Does a 5 word "rant" even count as a rant? I would think by definition alone this "rant" was not even a rant, by anyone definition of a rant. :D

Well, I hate to spoil this delightful sense of mystery, but if you prefer longer rants here:

First off, I'm talking about the Hangout. Both of my "rants" so far have been Hangout-related. Maybe after I get more confident in my ranting ability I will expand my medium, but for now I'll stick to the basics.

What I hate is that some people have a pet subject (some have several) that, when it comes up, will turn them into close-minded idiots. They'll be unwilling to recognize objective information that contradicts their point of view and will generally just come across as unreasonable. As soon as you see their name heading a post in a particular topic you know exactly what you're going to read and you don't care to read it. I don't want to name names, but I will anyway, for the sake of an example, because it's a poster who I otherwise like and respect: a certain someone when it comes to Kevin Millar. No offense to the poster, but if you can tell who I'm talking about just by that description, it shows why I put him in this category.

There's another category though, that goes beyond the irritating. These are the people who know how to push buttons. They dismiss comments, they ignore comments that factually contradict their arguments, they "correct that for you" compulsively (you know, the thing with changing a quote and then bolding it), they pop up for no reason other than to shoot down an idea, which they usually do with liberal use of

Passive-aggressive warfare has been perfected on the Internet and it's something I hate so much (in case that wasn't clear :)). It's really easy to do, but also easy to avoid, if you're not an arrogant _______ who gets his/her kicks out of infuriating other people/posters.

Hopefully that provides some clarification.

Now that, Senior ***** Cat, is a rant! Nice job!

Not to be "pompous" but one idea is to use the ignore feature. All of the peeps you reference can be placed on "ignore" and you no longer have to read their comments. That may not solve the problem but it is a possibility.

Thanks for the explanation of your rant.
