Not only that, but his walk/strikeout ratio is much better this year at the AA level. In fact, he's striking out less frequently this year than at anytime in his professional career, AFAIK.

I think that's the best thing. We know he can take a walk and mash the ball and hit homers and extra basehits. His biggest obstacle for his development on offense is cutting down on strikeouts where it wont be a huge issue if he gets to the majors.

Any guess when he'll be up here? I'm guessing he'll be a September callup.

I'd be a little bit surprised if he made it to Baltimore this year. In my opinion he ought to strive to make it to Norfolk for the second half and if he raked there then perhaps a cup of coffee in September but I'd say likely Norfolk by the end of the year and a shot at making the club in '09

He needs to be up here sometime this season, it's not like he is really young, he is 24. I mean he is 1 month older than Nick Markakis.

As long as he's hitting well, once a regular O goes down with an injury or leaves via trade, take that opportunity to bring him up. I don't see much downside in doing that. He's proven he's healthy, he had a .930 OPS at Bowie last year, and he ain't getting younger. Give him enough ML at bats to see what he's got.

September call up...fine but there could be a lot of movement at the deadline. Depending on what happens to Millar, Huff, Payton and others could play a big what on where he plays and when. Along of course with how he is performing. We could see Huff at 1b, and Reimold and Scott sharing the outfield and DH spot in July. Lets hope Hernandez wakes up and gets hot so he can be traded. We can then shift Ben Davis to the Majors and Wieters to Bowie. Come September give Wieters a call up as well.

AM could really do a lot with this team come July if we can get the right players to get hot. Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm in no hurry to bring him up. He needs more experience at high levels of the minors. He only played 50 games at Bowie last year, and there are indications that he's not ready to deal with major league breaking stuff. What I'd like to do is leave him in Bowie for another 6-8 weeks, and assuming he has his OPS well over .800 at that point, then move him to Norfolk. In the meantime, if we need a 4th outfielder at some point, I'd rather use Terrero or Redman.

What is it AM always says, or was it Stockstill? The player will dictate when he is ready. I would think if Reimold stays hot, or relatively hot, over Frobby's next six to eight weeks, it's time to come up. I don't think AAA time is all that necessary these days.

The man's always injured, right? So try to get him to the next level before he's injured again...

Even the 0-for-4 tonight had its good point. No strikeouts.

The problem I have with that logic is that at some point, if he doesn't get an opportunity soon, he'll likely never get an opportunity. If he doesn't prove himself this year, they need to make plans at the major league level without him being part of the plan. He'll most likely be a 25 year old afterthought / backup plan to start next season.

With Luke Scott in the fold, we can afford to be as patient as necessary with Reimold. When he has proved he belongs in the majors, bring him up. But there's no reason to short-circuit his minor league experience just to give him an opportunity. When he's ready, he's ready.

I have to emphatically disagree with this.

We've seen guys like Larry Bigbie, Jack Cust, Rick Ankiel, Josh Hamilton and Luke Scott (to name a few) get extended playing time/opportunity after age 25 - even second and third chances.

Nothing should stop an adequate defensive OFer with a strong likelihood of putting up above league average numbers offensively.

Just let him play and prove his past injury issues are behind him. If he continues to produce offensively at Bowie, it's only a matter of time this season before NR gets his major league at-bats.

Ankiel and Hamilton were exceptional cases. Bigbie was with the talentless O's. Cust had to wait year after year to get a shot. And Scott was thought so highly of that Houston wouldn't let him play every day despite him putting up big numbers per plate appearances. Once you reach 25 and haven't proven anything, teams generally don't make plans with you - you become a second thought - a backup plan.

Maybe Reimold or Scott can learn first base...
