So for my Capitals fan friends here who (rightly) complained that the refs made more than a couple calls in favor of the Flyers, the scales were balanced last night.

Not sure if you saw the game, but with under two minutes to go Mike Richards got a kneeing penalty for laying out Kovalev with his shoulder.

It was maybe a little tough to see at first, although the commentators immediately said they thought it was a bogus call, but the replays made it absolutly clear -- Richards took Kovalev out with a clean hit, but the Flyers get the penalty, Montreal ties it up, and goes on to win in OT.

In the words of Earl J. Hickey -- "Karma!"

Funny. Karma was exactly what I was thinking when watching it.

Tough series to figure. Maybe I am going to have to get my head out of my --- and say Montreal is better than I thought, but I am still not convinced.

It was a good game (until the end!) and both teams took turns dominating -- quite a bit like the Caps series.

After one game, I think both the Flyers and the Caps are better than Montreal, although the experts disagree. A lot is riding on their goalie, and he's only 20 -- that awful young for the kind of pressure he must be feeling. I mean, goalie for Les Habs? Jeez, only an entire nation is watching every move you make...

Is it wrong that I felt so happy after that game?

GO HABS!

Well, the zebras helped the Flyers again today. I don't think I have ever seen anyone get away with hitting the goalie's glove and knocking the puck out then scoring. No whistle for the catch? No penalty for goaltender interference? They called that on the Caps in the first round if they breathed on the goalie.

Since when is knocking the puck away from the goalie interference? He didn't have it in his glove. Umberger had just as much right to that puck as Price did.

Game 1 was disappointing. Even if Kovalev didn't hit the puck out of the air it was going in for the 2nd goal. Then that penalty sucked at the end, but in all fairness in full speed the way Kovalev went down it looked like he was tripped up. So I can't really blame the Refs. What I will tell Carter is GET A NEW BATCH OF STICKS. 4 sticks he's broken in 2 games.

As far as Karma, I wouldn't call it that. Since the 2nd goal in game 7 wasn't interference. Plus both teams got help in the whole series from the officiating. Just like will happen in this series, it's just the way it goes. Also you can't blame a whole series on 1 goal, or for that matter 1 game. You get 7 chances to win 4, that's a lot of hockey.

1-1 home ice advantage to Flyers! I haven't seen anything special from the Habs, hopefully that keeps up. The Flyers don't understand the word quit. They just keep bouncing back like they did all year. Let's Go Flyers!

That wasn't interference. The puck was still in the air when Umberger hit it.

Nice to see the Flyers come back -- getting a split in Monteal is huge, and like in the first series against the Caps, they were awful close to winning both.

Funny how quiet the NHL board got after the Caps lost.

Anyway Flyers up 3-1 again. We've had the lead for 158 minutes and 30 seconds in the series. To the Canadiens big fat 0 minutes.

I really hate Danny Briere. He can't play D and he cherry picks, plus he'll use his stick to get revenge instead of laying a hit. He's basically what a hockey player should NOT want to be like.

Not sure what you're getting at here.

Nobody would expect Briere to be a force defensively, but that only puts him in the same category as most of the other offensive stars in the league. Not to mention he's 5'10", 179lbs (well, listed at that size. More like 5'8" 165lbs.)

And even at that size, he sticks his nose in it all the time. Last night he was going into the corners and fighting around the net, and that's not unusual. I'll grant you that he tries to get calls quite a bit and that verges on flopping, but again, he's almost always the smallest guy out there, so I'm not surprised at all that he gets laid out three or four times a game.

You know your hockey, Ty, but I think you're way off on Briere. He plays with a lot of heart and comes up biggest in the biggest games. That's exactly what a hockey player should want to be like.

I find it odd that he was a -22 despite having 72 pts. And he has 14 pts in the playoffs, but is only a +1. Basically that tells me that he's not very good defensively. Sure he gets pts, but most of that is on the powerplay....when he cherry picks around the net (which is fine since that's his predetermiend job). When the game is 5 on 5, his line tends to give up more goals than they score...which lowers his +/- substantially. It's been pretty publicized about his defensive letdowns throughout the season.

As for his "stickwork"...he has a reputation for spearing and slashing his opponents instead of laying a hit. He's so small that he uses his stick as a weapon instead of using his body. Take a look at youtube to find the video of him spearing Ovechkin last year. It was pathetic.

A real hockey player is Mike Richards...or Ovie.

Well, we can certainly agree that Ovechkin and Richards have more complete games than Briere.

But as a Flyers fan, I'm awful happy lil' Danny is out there cherry-pickin'.
