him. Yeah!!!
Ben is still the best character on that show! He's got the creepiness factor perfected!!!
When did Jin get a haircut (see: “Where’s Charlie?” scene).
I'll chalk that up to the magical powers of the Island
Sawyer trying to be all touchy-feely with Hurley talking about Charlie was funny.I'll agree with that, but I still think he's a much better character when he is being a bad ass!
“Still in one piece” – Bernard’s not long for this world. :(
Out of all the tailies this is the one that survives??? Gimme a break!!
WTF?? Charlie is dead but also here? I soooo confused. Another “Dave” thing going on here? Nice haircut though.
O man that was awesome!! I always liked his character!! I totally didn't expect to see him back, but I should have known better. I mean they've had Boone come back a few times as well. (Let's just hope Niki and Paulo don't ever show up again:rolleyes: ) If Charlie is dead but can still travel around does that mean he will show up a few more times in more episodes? I hope so. Also what does he want Hurley to do??
Ben’s awful contrite all of a sudden – asking Jack’s permission to go with Locke. :D
I think he truly is afraid of the boat and who is on it. He also knows Jack can't stand him and he realizes that Locke is now set on staying on the island and knows with him his chances for escape are much better.
Maybe Rose was in the coffin (S3 finale)? She leaves the island and her cancer comes back??
I'd have to say no to Rose being in the coffin. She's a nice enough person I'm sure people would be at her funeral. If I had to guess I would say Ben maybe
but I have a hard time believing that he would ever leave the Island.
Hurley’s a ringer playing HORSE. :D I think that scene would've been cooler if they were playing putt putt, since they had their golf course on the Island
What the hell secret do the Oceanic 6 share? That they left the others behind (I’m guessing)?? Great question. They obviously did something drastic to get off of the Island. Maybe they had to leave some of the others behind and they never told anyone that they left people behind. The other question is who are the other 3 that make it back. Desmond maybe?
Final thought for me is it seems like with the flash forwards part of the fun will be trying to piece together how forward in the time line they are. The one from season 3 seems like they've been back for a little while now while last nights flash forward seemed to occur soon after they returned.
O yeah one more ? (always so many questions) who was that dude in the crazy house in the suit that came to see Hugo?

I was thinking that also that some of them are still alive.
Does anyone have any idea who the devil that guy is that handed Locke the folder on 'sawyer' he doesn't age remember from ben's flash back.
Richard. Yeah, it is weird that he doesn't (appear) to age at all. I have a feeling that he is somehow tied into the four-toed statue thing that Sayid/Sun/Jin saw when they were on Des' boat for the Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Hurley rescue mission (Season 2 finale?). Plus, Ben directed Richard to lead the Others to "the Temple." Something is up with that, methinks.
It was good to see Uncle Rico again. Probably already been covered but I just finally got caught up on all 3 seasons of lost these past couple of months.
Oh jeez. I forgot about Uncle Rico. I knew I recognized him from somewhere!! :D

I didn't expect to see Walllllltttt or Michael in the show-show, but in the clip show that was on at 8pm.
Why did Hurley say he never met AL (I mean I know she was a jerk so I would try to forget her too), but if memory serves me right I think he had met her. She was in their camp for a while.
I'm thinking either to spare the guy the details of A-L's death (remember, that implicates Michael in cold-blooded murder) and/or part of the deal/pact the Oceanic 6 made with whomever to never discuss anything from their island stay.
Out of all the tailies [Bernard] is the one that survives??? Gimme a break!!
That's part of why I think he's not long for this world. A couple comments last night, and he's the sole Tailie left. Poor Bernard. I like him.
]If Charlie is dead but can still travel around does that mean he will show up a few more times in more episodes? I hope so. Also what does he want Hurley to do??
I like how they did they scene (and ambiguity usually drives me nuts). I've read the "time-travel" theory, so that's the first thing I thought of when Charlie said "I am dead. But, I'm also here" (like he's dead in another timeline, but alive in this one). However, I'm thinking more and more that he's a manifestation of Hurley's guilt (for leaving the other Losties on the island?), much like Dave was a manifestation of his guilt for the balcony collapse accident. However, the other dude in the mental institution saw Charlie too.
I'd have to say no to Rose being in the coffin. She's a nice enough person I'm sure people would be at her funeral. If I had to guess I would say Ben maybe
but I have a hard time believing that he would ever leave the Island.
Yeah, I didn't think about Rose being a sweetheart and people would show for her viewing. Hmmmm. I doubt also that it's Ben.
I think that scene would've been cooler if they were playing putt putt, since they had their golf course on the Island
Good call. :D
Great question. They obviously did something drastic to get off of the Island. Maybe they had to leave some of the others behind and they never told anyone that they left people behind. The other question is who are the other 3 that make it back. Desmond maybe?
I think it's obvious that the Oceanic 6 had to leave some others behind. There were roughly 12-15 people in each of Jack and Locke's groups. We know that Jack and Kate (from Jack's group) and Hurley (from Locke's group) get off the island. Also, it appeared Des was with Jack (which baroquen and I just don't get; Des was the first one to get Charlie's message about the bad boat people).
O yeah one more ? (always so many questions) who was that dude in the crazy house in the suit that came to see Hugo?
baroquen had a great thought. Obviously that guy is not an Oceanic guy. Hurley was fine with the guy when he did believe he was Oceanic. So, this guy is someone connected with the freighter people? Or some other nefarious group we have yet to meet?

With this show you need notes and even then I don't think it's possible to pick up on everything without comparing your notes to another's.
Yeah, WC and I tend to debate the finer details after the episode. I think it's great that Lost actually encourages the viewer to obsess over every tiny detail. (Unlike OH and the Orioles. :002_sbiggrin: )
I havn't heard anything about Walt returning again so I'm not too concerned about that. As for Michael I didn't expect to see him tonight either. Where is he who knows, maybe he is on this boat, got picked up by them while he was leaving and now he's stuck with them. Just my opinion.
I remember when they left the show, someone was giving an interview or something, and mentioned that Michael/Walt wouldn't be in season 3 much at all, but they would be back after. I expect to see them sometime soon. And if it's in a flash-forward... I fully expect that they aren't under the same deal (about lying) that the Oceanic 6 are under. In fact, now that I think about it... Michael might be the key in "going back" to the island, since he left it under different circumstances?
If Charlie is dead but can still travel around does that mean he will show up a few more times in more episodes? I
hope so. Also what does he want Hurley to do??
I like the theory that he's a manifestation of Hurley's guilt. Perhaps he's the one convincing Hurley that "they need to go back" to the island. Then, we see him working on Jack... and as we know from the s3 fast-foward, Jack's convinced and is trying to convince Kate (who doesn't see the need in going back). Either way, interesting stuff.
Great question. They obviously did something drastic to get off of the Island. Maybe they had to leave some of the others behind and they never told anyone that they left people behind. The other question is who are the other 3 that make it back. Desmond maybe?
I think we just don't have enough info to figure out who else gets off the island. We know Juliette has motive. But it really could be anyone... others, crazy french woman, or Losties. Who knows at this point...
Final thought for me is it seems like with the flash forwards part of the fun will be trying to piece together how forward in the time line they are. The one from season 3 seems like they've been back for a little while now while last nights flash forward seemed to occur soon after they returned.
Yep, I think you've got it right. The comment from Jack about "growing a beard", and the fact that it would make little sense for Jack to want to go back to the island, and then next week, not want to go back... I think this FF definitely happened before the s3 finale.
Yeah, definitely looking forward to next week.

Oh, I saw it when it first aired. I just didn't remember the details about the rescue ship.
As for the show, standard first episode stuff... I like the Oceanic 6 reference though. But I don't think that means they were the only 6 to live, I just think they are the only 6 to get rescued meaning the rest of the them are still on the island which is why Jack wants to go back so badly.

That was my thought. Jack and Hurley want to get back to the island badly but Hurley feels people are after him. A constant theme of this show is that you are not supposed to leave the island. This always keep me thinking of the heaven/purgatory/hell theories.
The only thing that threw me was the fact that Naomi got a knife in her back, "Died", was left there for a good while, then somehow crawled away with no one seeing her and was able to leave two blood trails???? She then was able to clime a tree, jump on Kate, anser the phone, lied to her boat people for some reasons, then acted like she was doing it for her sister, then died again.
Call me confused as hell over that whole sequence.

She then was able to clime a tree, jump on Kate, anser the phone, lied to her boat people for some reasons, then acted like she was doing it for her sister, then died again.
Call me confused as hell over that whole sequence.
Yeah that was lame and so was the guy's voice over the radio. Cheesy.

Agreed. (and with Tony's take) The whole thing missed there.
I don't get how Hurley was able to see Jacob in the cabin chair. They've told us how "very special" it made Locke that he was able to hear Jacob, but even he wasn't able to see him. So is Hurley "very, VERY special"?
I also think that more than 6 survive, it's just 6 that get off. There's some obviously unfinished business where Hurley's saying "it wants us back" and "we didn't do the right thing". The Charlie apparition telling Hurley that he knows what he needs to do, they need your help, etc.. Did they cut a deal and leave the others there or something?? They seem guilt ridden, I'm thinking there's some betrayal coming up, or bad positions where ugly choices need to be made. "Leave your friends or die" type thing, where both choices stink. So yes they make it back to reality, but they're carrying a burdensome secret and are plainly unsettled.

A few more thoughts from the episode. I'm guessing that Jacob was the one sitting in the rocking chair in the house? How was the house moving around don't ask me? Who else was in the house with him. When Hurley got to the door he saw someone through the screen door, I don't think it was Jacob. Locke perhaps......
And does anyone know what the voices were saying when he sas the house.
Totally forgot how cool the scene was where Locke was telling Jack he's not going to shoot him and as he's saying that Jack tries to shoot him. He really hates Locke with a passion.

I've seen some screen caps out on the 'Net that show the figure sitting in the chair is not Jacob, but Christian (Jack's father)!!!

I also saw a screen-cap of when "Charlie" was swimming towards Hurley in the interrogation room window/mirror. The hand "Charlie" holds up to the window does not say "Not Penny's boat" but rather "They need you."

So the first spoiler... that was from last night's episode? And it was honestly clear enough to tell? The hair was goofy, but it goofy before too. Not sure what to think about that one.
Second spoiler... cool. Nice touch.
And in either case - the people who find stuff like that have too much time on their hands. (Not like us who instead stay here for who knows how long waiting for Orioles news. :002_sbiggrin: )

Excellent start to the season. This was worlds better than last year's premiere, which was basically just Jack in a fish tank for an hour.
S4 is picking up right where S3 left off, momentum-wise. They're advancing the overall story in nearly every scene. And I like the use of flash-forwards-- the flashbacks were getting stale, so this puts a nice new twist on things. Plus, the flash-forwards will presumably all relate to the island somehow, unlike those pointless flashbacks like how Jack got his tattoos or whatever.
I'm surprised only one person has mentioned this-- Jack tried to shoot Locke in the head. Jack, the ultra-sensitive leader who wants to "save" everyone, tried to take the life of one of his fellow survivors. A bit chilling.
So, it appears the Losties have picked their sides...but I didn't quite catch who was on each side.
Locke's group: Hurley, Claire, Sawyer, Ben
Jack's group: Kate, Juliet, Rose, Bernard
Where did Sayid and Desmond end up? What about Jin and Sun?

Yeah it is not Jacob that Hurley saw in Jocob's house. I rewatched the episode on my DVR this morning. I freeze framed that scene and it is obvious who Hurley saw sitting in the chair. It was Christian Shepard. You can see his white tennis shoes.... Remember those? I watched that scene like 5 times to be sure. I'm also pretty sure that was Locke's eye we saw sense he seemed to show up right after Hurley fell over.
I do not think Christian Shepard is Jacob though.
What was he doing in Jacob's house though. Locke was in there as well... Very wierd. Things are starting to come together..... This was a great episode.

What did Hurley knock over in the convenience store when he first saw Charlie? Was it a stand of glasses/sunglasses (like Jack knocked over in the pharmacy during his failed Oxycotin ‘scrip refill in Season 3 finale)? (Might have answered my own question down in paragraph #3.) ;)
Also – interesting that Locke is taking his group to the Others’ barracks (to become a new incarnation of Others?). Since Ben is going with Locke's group, I wonder how that power struggle will go. :D At least this way, Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn still have scenes together. Yay!!
Ooooo. Something I saw on a LOST blog earlier. There are three instances of the letters H-O in the ep last night. When Hurley was visited in the mental institution by the fake Oceanic guy, there apparently was a sculpture thing behind Hurley that spelled out H-O. Second, Charlie’s “ghost” shows up in the convenience store next to the Ho-Hos. And, third, when playing HORSE, Jack gets H-O before leaving. "H" is the 8th letter of the alphabet and "O" is the 15th. 815. hahahahaaa

You know why this show drives me crazy? Because when I first read this I rolled my eyes and scoffed and said "Oh come ON now... people are just looking for anything!"
Two minutes later I'm seriously considering what the writers intended by it...
This show doesn't create obsessive characters, it reveals them. :002_sbiggrin:

BTW, the man in Jacob's house must have been Christian Shepherd. John Terry (the actor who plays him) was listed as a guest star in the opening credits, so there you go.

Well, where was Fisher Stevens in the show? I saw his name in the opening credits also, but didn't see him (unless I missed him -- maybe he was the "eye" Hurley saw at Jacob's cabin!!! LOL).

I havn't heard anything about Walt returning again so I'm not too concerned about that. As for Michael I didn't expect to see him tonight either. Where is he who knows, maybe he is on this boat, got picked up by them while he was leaving and now he's stuck with them. Just my opinion.
That's my guess too.
Why did Hurley say he never met AL (I mean I know she was a jerk so I would try to forget her too), but if memory serves me right I think he had met her. She was in their camp for a while.
Maybe he didn't talk about her becuase it would bring back bad memories of Libby being murdered, since Michael shot her and AL at the same time.
Out of all the tailies this is the one that survives??? Gimme a break!!
Weren't a number of the Tailies kidnapped by the Others, but made a brief reappearance at the beginning of season 3? Are they still with them?
O man that was awesome!! I always liked his character!! I totally didn't expect to see him back, but I should have known better. I mean they've had Boone come back a few times as well. (Let's just hope Niki and Paulo don't ever show up again:rolleyes: ) If Charlie is dead but can still travel around does that mean he will show up a few more times in more episodes? I hope so. Also what does he want Hurley to do??
My guess is that Charlie's appearance is along the same line as "Dave" was....especially since they showed "Dave" in the clips show.
I'd have to say no to Rose being in the coffin. She's a nice enough person I'm sure people would be at her funeral. If I had to guess I would say Ben maybe but I have a hard time believing that he would ever leave the Island.
Agreed. Plus, based on what we know so far, I think Jack would consider Rose a friend, and he told the funeral director the person in the coffin was neither friend nor family. IIRC, the person in the coffin was supposed to have been from New York? I'll go with Michael......he would certainly have been short on friends after what he pulled, and if Walt found out what he did he may not have wanted to be there either.
O yeah one more ? (always so many questions) who was that dude in the crazy house in the suit that came to see Hugo?
That was soon-to-be Baltimore Chief of Police Cedric Daniels. :D

After the black guy visited Hurley in the mental institution, was I the only one that noticed a trail of what appeared to be black smoke leading out the door? The island monster in human form perhaps? It would certainly explain his creepiness.
As I write this post, there is extremely positive news breaking that the end of the writer’s strike is imminent. My basic understanding is that it’s likely we will get the entire 16 episode season this year based on the strike being resolved in the next few days - great for us and the show!

While I've heard the news about progress in the strike negotiations, this is the first that I've heard the possibility of their being able to finish the season. I was guessing that they'd have lost too much time to fit those last 8 eps in. Here's hoping I'm wrong. If I stumble across any similar articles or speculating, I'll post it....

Hey Witchy why do you think the guy that doesn't age is related to the giant foot? He was one of the 'original inhabitants' correct?
I think Richard is either an original inhabitant, or is Captain Richard Alpert who crashed the Black Rock onto the island (circa 1800's). ;)
Weren't a number of the Tailies kidnapped by the Others, but made a brief reappearance at the beginning of season 3? Are they still with them?
I think the only Tailie (from the Ana-Lucia, Libby, Eko, et al) Tailies who we've seen is Cindy, the Oceanic flight attendant. Oh and the two (blond?) kids.....the little girl (or boy?) who Ana-Lucia administered CPR/artificial respiration to after the plane crash. Cindy was def shown with the Others last season; she had a conversation with Locke about how everyone was excited to meet him because he was special. I'm pretty sure we saw the kids too with Cindy (maybe when the Others were paraded by Kate and Sawyer in their cages).

I've seen this theory/speculation elsewhere also. Here's a screen cap (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-1364-355.html) of his departure. Speculation is that dark shadow on the door is Smokey. I think it's just a shadow. LOL

Wow. Lots to catch up on. Spoilers colored out below, teasers and uninformed speculation is not.
Great news on the writers stike if it comes to be. I think they really really want to do 16, if only just because #8 was not meant to be the gone for a year cliffhanger, so anything is possible. But they best hurry.
As for other things those who think they saw who they think they saw in the cabin are correct. (I tried to sort of spoil that one with the can't stay in a coffin comment.) Whether it means anything or not is the real debate. I wouldn't think too much about it, but maybe file it away.
The conventional wisdom about the Oceanic 6 and what they are not saying about what they know and the reasons why and whether or not others are alive is a pretty good guess. I don't think is is possible to guess who the other "survivors" are, but you will see them in the weeks to come. Or if you really must know now think Sayid, Jin and Sun. One spoiler for everyone (more a tease)... Six may not exactly be an entirely accurate number.
For my money this week is better than last week. We meet the shippies (I teased one before with a 1980s film reference), get an idea of who they are and what they might want on the island. I know, I know. More new characters... but I promise this is much better than last year's moron couple and more interesting than the tailies. There are some really great scenes in this one, including one that will remind you of a season 2 (I think it was 2) great scene (turnaround is fair play) and a cool scene that will provide a new view of the original crash sure to make heads spin. Make sure you turn it on in time and watch the opening sequence... it was originally considered as the season opener. We also get to see Ben taking target practice and a pre-island meetup for one of the new characters with what appears to be the second most beloved four-legged character on the show. Plenty more questions than answers of course, but really fun stuff.
This being Lost, fair to say that none of the given reasons why the ship folk are there are completely wrong, or completely correct. Ben might just be right when he says they are there for unfriendly reasons. Locke might just be right when he says they could destroy things on the island. And Jack could be right when he says they will rescue the survivors. I don't think it is a spoiler to say that, this being Lost, it is a little bit of everything depending on where you stand.
Oh, and
Maybe ... Sayid are looking to confront/learn about the boat people?
Hmmm. As I said turnaround is fair play, right?

Something just occurred to me while reading elsewhere a blurb about knife-in-the-back-Naomi. :D How did she get that knife out of her back? I don’t know how physically feasible it is for her to remove it herself. I mean, yeah, she could prob reach her arm around there to wrap her hand on the hilt of the knife. But, I don’t think she’d be able to get the right leverage to pull the knife out without breaking her arm. (I’m assuming, of course, that the knife she held to Kate’s throat was the knife Locke buried in her back since it was not protruding from her back when Naomi was fiddling around with the sat phone.)
It's probably nothing, but it just struck me as odd.
