For anyone dying to watch baseball turn on MASN to catch the Caribbean World Series.
The game on now is the one to watch.
There are two Dominican teams in this year's series (because the Puerto Rican League did not operate this winter), and they are fierce rivals in the order of Yankees-Red Sox. That's who's playing right now.
They're both 2-0 in the 6-game tournament so far, and Licey (the blue team) is trying to avenge their loss in the Dominican finals last week.
The Aguilas club is the one with ex-Orioles Miguel Tejada & Luis Polonia.
Wish I had MASN!

I'm at work right now & I don't have cable
My best bet is to pop into a Dominican bar on the way home and watch on TV while I sip a Presidente. Out of here in 27 minutes!

If you're going to do a play by play it is probably best to start a game thread so this one doesn't clog up the main forum.
I just tuned in, is Tejada DHing? I thought I saw someone else manning short.

Very kind of you, but MLB.com has it on GameDay, so I'm covered.
Appreciate your offer though!
Opps, sorry.
You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later

Tejada agreed to DH and let Tony Pena, Jr play SS.
Not only is Pena a fine defensive player, his Dad Tony, Sr. was a great player & manager for the Aguilas, one of the most revered players in their history.

I know, my dad got me a Tony, Sr. autographed ball when he met him in the Dominican ;)
I didn't know Tejada agreed to DH though. That's interesting.

For anyone who is interested in the game and does not have MASN, the score is 0-0 heading to the bottom of the second. So far both teams have been able to get runners into scoring position, but not able to capitalize.
Miguel Tejeda is 1-1 with a 2B.
I think it was Furcal was on first when Tejeda hit his double and would have scored, but a fan pick the ball up as it went down in the corner resulting in a ground rule double and forcing Furcal to stay at third.

I believe Tejada has exclusively been a DH since suiting up during the playoffs.
He said something prior to the Caribbean Series about not being sure if he'd play if he couldn't play short, but took denied ever saying at that he wouldn't go.
He praised Pena's play after meeting with manager (and ex-big league SS Felix Fermin) and said something to the effect of they all agreed Pena ought to start since Tejada hadn't played defense in a game since the end of the major league season. They left open the possibilty Miggi could play some short during the series.
BTW- How does the little (5'7"-5'8") lefty pitcher Fabio Castro look? He intrigues me because he's been so tough to hit (43 2/3 IP & only 27 hits) in his brief major league experience.

The games is currently in the top of the 9th the Aguilas are down 5-0 with the bases loaded and nobody out. Jesus Colome came into close for Licey, but failed to do so and Licey just made a pitching change.

Licey clearly has the edge right now. They're under pressure to win because it's their 100th anniversary season.
The Aguilas are under a different pressure as the "home" team. Although there are two Dominican clubs in the tourney, Licey is based in the capital of Santo Domingo while the games are taking place in Santiago. That home field advantage is somewhat negligible though, as Licey fans are everywhere in the DR as they're the oldest & arguably most successful team.
Mexico is 0-3, and I can't see Venezuela winning three straight in hostile territory.

If Aguilas wins that one and the two Dominican teams tie for first, would there be a single game to decide the championship or would it be like those stupid soccer round robins where the bracket winner is decided based on total goals or margin of victory or something?

I read somewhere that they would have a one-game playoff.
Talk about intense!

Licey blew a 3-run lead in the 9th on Wednesday and lost to Mexico in extra innings. Ronnie Belliard made an error and Carlos Marmol couldn't slam the door.
That gave the Aguilas a chance to tie for the series lead heading into tomorrow's finale, but they are currently losing 5-1 to Venezuela in the 7th inning.
Incidentally, Bartolo Colon started the game for the Aguilas. He lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 2 and didn't walk a batter. He threw 57 pitches, 44 of them strikes.

Licey appears to be in good shape to win the Caribbean Series tonight.
They built an early 2-0 lead, and after the Aguilas tied it up on Rafael Furcal's 2-run homer, Licey scored four times in the 4th inning to go on top 6-2. Game's now in the 5th inning.

Sounds like they got it made..
Well, they did.
With an 8-2 victory, the Tigres del Licey claimed their 10th Caribbean Series title. Not a bad way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the franchise.
Ramon Ortiz hurled five scoreless innings out of the pen to hold the Aguilas down.
