FYI - From yesterday through next Sunday, Walmart is giving away a $100 gift card with the purchase of any Blu-Ray player - including the PS3.

I bought the second one I've been eying for my basement...

Regular price - $399 for the 40 GB, $499 for the 80 GB.

I should mention that the deal is supposed to go through 6/15, and the 80 GB version with Metal Gear packed in comes out next week.

I wish I made the elusive money thing.

God, thats a really good deal. I really wish I had the money to do this (my stimulus check comes in June 27th). I'm going to be really tempted over the next couple weeks to make the purchase despite the fact that I have no expendable money at the moment.

Well, I can aways use a Blu-Ray drive, so to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, per se...

A couple questions if you will -

1) I was wondering if there is that much of a need for the 80 GB hard drive. On my Xbox Elite, it has a 120 GB hard drive, and even with all the downloadable demos on it, I still have 90 GB left.

2) The PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable, correct? Is the port just a standard HDMI port, so any HDMI will do.

40GB model is fine, its not backward compat. though so if thats an issue you may want to check into the 80GB model. PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable and any regular HDMI will work. You can also upgrade the hardrive yourself by simply taking 2 screws out, you dont even have to open the PS3 system to change the Hard drive. Any 2.5" laptop hardrive will work I believe.

This is a phenomenal deal, I have just taken advantage of a second Blue Ray player with this deal. :D

That's correct. There are even instructions in the manual. I upgraded my launch edition 20 GB to 120 GB for $80 (a drive that size should be about $60 now) and it took all of five minutes. I think there are 4 screws involved... That said, 40 GB is still a good size.

I ordered a 6 foot HDMI and 6 foot toslink cable from monoprice.com for $12 shipped. It took about three days to arrive...
