Trachsel has to go deep into this game in order to save the bullpen for Loewen in the night cap. If both can go 6+ innings, the rainout and double header won't have a major impact.
Mackus

If either go 6 full innings I'll be surprised. Both going 6 would be terrific.
Most of the bullpen is pretty well rested. Bierd should be available to go 2+ innings following the starter in one of these games.

I'd feel better about the pen if Albers had not gone 2 innings on Tuesday. Not sure how that will affect his availability tonight.

Well, Jones, Mora and Markakis all saw 5 pitches or more. And, after getting two called strikes to start his AB, can't blame Millar for not seeing more pitches. 21 pitches for Millwood. Key to this game is forcing Millwood to throw a lot of pitches early and get to the bullpen.

If it's tied or close in the late innings, do you bring BR in to close it out?
Either that or you put LH in for defense if you want to save Brian for a pinch hitting appearance. No way you leave him out there late in a tight game.
BTW Moore gets an easy grounder hit right at him. He made the play but he waited for it to come to him instead of charging at all. Didn't really look smooth or comfortable.
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it's smart to start Moore at 2B for the flyball pitcher, and Brian for the groundball pitcher.

Agh we should have gotten those guys in. It's nice that Millwood is averaging 20 pitches per inning though. Texas doesn't have a decent pen.
That's one thing the offense has been very good at this year. Even if they don't get a big inning, they seem to make the pitcher work. No runs were on the board, but that inning will prove useful later on.

I get your point, but I think it would be better served if you reserved judgment until something legitimate happens. This just sounds like contempt prior to investigation.
I just commented that he didn't look comfortable making a routine play. I said maybe it was just nerves... although I don't see any reason to believe an average at best third baseman is just going to miraculously turn into a passable second baseman.

Yeah may have result Millwood getting out of the game an inning or two earlier than he would have. Is this an actor playing Steve Traxchel btw because it sure seems that way with the pace he's working.

That's a great question, and I don't know the answer for sure, but my initial thought is it's at least in part to Trembley's philosophy of playing team baseball. That is not 100% true. Sometimes it is a lot easier for the SS to throw the ball to second. Even the 3b if they are ranging to their left to get the ball.
You rarely see the player safe at second on an out to end the inning. Players usually know if they have a chance to get the out or not.

Ok, there could be a rare situation where going to second is a lot easier than going to first for a 3B. However, in that case it was too close for comfort and Melvin wasn't at some odd angle so he should have gone to first for the sure out.

I doubt it. A lot of 3b go to second for a force play to end the inning. If they field the ball going towards second, it is a lot easier to throw to 2nd than all the way across the field. It doesn't need to be an odd angle to throw to second.

It's always somewhat easier because it's a shorter throw. However you have to be sure you're going to be able to get the runner. The more sure play is at first in almost every case because the batter doesn't move to first as fast as a runner who was leading off first gets to second. If it's close, you have to go to first unless there's some really pressing reason not to.

Funny how much BRob got bashed for the play last year where Tejada didn't bother to cover, even though the runner would have been out very easily if Tejada had done his job. Anyway the play by Mora today was lazy. The runner was at second before the ball got there. I am talking about SS and 3B throwing to second. Not the 2B, even though usually it is a good play if they are running towards the bag to field the ball.

He should win several games? Come on Buck, is that really impressive? Shouldn't all starters win several games?

It might not be a good sign that Bierd just threw a wild pitch warming up in the pen.

Ok, well I didn't bash him, so I don't really see what your point is here other than another attempt to squeeze BRob into a discussion.
I am talking about SS and 3B throwing to second. Not the 2B, even though usually it is a good play if they are running towards the bag to field the ball.
The SS should be heads up enough to be there, so with that situation, even though I can't remember it, I would side with BRob throwing it there.
Whoops. Melvin just did it, and it wasn't close and he didn't move off his position.
Now are you telling me that he should have thown it to first there?

Trachsel at 91 pitches through 6. Does DT send him out there for the 7th?

Man, you can tell the Os are off to a good start when the only thing we can argue about is a play where they ended up getting the guy out anyhow!
I don't think it is that so much as the fact that there was a potential "lazy" issue that involved one of the handful of the people that BB can't seem to resist criticizing whenever humanly possible. Add in to that the fact that she could work in some completely tangential defense of Roberts that criticized the team and/or board members and it is was really a foregone conclusion that this post would happen.
Mention Jay Payton and watch what happens, I dare ya.... ;)
