I can't understand why they keep trotting Leicester out there but wouldn't give Hayden Penn a chance.Leicester's not remotely a Major League pitcher. :(

It has nothing to do with who they value more. Trembley made it clear that they view Penn as a starter and they want him in Sarasota, pitching longer into games, getting ready for the season. If Loewen continues to have shoulder soreness or another pitcher has problems, they want Penn to be ready to come up and take over a role in the rotation. Leicester is pretty much seen only as a potential long reliever. And, at this point, he's probably behind Albers and Burress (and possibly Olson, unless he earns the 5th rotation spot) in that competition.

Burres isn't much better than Leicester.
I understand what you are saying, and I'm the last guy who wants to see them send young pitchers out there to get shelled the way they did lat year. But it appears to me that the Orioles are making decisions purely based on who has options left and who either is under contract or who is out of options. And the Veteran Presence always has the edge, even if he isn't much of a presence.
To me, they should have let Hayden Penn pitch his way off the team, then send him down. Instead, they decided that Burres and Leicester will get shots and Penn won't.Penn never had a chance, that's obvious. He was never on the radar screen.Leicester has no more of a chance to pitch effectively up here than we do, and I doubt if Burres does, either. A junkball pitcher w/poor control is like an open gasoline can sitting next to a fire.

I haven't really been keeping up with the minor league updates, but I was wondering if anyone knew if Reimold was getting to play with the big club because he is doing well in minor league camp or it it more of us needing another player?

He's not starting, so what if he bats one time. Not much to get excited about there.

I'm kinda suprised theres no MLB audio for this game considering its the BoSox. Anyone know if there is anyway to follow the game other than the painfully slow mlb.com boxscore?

While I generally agree with you, I think you shouldn't forget the fact that Penn is coming off surgery and didn't pitch much last year. If he had had a whole - successful - season last year I think that would have changed things. I, for one, want to see him prove that he hasn't lost anything, and I don't think you can do that during spring training.

I may be wrong, but I feel like this line-up is one of the better ones we've faced this year. We've faced Boston before, but they didn't have many starters in the game. Ortiz and Manny weren't even playing.
This could get interesting.

It'd be nice if Mora could keep tearing it up into the regular season and we could convince him to drop his NTC and ship him out by the trade deadline...but I guess that could only happen in a perfect world

sbauer, are those stats from this year or last? I remember Roch raving about him last year during ST, but I didnt remember him taking that many losses...I thought he looked better than that, though I was never on his band wagon, but I'll plead guilty to being pumped about John Parrish, whatever happened to him? Is he still with Seattle?

That's his career spring numbers. Last year, his era was below 0.70. He didn't have a decision. I'm not sure what he's doing this year.
Parrish is with the Blue Jays (non-roster) and he's actually pitching pretty well. I don't have his numbers off hand. I'll try to get them. From what I'd read they were impressed with a few of his outings.

Ironically, that shoe dropped yesterday. He gave up 2 ER, 2BB, and 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His ERA jumped to 4.50.

Leicester started today because Loewen was canceled due to soreness. He isn't being considered as a starter. He is a filler guy who might see time in long relief, no more no less. If for some reason Loewen gets shelved for a longer period, Penn would get the shot long before Leicester. They sent down Penn so he could start a game every 5 days and get a bunch of innings under his belt rather than an inning or two in relief every third day. They explained it rather clearly in the Sun. I'm not sure why stuff like this has to be such a big deal to you every time.

Man that stinks for Reimold. However there is a ton of rain headed that way and the O's were rallying so it was a "perfect storm" of sorts. The O's will not be allowed to beat the Red Sox...
