The way they described him sounded rather Ecksteiny.

Also

Kevin Goldstein (5:01:40 PM PT): Ah, I totally missed one here during my break. Baltimore's 4th rounder, Kyle Hudson, is better known for his wide receiver play at Illinois, but he's an 80 runner with a ton of range in centerfield who did a lot this spring in terms of improving his approach and baserunning to make some believe he can have some leadoff possibilities. He might be my new Orioles sleeper.

And on a side note, we just brought Fiorentino back into the organization by claiming him from the A's.

There is another team using this strategy today. Its the oakland A's and rumor has it they are pretty good at this.

Keep a close eye on the kid the Cubs just picked at 161 - Justin Bristow, East Carolina. This kid can pitch. And with the trade talks that always seem to happen between the Cubs and O's, this could be a kid that makes his way to the Orioles one day. :clap3:

Beat me to it. I was going to ask if anyone had heard of him and had an opinion of him and if it would be valuable or not. He put up some gaudy #'s but you have to question how legit they are when its 312 down the LF line. Granted theres a 18? foot wall, but still.

Jordan Danks is still available.

Scuttle butt around most UT message boards is that Danks wants 7 figures not to go back for his Senior year. As bad as it sounds, hes one guy that might dramatically imoprove his draft status for next year

Not that it means all that much, but only one of the players we picked even has a scouting report on this MLB.com site at least. In fairness, I don't know how many players they have scouting reports for.

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2008/drafttracker.jsp?p=0&s=30&sc=pick_number&so=ascending&st=number&ft=TM&fv=bal

EDIT: It looks like they didn't include scouting reports on that many players.

Probably has more to do with him being considered unsignable if he wasn't chosen by a certain round and given a predetermined amount of cash.

Pick 236 Baltimore takes Bobby Bundy (RHP) Sperry Oklahoma HS. BA has him number 96 overall, here is the scouting report:

Bundy's first-round aspirations got sidetracked when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a basketball game in December. Though his surgery usually requires a nine-month rehab, he was back on the mound with a knee brace this spring. Bundy was able to sit at 88-91 mph and touch 93 with his fastball, down 2-3 mph from last summer. He still had his trademark big-breaking curveball, which changes hitters' eye level at the plate, and he still threw strikes with ease. He has a sturdy 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame that also gives him power at the plate. Pitching with the brace forced him to smooth out his delivery, which will help him in the future. Bundy led Sperry to its second Oklahoma 3-A title in the last three years, picking up the victory and going 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the title game. He has committed to Arkansas, where he would get the opportunity to play both ways as a freshman. Whether the diminished velocity—which should return in time—drops him far enough in the draft to compromise his signability remains to be seen.

Pick 326 Nathan Moreau LHP Georgia. Here is BA's take on him:

At 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and lefthanded, Nathan Moreau passes the eye test. Like Dodson, Moreau has a decent fastball and below-average secondary stuff. His fastball is up to 91 mph with natural tail, along with a curveball and changeup. He slings the ball from slightly below a three-quarters angle. He has deception in his delivery and projection to his body. With improved command and polish on his secondary pitches, Moreau would be an impact prospect.

RHP-Bobby Bundy (8), LHP-Nathan Moreau (11), LHP-Jarrett Martin (19), C-Xavier Lopez (25), and 44th rounder and Gaithersburg High's RHP-Kevin Brady in particular were picks I liked a great deal, later in the draft.

Matusz was a great pick, and Avery, Hoes and Hudson all have upside as hitters and while Hoes runs pretty well, Avery and Hudson are true burners.

While many of us are a bit forlorn about the choices, Jordan and the scouting staff deserve the benefit of the doubt. Time will tell.

Greg, whats your take on the kid Corey Thomas from Florida. I saw he signed with South Florida along with the catcher from Hosmer's team who was pretty highly thought of. I went on South Florida's website and the coach had a page where he talked about the recruits he signed. He said Corey is a pretty good pitcher too and said that the kid can play SS. If you have any other info on him I'd appreciate it because I'm interested in learning more about this kid because he seems like a pretty decent pick.

He is a 6' 3-205 SS from a Tampa HS (Middleton). While Thomas is already 19 and will turn 20 in September, he's performed very well at Wood Bat Tourneys and has power potential. He has a very good arm but scouts question his projectability. Watching his video, I came away feeling that he looked awkward at bat. He's ranked 34th in the state by PGCrosschecker.com, and 40th by BA.
