Wow. I've never got to do this before.
We have Huff at 3rd and Payton in the 2 hole.

Not especially close. Close to the line, in front of the warning track. Maybe 280-290 feet?

Just looked it up:
The Red Sox have a OPS of .646 with the bases loaded: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/batting?team=bos&season=2008&seasonType=2&split=94&cat=avg&order=true&type=reg
We have a still somewhat-low .670: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/batting?team=bal&season=2008&seasonType=2&split=94&cat=avg&order=true&type=reg
Its not why we're not the Red Sox.

Thorne said Roberts slipped trying to steal on the pitchout, then when he was in a rundown, Bynum got caught in a rundown and knew he could get back to third because of Giambi's weak arm. This enabled Roberts to get to second safely, and he was given a stolen base thanks to boom boom Bynum.

BRob went to steal 2nd, but there was a pitchout. He tripped half-way to second and got in a rundown. Realizing what was going on, Bynum baited a throw as soon as Giambi got the ball. Giambi took the bait and threw to 3rd. Bynum was safe and BRob was able to advance to 2nd.
Bynum is really to credit for BRob's steal.

The YES announcers said that Brob went down on purpose. They said it was a set play, which they attributed to Billy Martin. I think they're right. Brob didn't go down awkwardly, he casually slid to a stop and popped up.

If that is true, Roch has to be on top of that for a little story. I have never heard of that play. Seems pretty risky if it's the play from the very get go. Maybe it's the play only when you're caught by a pitchout?

Is the purpose of that set play to get the runner on third home?
I love the way Bynum plays. Maybe training him into an infield position (like Mora moving to third a few years ago) shd be an off-season project (or in the minors this season).

Yes, they were saying it was designed to force Giambi to make a good throw. Bynum was barely half-way to home when Giambi was staring at him, so I guess he thought his best bet was retreating to third.
Meanwhile, Molina throws out Bynum.

The Skanks have got to be shaking their heads in disgust. Burres leaves and now Johnson's the reliever. That's a pretty good 1-2 punch right in their guts.

I'm surprised we don't see Joba the Hutt. Apparently they want to stretch him out so I wouldn't be surprised to see him after Rivera if we don't score here...

I don't know who else is watching the YES broadcast, but it seems like every game there is someone sitting very close to the booth and you can hear someone banging their plate with silverwear.
It's so distracting. I'm thinking about muting the tv and going to radio.

What is the on-field delay?
The pitch hit the knob of Giambi's bat, and Ramon held on for strike three.
Girardi came out to argue to no avail. He was tossed.
It was a heads up play by Ramon to point out to the ump that the ball hit the knob.

How in the hell is Trembley supposed to do something about the offense?
We need to acquire/develop talented offensive players, not blame the manager.

Nah, saving him for when we get the lead... which we won't...
Too bad about the high throw from LF. A good throw would've made for a great play at the plate.
Oh, well... the MFY's sure look ecstatic about beating the O's... with good reason... we'll get 'em next time, you just watch and see...

Grrrrrr. I hate payton. I said CANO hit it to right or center and we will go to extras unless we get you out. Why dont you listen? Payton is just in the way. I really don't like him. I didn't even like him when he hit the grand slam.Tonight isn't his fault but it gives me another excuse, his stupid middle of the road arm, with 0 accuracy. The first thing I said when he hit the grand slam, I was happy, but I said "YES, it will increase his trade value." That is how you know you don't like a player and he is in the way. I would rather trade him with a couple others to get someone and bring Reimold or someone else up.

Did Girardi stay out there long enough to throw Jhonson off his game ? Why the he!! did the upm allow that ?

You have to wonder if Scott or Reimold make that throw. When the ball was hit there my very first thought was UH-OH Payton will not make this throw.

Yeah they were all in the same spot. Even abreu yelled when the one pitch was a ball, then the exact same pitch was a strike. Ramon and abreu were giving the umpire hell.

It was just your basic I'm-getting-tossed fit. Nothing special about it.
What's the ump supposed to do, call the cops and get him locked up?
Compared to Earl or Billy Martin, it was just a little flash in the pan. NBFD.
