I like what I've seen of Quiroz so far. Very impresed with his discussion of how Olson was opning himself up so much on his delivery and that was why his pitches were coming in high in his outing the other day. A catcher who can be a 2nd pitching coach on the field can be an asset. Just hope he can hit enough to make it worth keeping him on the roster.

Gibbons even being considered for a job after his lies and disappointments is a joke to me. If there ever was such a thing as a necessary eating of salary, Jay Gibbons would be the best possible example of that. To think, he was our player rep and was outspokenly against steroids and such. You stated that "he was our best hitter so far this spring". We're in our 3rd spring training game. Pitchers aren't even throwing all their pitches.

"And here's where Adam Jones would normally bat, but instead we have a pinch-hitter. Yes, a pinch-hitter. We've been going through the pinch-hitters. So here's the pinch-hitter. And that pinch-hitter is.....Ben Davis!"
I don't think Moore is the best hitter on the team, but it's not implausible that he'll outhit Mora and/or Millar this year (not to mention whoever ends up starting at 2B and SS).
He should be in the running for a spot in the starting lineup, but that's not going to happen unless more trades are made.

Keefer on to pitch for the O's in the 7th. Elijah Dukes starts the inning off with a line drive base hit up the middle, his 2nd hit of the game. New 3rd basemen Decaster up for the Nats.

but it's not implausible that he'll outhit Mora and/or Millar this year (not to mention whoever ends up starting at 2B and SS).
agree-and if he does, he should start someplace.

Wow, Nats have 38 non roster players, for a total of 76 players, in camp. According to the Hangout spring training update page, we have 17 non-roster players.
Cota gets a single to left. 1st and 2nd, one out. 1st baseman Matt Whitney is up. This is now officially a AA game.

Whitney flies fairly deep to CF, Jones tracks it down. 2 outs. They haven't mentioned yet whether the runner on 2nd tagged and went to 3rd.
William Burgoia now at the plate.

Signs of spring training baseball:
-- the batter Burgoia wears #64
-- Garrett Olson was getting his running in in LF while the inning was in progress
Burgoia hits a fly ball to right-center....a bit of miscommunication between Jones and Roberson...fortunately no collision, and Roberson makes the catch to end the inning. 4-0 O's going to the 8th.

I wonder if Manfra minds that Joe Angel calls him "Big Boy."

Ray King on to pitch for Nats in 8th.
Sun writer Dan Connolly visits in the booth.
Adam Jones batting...one of the few starters left in the game.
Cabrera threw 27 pitches, 19 for strikes.
Jones hits a line drive, robbed of a base hit on a nice play by the first baseman.

Omir Santos hits for Wieters.
Now Connolly and Angel are talking about the Nats, and the National League.

Connolly mentions that Tiexiera married a girl from Atlanta so he might have as much motivation to stay in Atl as he does to come "home" to Baltimore. Calls him the Holy Grail of Severna Park.
Eider Torres ground out to 3rd.
4-0 going to bottom of 8th.
Manfra claimed that Teixeira said "Baltimore is a great place to live, but I don't know about playing there."
I think he's talking about this article (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-sp.connolly28feb28,0,227944.column), but that's not what he said.
Mark Teixeira still loves Baltimore.
"It's my home. I was born and raised there," Teixeira, the Atlanta Braves' first baseman, said recently.
"I am always going to support Mount St. Joseph High School and am going to support my local church there. And my parents live there. It's a great place to live," said Teixeira, likely the biggest jewel of the 2008-09 free-agent class. "But, other than that, at the end of the season, we'll sit down and talk about those things."

Rauch on to pitch for Washington. He's 6'11", he'd fit in with our roster.
Roberson grounds out. Looksl like he, Jones, and Torres are the only starters that get to play a full game today.
Fahey grounds out.

His 2nd pitch nails Maxwell (who was batting for Austin Kearns) in the middle of the back.

Bloop hit by the mighty Humberto Cota (http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cotahu01.shtml) scores Smart and the shutout is gone.

2nd pitch after Kranitz talks to McCrory, he induces a broken bat grounder to 3rd that starts a 5-3 double play.
Game Over.
Orioles win 4-1!
Now for the three hour bus ride back to Lauderdale.

As discouraging as the pitching was in the exhibition opener, it was very impressive today. Scoreless outings by D-Cab, Liz, Olson, and Penn.

I was at the game, and I took quite a few pictures. Let me know if you want me to post the link for them. I would post them on here, but I'm not too sure how.
I also got Adam Jones, Luis Hernandez and Mr. Trembley to sign my ticket. I even chatted with Adam between innings after he and Roberson bumped into each other making a catch to end the inning.
