Seeing all of the Celebrity Jeopardy quotes in this thread
http://www.forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49428
made me wonder what everyone's favorite sketch series would be.
Personally, there are alot of ways I could go but my Top 5 series in no particular order would be..... drumroll......
1. Celebrity Jeopardy
2. Church Lady
3. Motivational Speaker
4. VH1 Behind the Music- Blue Oyster Cult would probably be in my Top 3 All-Time Sketches
5. Deep Thoughts
I am probably forgetting one or two so I retain the right to change my list at any point in time. :D

Good thread.
One sketch series that I always thought was funny was Will Ferrell and Ana Gastayer as the husband/wife singing team. Their "interpretations" of modern hits was hilarious.
And while I wouldn't call it a top series, "Nick Burns: Your Company's Computer Guy" was pretty much the only worthwhile thing Jimmy Fallon did.

There are far too many great ones to pick a funniest, IMO.
Here's a short list of some of my favorites:
Blue Oyster Cult Behind the Music
Anything with the Blues Brothers
Samaurai Delicatessen
Matt Foley
Mr. Tarkanian (Bad Boss)
Jeopardy
Nat X
Wayne's World
James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub
One of my favorites that never aired but is on the Will Ferrell DVD is the Gus Chiggins Old Prospecter skit. That was hysterical.

I'm sure I'll think of about a thousand more and kick myself for forgetting them, a few others I liked:
Mr. Robinson's neighborhood
the shark that ate people (not sure how else to describe that)
The Continental
BTW, my favorite all time individual skits are probably Will Ferrell rapping as Robert Goulet, and Christopher Walken interviewing a centaur for a doctor's position.

While not series, two of my all-time favorite SNL sketches:
1) Stand Up & Win (http://video.aol.com/video-detail/snl-92-jerry-seinfeld-stand-up-and-win/1130985810): Seinfeld hosts a game show for stand up comedians all doing Seinfeld impersonations.
2) Space - the Infinite Frontier (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1098316453585764384): Will Ferrell does Harry Caray hosting a science talk show.
If I think of more, I'll edit/reply again. Good stuff.

Eddie Murphy as the original 5th Beatle, Clarence. Suing them for ripping him off. Back then, we were known as the Clarences...

In addition to the obvious ones, I'd like to add the one with Edward James Olmos where everyone over-pronounces everything because they think that's what Hispanic people do.

The Bill Brasky sketches, Blue Oyster Cult's "Behind the Music", The Dysfunctional Family Dinner Argument (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/97/97kdinner.phtml) (Will Ferrell goes off on the family...You do not talk to me like that!! I work too hard to deal with this stuff!! I work too hard!! I'm a Division Manager in charge of 49 people!! I drive a Dodge Stratus!!!), Matt Foley, Chris Farley's uncomfortable interview of Paul McCartney, and it pains me to say it, but when Derek Jeter played Alfonso Soriano's wife in the Baseball Wives skit I almost soiled myself.

LOL! This is my favorite and I actually do drive a Dodge Stratus. You better believe that when I'm asked what kind of car I drive my response is "I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS, IT'S A FINE AUTOMOBILE"

LOL!!! From now on you have to follow that up with, "...and people are scared of me!"
When I travel on business occassionally National, Enterprise, or whoever will give me a Stratus. My wife will ask, "So, what kind of car did they give you?" I'll scream, "I'm driving a Dodge Stratus! I have 49 people under me! People are scared of me! You can't talk to me like that!"

That Carvey-as-McLaughlin is fantastic.

I love that Hercules skit (http://www.jibjab.com/view/215359) too.
The dubbed voices... the stilted readings. Good stuff. :D
King Laetes: So, Hercules, once again, we meet. By the gods! Look at you! You really have let yourself go!
Hercules: I have not exercised much since the last Olympics. And I've learned, to my sorrow, that if you stop exercising, the muscle turns to fat.

Dan Ackroyd as E. Buzz Miller (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=23764999) was always a favorite. Ackroyd was sooo good in those early seasons of SNL.
Buck Henry as Uncle Roy (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/78/78euncleroy.phtml). I doubt these sketches would make it on the air today.
The Franken & Davis Show (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/78/78ofranken.phtml) sketches were really freaking great.
And I've always had a soft spot for Old Glory Robot Insurance. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1435090770451224720) Robots are everywhere, and they eat old peoples' medicine for fuel.
