:cussing: LOL :D

I totally understand why people will have likely 50 different variations of the top four. It's hard to know how it will play out... but I truly believe we're a more informed group than ever before. :)

1> Pedro Alvarez - Best overall Hitter
2> Justin Smoak - Safer pick than Hosmer, although might be a bit less talented
3> Eric Hosmer - High risk, high reward
4>Tim Beckham - 4 tools now, according to Greg.

Mine was going to be identical, but I'd rather take the gamble on the older kid with a problem with his swing than the kid that shrunk 2 inches this week.

Many will disagree with me, but I just have a feeling on some guys, and my top 5 prospects and top 5 for the O's I want to have is different.

1. Smoak-I think he will be the best power hitter out of this draft. Maybe out of many drafts. Plus we need him for DH or First whether we get Tex or not. You can't have too many guys like this in your farm system. Plus, he won't be there for long, and we don't have anyone like him. We have a bunch of DH/1st guys, but all of them aren't like this. Meaning we need to get rid of them. A millar/huff DH/1 combo to Tex/Smoak DH/1 combo is a pretty good deal :). Plus (again), his name is freakin Smoak, How can you not take a power hitter with the last name of smoak, come on!

2. Alvarez-Obviously best overall hitter by scouts take

3. Gordon Beckham-Tim won't be there, and he is in high school. For the O's we need a SS, but we can't wait 4 years for Tim. If we still need a Shortstop then we are done. I think Gordon is a monster and he is in player of the year contention. I haven't heard much on his defense, is it good. I have seen him make some great plays, but I haven't heard much scouting on it.

4. Matusz-His strikeout to walk rate is ridiculous. I think he will be a number 2-3 starter, quickly. Probably Ace for the O's :D.

Hosmer-I do like him, but not as much as these guys
T. Beckham-I guess if he is there we would take him, it can't hurt :D

Sorry man, if it makes you feel better its both Beckhams and Posey as 4A 4B and 4C for me, but MLB frowns on you taking 3 players in one draft slot.

1 - Vote for Pedro - IMO, still head and shoulders above the competition
2 - Tim Beckham
3 - Justin Smoak
4 - Gordon Beckham - I know it's a bit of a reach, but I really like his makeup and I think he can make the necessary adjustments at the plate. I've also read he has really nice hair.

And 5 - Buster Posey - I really like this kid too, but he just doesn't project well at other positions and I think it's too early to move Wieters from behind the plate.

1> Pedro Alvarez - #1 by far
2> Justin Smoak - Always been a fan
3>Tim Beckham - Need position prospect, but I am so impatient after Rowell and ESPECIALLY Snyder
4) Matusz - Nothing wrong with getting the top pitcher in the draft

Crow (I know this is a little higher than most, but I love his delivery. Reminds me of Lincecum in that he just seems to uncoil and release fury toward the plate. I just have a feeling about him.)

Why the switch to Beckham over Alvarez? Anything you'd care to share with us?

BA's late word that Beckham was playing very well at the end of his season, whereas Pedro has not been played well at all.

Beckham's projection is a slight concern for me. Originally listed at 6' 2- 190, he now appears to be 6' 0 - 185, and while not a tremendous difference, it had me drawing some conclusions about the things I've read. Being hailed as a potential 5-tool talent is exciting, as it gives the reader something to envision... very good speed, very good defense, very good arm, very good bat, very good power... err, maybe not so much. Time will tell, but I don't see 20+ HR's from TBeck as a pro.

Tim Beckham is a tremendous prospect and I would be elated if he fell to us at pick #4, but his pre-season projections as a pro may have been slightly off power wise. That doesn't take away from his other exceptional skills, but simply tempers my original optimism regarding his overall skill-set.

Do you think Pedro's performance right now is really going to affect him much? He has always been a top tier guy and I kind of doubt his fade matters much. The tournament is more for fringe guys to showcase and catapult or burn and drop.

Not much, no. Alvarez's abilities have been showcased on big stages over the past couple of years... he is a real offensive talent.

Absolutely no reason to take a pitcher at #4 this year. This is a hitter's draft and we need hitters in the organization.

Interesting...from reading this post it seems like you could be making just as strong a point to slot Beckham below Alvarez. Tough choice!

Considering there doesn't seem to be any concern over Alvarez's injury and Beckham doesn't quite have the frame we once thought, I think I'd still go with Alvarez first overall. I believe I've been sold on Hosmer though, he's now my #4.
