Another must win! Not much else to say that hasn't been already said, but I will say that getting the lead early would be nice. If the Caps can get up on them early and take the crowd out of it a bit that would be a huge plus.

Yeah I have a gut feeling this one gets decided early. Either the Caps get the crowd out of the game early and then hold on, or Philly takes an early lead and momentum steamrolls. We shall see, though.

1988, Game 6...Caps won in a blow out, 7-2 in Philly.

I wouldn't mind a repeat. OV needs at least 2

I am so excited about this game. I'll probably end up missing the first period due to the whole time difference thing. Here's to the Caps winning, and painting the town Red tomorrow night for game 7.

This town is going to be rocking for this game! I'd love to see Philadelphia close it out tonight, but this has been such a good series, part of me wants to see them go at it again in game 7.

I think it'll come down to Biron -- if he plays up to his ability, Philly wins. If he gets rattled early and lets in a soft goal or two, the Caps take it back to Washington, and I do not have confidence that the Flyers could win a game 7 there.

Not having Knuble for the game tonight (and possibly Tuesday) will hurt Philly -- he does a lot of the dirty work and finds the net quite a bit, too.

In other news, I am amazed that Boston has taken Montreal to the brink of elimination.

Knuble is out for both games with partial tear of his hamstring. I'm not sure if you saw the play, but he started to lay out to block a shot then changed his mind and as he was going down his leg buckled awkwardly.

I would argue Biron has played beyond his ability, but I agree with you that it might just come down to him. He has been great, and if he can do that it will suck away a lot of the Caps momentum.
Not sure what I think about Boston/Montreal. I don't think Montreal is as good as their seed but Boston really was falling apart towards the end of the regular season. I didn't expect Montreal to get through to the finals but I will admit I didn't have Boston taking them out.

I think this could be one of those games where the Caps click on everything. Philly has capitalized on our mental mistakes that have resulted from playoff inexperience. However the Caps seem to have really grown up fast in the past 2 games. Hopefully that means tonight will mean less turnovers in our zone and better center ice coverage. And NO dumb penalties...or bad calls by the refs.

You're spot on about the Flyers capitalizing (no pun intended) on the Caps mistakes, and until the last two games, it hasn't worked the other way.

It'll be interesting to see how the matchups go this game, since the Flyers ought to be able to get Timonen / Coburn out there against Alex the Great more consistently.

The bad calls thing is funny - in Philly we're convinced we're the ones getting hosed! ;) To be fair, I think the refs have been pretty leniant on both sides -- I'm not sure if that's a good thing. We don't want the refs deciding the outcome, but you can't let it descend into a slugfest, either. The new NHL is about speed and skill, and you can't have that if the best players are getting hit with cheap shots.

C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS!!! :)

It'll be a good game. Ovy, Greenie, Flash, and Semin will all play well.

I see the Caps winning 5-3 and game 7 to Washington.

Richards scores for Philly. 1-0 Flyers.

Tough break there, if the initial shot goes on goal Huet probably just deflects it and the puck goes to the corner.

Brashear and Green look good so far for the Caps. Richards and Hartnell looking good for Philly.

Big stops by both goalies, Biron on Ovechkin and Huet on Prospal.

I'ma little surprised by that Caps power play. Why have Ovechkin set up low / in the corner? I thought his "happy place" was top of the left circle? Still, if the Flyers insist on letting the puck roll around in front of Biron, I'm sure the Caps will find something to do with it....

End of 1st period, Flyers up 1-0 on a power play goal by Richards.

Each team has had it's chances, each team has had two power plays.

2nd period starting now...here we go!

Intense game.

Flyers return the favor to Ovechkin a few minutes later.

Will we see the gloves come off at some point tonight?

Caps outworked the Flyers in every aspect of the game for the better part of that period. We're not getting as many second chances in front of Huet anymore, and I figure part of that is not having Knuble and part is just the Caps working harder.

I still think Jeff Carter is due to break out soon.

Sheesh, Coburn hits the post! He'll regret that, I'm sure....

Wow. These kids are growing up. No way we would have been around for the end earlier in the series after getting down 2-0. And great defense even compared to game 5 clogging things up once they had a lead.
Flyers aren't done but they have a mountain to climb. And just remember how many under 25s the Caps have out there. This could get fun in the next few years.

So I know everyone wants to talk about the Ovechkin goals and they were great. That one-timer was a laser beam. Even after seeing the replay I could barely see the puck at all, but how about that PK in the 3rd Period after getting the lead. Killing off the 4-3 and then 5 on 3 just huge!!!

GeorgiaBird
04-22-2008, 07:56 AM
Correct the PK was amazing. Another reminder how nice it is to have Steckel back. I have been a pessimist throughout so what do I know but I did not feel to good seeing all that time go up on the board.

To me Ovechkin was showing up. He was just blanketed and couldn't get his shot. Regardless of what he says now I think he was frustrated, and was trying too hard to be a decoy in hopes of getting his teammates free. Sounds great on paper but he is just too good to be a decoy.

You could see him awake after that hit Richards laid on him in the 2nd. And soon as he scored he seemed to find that extra gear and open space that he always had during the regular season.

Ok everybody be honest, did anybody think we could come back after being down 2-0?
