Didn't seem like Jones or Scott played that one particularly well. That looked like a ball that should've been caught.

I was just about to say that. Three singles, one run, and the #5 hitter grounds into an inning-ending double play. Albers and McGowan were separated at birth.

Anyway, What were they saying about Aubrey not being able to get around on a heater so they gave him Right-Center.
I thought that Aubrey and Millar were dead red (is that the expression) Heater hitters??
(Speaking of which has anyone noticed that on the roadtrip someone said sometime that we are not hitting the fastball in general as a team. I guess teams change. from the mid nineties til recently, we were always a fastball team and not a curveball or finesse team, right? I guess things change. BoSox are beginning to steal again)

I'm not opposed to replacing Crowley. He's been coaching an unsuccessful offense for a lot of years and maybe someone else could find a way to make lemonade out of the lemons he hasn't been able to help. However, I don't think people should expect instant miracles from a new hitting coach, nor should they put so much of the blame on him for our players' failures. By the time hitters get to the major leagues, they've already pretty well established their batting eye and how patient they are. Only the really coachable ones are helped all that much by the hitting coach. Crowley may be a part of the problem, but he shouldn't be scapegoated for the whole thing just because it's convenient.

I'm looking at his whole body of work though. It's not about getting a magician to turn around this year's team. It's about a long term hitting coach that will be effective for us once we have all the young pieces in place. I firmly believe that Crowley is not that guy.

Gotta wonder if Markakis put the pressure on McGowan. Sure, there were 2 outs, so one may not think it had any impact but I for one think it may have rattled him a little bit to see Markakis go from 1st to 3rd. I love DT's base stealing approach so far this year. It has been so much fun to watch.

Probably having come out of the pen so far this year up to this point they just want to be careful with his pitch count. He hasn't been throwing a lot of pitches since I believe mid-spring training.

We've been asking for one of our starters to go deep into a game and give the bullpen a rest.
Well Albers was doing just that, and instead of letting him work they pull him.
I guess they didn't want him to do to good because then they'd have to consider making him a starter.

We've been asking for one of our starters to go deep into a game and give the bullpen a rest.
Well Albers was doing just that, and instead of letting him work they pull him.
I guess they didn't want him to do to good because then they'd have to consider making him a starter.
OR they don't want to ruin his confidence after a nice start. Let him build off this, it's his first game and he pitched 5 innings with only 1 run.

That was a rotten throw, but 90% of the time Millar scoops that one. (I'm not blaming Millar, just saying that's an error he usually saves the infielder from with his scooping ability).

Albers is part of our bullpen. 5 innings on 83 pitches is good enough for Albers. Dont forget that Johnson is usually a starter so he should go for 2-3 innings.

Nah, DT said he doesn't make arbitrary pitch-count decisions, he goes by whether they seem tired to him...
Plus, isn't 5 what they were hoping for?
For SP's they probably don't, however Albers is making a "spot-start". He did say he'd be more than pleased with 5 innings. That's what he got. He could have gotten more probably but I can't blame him for wanting to be a little careful due to Albers acclimation with the bullpen this year up to this point.
Maybe if he gets a next start they'll let him go a little further. ;)
Johnson looked much improved (I know it's only 1 inning.) Gotta love the ground balls tonight ladies & gents, this is fun to watch.

Jones has the speed, he has to practice his stealing sometime to get better at it and Zaun hasn't exactly been throwing well so it seemed like a pretty good chance he'd make it. Besides, Hernandez is very unlikely to get an XBH to drive him home.

I posted this in yesterday's game thread, and think it's prudent here too.
It's always frustrating when a base stealer gets caught stealing, but it's a no risk no reward type of situation with base running. I have enjoyed DT's approach to base stealing so far, which has led to the O's stealing 9 bases (including BRob's earlier today) in the young season. That's in the upper 1/3rd of the league and is 4 behind the league leading team, the Blue Jays.
The O's have gotten caught stealing 4 times (including Mora today), the Blue Jays 5. This is the just how the game works. I prefer taking the risks in order to advance our base runners.

I see what you're saying, but respectfully disagree. I don't think you make a base stealing decision based on who you want to lead off the next inning. If anything it gives Luis a higher chance to succeed given that with a runner on second the pitcher may be a little more ruffled than with him on 1st. During the pitcher-change, my TV blew out 200 pixels from the glare off Buck's hair...

Mora has made several good plays tonight.
Three pitchers, three outs. Way to go Johnson, Walker, and Bradford.
Let's get a guy on base so Jones can avenge his 4k game with a 4 hit game.

He is quite adorable, but what I found even more entertaining was how much fun Trembley was having with all his infielders out on the mound. It's good to see them all smiling, even the ones who aren't so good looking. :)
I dont love Brian because of his looks....but because of his heart:)
And you are right It was nice seeing all of them happy!!
GO Os!!!:)

Yeah, but what's Millar smiling about... the bum.
(Ever since he knocked in a run early with a crappy non-XB-hit, I decided I'm gonna keep calling him a bum until he does something super-human... )

So you're hoping that calling Millar a bum works like booing Huff (which BTW people need to get back to doing because he's really cooled off since they stopped)?
