Today I made it to Bowie for the first time this year. I will attempt to give a game review of the first game of the double header. I got tired and just watched the second game.

Both games were very close but we lost the both of them 3-2 and 9-6. Last game much closer than the score seems as Erie scored six runs in the top of tenth and the BaySox almost came back in the bottom of the tenth. Last out came with bases loaded and they turned a double play.

I got to see a rare treat as Finan came into to pitch the last few outs of the top of the tenth. Finan is the SS! It probally cost us the game bring him into the game to save the pen because he gave up a couple more hits and runs that made the rally just that much harder.

okay to the first game.

Hernandez started and went 4.2 innings. Allowing five hits one run while walking two and getting three strike outs. His fastball was in the eightes maybe hitting 90-91 occasionally. Maybe the Bowie gun is slow because nobody really seemed to blow the ball in there today. Hernandez didnt look real sharp today but got the job done.

Ben Davis has a very accurate arm but he didnt hit well and didnt run out a dribbler to end the first inning.

Kennard made a great running catch in the top of the second as Hernandez had an easy inning.

Finan had a hard smath to center just missing a homerun to end the second.

Ben Davis is huge! Hernandez got lazy flyballs for the first two outs of the third and ended the inning getting a popup to SS.

Top of the fourth and Kennard Jones made a terrific catch with two on. It was a smash to RCenter that was moving away from him. He caught it on the run and over the shoulder. Great play.

Top 5th and Hernandez in the mid to high eighties. 90 if he is lucky. He got Tucker on a beautiful changeup. Caught looking and Tucker was dropping F bombs and arguing with the ump. You can hear everything.

Great play by Reimold on a high fly to right field that was wind driven towards the stands. Caught it on the run.

Then Hernandez seemed to tire as Guzman smashed on up the middle for a single. Guzman started dancing on firstbase and it may have upset Hernandez as he promply got called for a bauk. Rhymes then had a hard smashed double driving in Guzman. Heard our dugout yelling "Merry Fing Christmas." Hernandez followed with a walk and that was his night.

Big Kam Mickolio came into the game. He is huge. He was hitting 92-94. He wasnt real sharp as he walked the first guy he faced. With two on he dodged a big inning because Tucker made a great play on a smash to second that he layed out for and made a back handed flip to SS from his stomach for the inning ending out.

Tucker leads off the bottom half of the fifth with a smash over third for a double. After moving to third on a ball driven to the warning track by Finan Tucker scores on a double by Rodriguez. Reimold has a lazy fly ball to end our scoring.

Kam started the sixth with a no doubt about it homerun to Rameriz. Lf power alley that went out in a hurry. Pierre singles over 1st. Kirkland bunts his man over and Mickolio looks awkward on the play and almost over threw first.

Worth hits a smash to center that Kennard made another good play coming in on. Kennard looked great all day. Kam got Guzman swinging to end it.

Rommie Lewis pitched the 7th. Getting Scram to K on a curve to end the inning.

Erie had Brett Jensen pitching the bottom of the inning. He has a side arm looking delivery. Finan promply drove a HR to right field that just got out. After getting an out Blake doubles to RCenter. Reimold hits a soft shot to SS but was hustling hard on the play and just got beat at first. Reimold can move for a big guy.

Lonsberry pitches the 8th. Hitting around 91. A single to start the inning. After an out he walks the Pierre. Then the play of the night! Kirkland hits a line drive to center that Kennard Jones made a great catch on running in on. He saw the runner was too far off second and threw a dart to second beating the runner for a bang bang DP. Sweet!

The ninth wasnt so sweet. Lonsberry wild pitches what would be the winning run in.

Bowie three up three down to a tough Danny Zell. Zell looks tough to hit as he is a sidearmer.

gurgi, impressive log!

You're right to point out that Kennard Jones covers a lot of ground in CF. He must have tracked down at least 3-4 line drives between both games today that could have fallen for hits. With him it seems to just be a matter of whether or not he will hit. Regardless, he's fun to watch - not to mention he's the hometown, PG county native.

The Baysox outfield is FULL of athleticism. Lou Montanez, Jones, and Reimold all have major league attributes when it comes to defense. Montanez and Jones both have + range. What Reimold may or may not lack in range, he makes up for with an absolute cannon for an arm. Not to mention OF Michael Rodriguez (former 2001 2nd round pick by Houston) who is showing off a very lively bat so far. Still a little early for me to judge his defense being as it is the first week of the season but he's a spark plug atop the lineup as leadoff man.

Don't be discouraged by the Baysox 0-3 record so far. The team is playing well overall, just falling short at certain points in the game. In the long run, I think this squad has a very good chance to be exciting to watch, night in and night out.

Finan was at 1st base in the 3 games I saw......... I guess you just made a mistake! No problem though!
It is still good to have baseball back in Bowie.

I was confused as they had a long talk on the mound. Then Finan came in to pitch and they announced that Blake Davis was now playing SS. I couldnt make heads or tales of what exactly happened.

Gotta give Finan some credit there. In talking with manager Brad Komminsk after game two, he felt Finan was being pinched in the strike zone during the two walks he gave up. Finan did well given the circumstances; like I said, you have to give him credit for stepping up.

Not to mention Finan was throwing straight up heat, being that he is a first baseman, comparatively speaking!

Finan moved from first to pitcher.

Carlos Rojas moved from shortstop to first.

Blake Davis entered the game at shortstop.

By the end of the game the strike zone was actually as big as Kam Mickolio.

It's amazing to think that in one 25 hour stretch, the Baysox and Seawolves played 30 innings of baseball over 3 different games. And now they have to right back at it this afternoon.

And I have to agree with you Mike...that was some pretty good heat that Finan was throwing out there.

Last year in Frederick, Tommy thompson said numerous times Kennard is a major league centerfielder. Enjoy him in Bowie, he'll make a number of phenomenal plays throughout the year I'm sure.

Yes, we have already seen him make some great plays.

I personally was wondering if it was fast, because it clocked Spoone at 96 on one pitch Friday night, to my surprise.

I was listening to the Erie's broadcast and heard the announcer say that Hernandez had hit 94mph at least 3 times and was sitting at 91-93mph. I'm sure at time times he was at 88 -91 but I'm sure Hernandez was also varying his speeds on his fastball. So I don't know what gun the announcer was using. I know that the pitching staff(starters) chart each pitch and they use a stalker gun for their readings. So I can guarantee you that they aren't using the scoreboard.

It's not unusual for Spoone to touch 95-96 on occasion.
