Apparently for Kwame (good riddance), Critt and two picks.
So, do we get our rings now or do we have to actually win in the playoffs first? Just a formality now!!!:D

The Lakers have acquired Pau Gasol in a three-player trade with the Grizzlies, SI.com has confirmed.
The deal, which was first reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, sends Gasol to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010.
Maybe I'm missing something, but why does Memphis make this trade?

Man, the Lakers got hosed in this deal. Brown was the number one pick! Gasol was a couple of picks AFTER him.
Kwame may never produce anything on the court, but he has been traded now twice for two good players.

Javaris Crittenton isn't a horrible pickup, he's a young guard with plenty of upside. Two first round picks in 2008 and 2010 don't hurt, either.
Guess they'd rather take their chances with a young team with Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Javaris Crittenton, and build on their draft picks rather than hold onto expensive older guys like Gasol.

That makes sense, and I think is the reason, but they couldn't do better? Didn't they have talks with Chicago last year for more?

Money, money, money.
What I wonder if this sets up some kind of trade for Kidd(involvong Odom)?
I doubt it though.

BTerp,
NBA is all about getting expiring contracts. Since Kwame makes 9MM this year, that's 9MM that Memphis frees up this year after his contract ends.
SG, the Lakers need an SF much much more than they need Kidd at this point. Fisher has been fine as the starting PG with Farmar giving more than quality minutes off the bench.
Odom should be dealt for an SF better than Walton. He has stunk this year (Walton) and there is really no place for Odom to play once Bynumite comes back.

Unless Bynum now goes for Kidd...:p
I didn't realize Brown's deal was expiring. They just said it on PTI, so it definitely makes more sense now.

I'm 99.9999999% sure that's a joke, but I just gotta make sure....:)

Also, anyone else smell a possible Lakers/Celtics finals?
It's a long shot but boy would that do wonders for the NBAs status as a league if that amazing rivalry that had slowly died down was rekindled.

I don't understand why you deal Odom. Now Odom can play his normal postion and that's SF, you now have Gasol at PF and Bynum at C. Thats a powerful frontline if you as me. Gasol can play SF, and Odom PF it dosen't matter. Then can shoot outside and pass well enough that it doesn't matter. I think this deal put them as the favorite in the Western Conference.

I want to see the Suns in the finals.

Odom can obviously play his natural position once Bynum comes back, so a starting lineup of Fish, Kobe(what a game tonight!), Odom, Gasol, and Bynum. Bench of Farmar, Ariza, Walton, Turiaf, Mihm, Vlad, and your boy Sasha who has played very well of late. Very big, athletic, and skilled frontline. The only thing I don't like about that starting lineup is the lack of outside shooting in the frontcourt. However, the bench has some very good outside shooters.
That's a great team, and one that should contend for the title this year, and in the years to come. I'm very excited about this trade, not only do the Lakers gain an all star caliber player at a position of need, but they dump stone hands in the process!:D I do like Javaris though, he is probably going to be a very good player.
I would consider moving Lamar is I was the Lakers GM, but not for Kidd, would need to be for a SF who can shoot from outside better. Artest is a guy I'd like them to get, but the salaries don't match, and I don't think I'd mess with the team chemistry anymore in season.

Not sure it's that much of a long shot, probably the best two teams on paper now. Will obviously be harder for the Lakers due to how much better the West is than the East.

I still think the Pistons can take the Celtics. We'll see...

Yeah, they have a good shot, I would say the Celtics and Pistons both have about a 40-50% chance, while the rest of the East is about 10%, at best.

Going to the Wiz/Lakers game tomorrow -- will wear Arenas 1st and 3rd and Kobe 2nd and 4th, and will obviously cheer my lungs out for Gasol if he plays.

Nice I'm gonna be there too. I'm wearing Butler the whole way through.

Did you even bother switching back to the Wiz jersey in the second half?:D
Total domination! Great first half by Kobe, sure that was fun to watch, and it sounded like the fans were enjoying it.
To all Wiz fans: :p

Lol, I can't lie boss. I threw my Kobe jersey on this morning and didn't look back. Ended up not bringing the Arenas. Wow, the Lakers showed today that they are for real. Bring on the playoffs!

Fisher/ Farmar, Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum
That could be really sick come playoff time. Two primary scorers and two secondary. And this lineup really allows Odom do everything he does well.

Turn the ball over and miss shots?:D
I kid, I kid. I see what you mean but I still think that Odom just needs more confidence in his game.

Hes coming back from injury...it takes time to be able to go full bore. Odom is a machine, with confidence in this offense he could easily average a triple double.
