So yeah, I didn't see the game but my buddy called me from Verizon to say the Caps just bounced Boston 10-2. Ovi recorded the hat trick, Bradley and Laich both scored twice. Backstrom had 3 assists and a tally. Heck, even Brasher got in on the action(the other Caps goal was scored by Cooke). They're still three points back of Carolina in the division but it'd sure be nice if they could go on a run here and make the playoffs. At any rate....GO CAPS!!!!!

They do have a game in hand on the Canes so that's a bonus. They've been a bit inconsistent lately, but they have won 3 of 4. The season is winding down here so they need to keep the tempo up. It looks like Ovechkin is out of his scoring slump which is huge. They need this guy playing at his best for this push to the playoffs.

A game like this can go a long way to getting a team back on track. The Caps have been slumping for a couple of weeks. Catch Carolina! (I hate Carolina! Long live the Whale!)

That was an amazing game. I think the Caps have a great shot at the division and with Huet picked up at the deadline they have a good chance to get pretty far in the playoffs.

It's amazing how important Ovechkin is to this team. The slump they were in happened as the big O was in his scoring drought. He appears to be out of the drought and the past few games we've been getting production from the other guys. I'm confident then can win the Division and get to the playoffs.

That game was incredible. The Caps were amazing. Some of the 10 goals were just absolutely fantastic goals. They were unstoppable last night.

Hopefully Huet is ok. That was the only downside of last night, and I am convinced the only way the Caps make the playoffs is with him in goal. I can't help but wonder if last night had something to do with who was in goal. The team has looked a lot more confident in his two starts.

Really fun to watch regardless. It will be interesting to see what happens on Saturday with the rematch.

I've never seen the Caps play as well as they did in the 1st period. It was truly dominant. They had a TON of scoring chances and they were finally finishing them. Even when Chara tried to light a fire under his team by fighting Brashear, the Caps came back and scored 4 more goals. Very impressive stuff last night. Let's hope Huet bounces back quickly.

(I sound like a 12 year old girl I know...but Ovechkin is so dreamy).

I'm with you Mike, never been like this with the Caps. Glad to see some excitement with this team.

The Caps were a pretty damn good team in 97 when they went on the Stanley Cup run, but I think this team has more upside. It will be interesting to see if we can resign Huet and bring in another solid Dman. Also what will a healthy Clark, Nylander, and Pothier add to the team? Plus Semin, Green, Laich, Eric Fehr, etc will be more experienced.

Scary that I might even have a Caps vs Pens party at my house on Sunday afternoon...that has not been done since...the 90s.

We need a win tonight before we think about Pittsburgh on Sunday. Buffalo is ahead of us in Points, and we need to beat them.

Back2Back matinees...@ Boston and Home vs Pens

Boston will have the revenge factor after the 10-2 dominating win for the Caps this past Monday. And tomorrow's game against the Pens will be the biggest game so far this year.

Damn did anyone else just watch the start of the game? Two fights in the first 15 seconds of the game!!! It was great!!!

Verrrrrrrrry tough loss. The Caps were in control the whole way, but just fell apart towards the end. Brashear's triple minor really killed them. Then the officials helped out the B's a bit more with a few questionable penalties.

They need to regroup quickly because the Pens game is tomorrow!

Poor ol' Backstrom. He probably ended their season when he scored on Huet, his own goalie.

Anyone else watching the Ovechcam? It may be the dumbest idea of all time. They show him even when he's on the bench.

The Hurricanes have come out firing, up 3-0 in Chicago.

I guess the Caps are going to have to start thinking 8th seed rather than SE Division champs.

Huge game against the Bruins today. We really need a win to come within 2 points of 8th and 3 points of the Canes. Boston is going to playing hard looking for revenge after we massacred them.

Playoffs definitely not out of the question for the Caps. 2 out of the last 6 games that the Caps play are against the Canes. Unfortunately, we don't play Pttsburgh or Philadelphia, the two teams ahead of us for 8th place. Because of that, getting in through the division seems more likely.

Umm Boston already got their revenge last week when the beat the Caps 2-1. I posted about that earlier in this thread in that game there were two fights in the first 15 seconds of that game.

I also disagree with your statement about the only way to the playoffs is through the division title. If they win their game today they will only be 2 points back of the Flyers with 9 games to play (hardly an insurmountable lead) with the games left against Carolina we still have a shot at the title as well. It's going to be close, I hope they can pull it out. If they do make they playoffs then I gurantee that the big O wins the MVP!!

Yeah, I forgot about that last Boston game.

I never said that the only way to the playoffs is through the devision. I just said that IMO it's the more likely way. We control our own destiny so to speak more through the devision because we play Carolina twice. To make it through the conference, we have to hope that we don't match wins with Philly and Buffalo. But heck, any way they make it is fine with me!

There's not going to be enough sand in the hourglass to catch the Hurricanes I'm afraid.

The better chance is through the eighth seed. Philly is falling back to the pack.

The 8th seed is probably easier, but don't count out the division title just yet. We are 5 points back with a game in hand which if we could win would put us 3 back. We also have 2 more games against the Canes which is huge!

3 point lead for the Canes with eight to go.

Yeah, a good night for the Canes. Atlanta didn't put up much of a fight and the Hawks rode the emotion from Tony Esposito night and are whipping the Caps.

Gonna be 5 back with 7 to play. The Caps would have to win both the head-to-head games plus get some help at this point.

It's going to be a shame when the Hurricanes get the 3 seed and then lose to the Sens in 4 in the 1st round. The Caps will get the 8th seed and take out the Devils.

The Canes are only five points back from 2nd in the east, so don't lock them into 3rd just yet.

And the bottom seeds are very fluid. The Rangers are in 6th right now, and it could be either them, the Sens or even the Bruins.

I'd rather play the Sens than the Rangers. I think we matchup better with the Sens (who the Canes beat 5-1 this past Sunday). Of couse, I'd rather play the Bruins than any of them (they'll be the worst team in the playoffs), but they have been sinking for a month now.

The Caps are only 5 pts from taking 1st place with 2 games against the Canes, which should decide things. So don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I think the Caps match up well with every team except Montreal. Since Thanksgiving the Caps have the 3rd best record (30-17-7) in the East, only behind NJ (33-14-5) and Pit (33-14-5). The Canes have the 8th best record (28-23-2)

It's seven now. The Caps really should focus on the eighth seed. By the time the Canes and Caps meet Tuesday in Raleigh, it probably won't even matter very much in terms of the SE.

How do you just focus on the 8th seed? They need to focus on winning every game. There's still a chance the Caps win the division. And after last night's comeback win, they're only 5 pts out. Those 2 games between the Caps and Canes are going to be crucial.

Well, let's see how the Caps respond tonight. It seems everytime they get close they lay an egg (like they did in Boston, Pittsburgh and Chicago).

The Hurricanes have been riding high behind their Conn Smyth winning goalie and the emerging superstar and team leader Eric Staal, who is blossoming before our eyes down here with captain Rod Brind'Amour out.

The Caps are certainly good enough to pull out a win but, frankly, they appear to come unglued just when it matters most. Maybe Alex can pull another single-handed win out of his rear.

That's probably gonna be what it takes.

I think you really underestimate the Caps. The team is not all about Ovechkin. Watch out for Backstrom, Semin, and Green.
