The US release of Ridley Scott and Tony Scott re-make of Michael Crichton's Andromeda Strain will be a 2-part, 2-hours on A&E starting Monday 5/26 at 9PM. The 2nd part will air on Tuesday 5/27.

Robert Wise did the first version of this back in 1971 and that one was a classic. So here's hoping that it's just not some re-hash of the original as I'm looking forward to this version that stars Benjamin Bratt, Rick Shroeder and Andre Braugher.

A U.S. satellite crash-lands near a small town in Utah, unleashing a deadly plague that kills virtually everyone except two survivors, who may provide clues to immunizing the population. As the military attempts to quarantine the area, a team of highly specialized scientists is assembled to find a cure and stop the spread of the alien pathogen, code-named Andromeda.

After the first night, a few thoughts.

I think they are doing a decent job keeping with the book while updating it as well. Although the same general fear that runs through the plot is the same as in the late-1960s when the book was written, the source is different.

Feels like a higher-budget Scifi Channel movie. Some of the effects are a little underdone, but overall has some realism.

It even is teaching us things, like how you can show frontal nudity on basic cable as long as the "frontal" is covered with foam/suds. I'm sure FX is watching this closely.

Really good so far, and they ended the first night at a good spot (especially for those who don't know how this ends).

Already ready for tomorrow night.
