Hopefully Greg or Stotle have some insight on this.
Any projections on what players would be a top 10 pick in next years draft, with special emphasis on college SS , 1B/3B, and P ?
I think this would weigh much more on this year's selection, than the fantasy of Tex playing 1B for Baltimore next year.
Based on various threads, it seems like Tim does not rate as A/Rod-Jeter type to be worth the wait, and Gordon is not a middle of the line-up guy.

I haven't started delving into the '09 class, but one name I already have circled is American Heritage SS Deven Marrero (same HS as Hosmer and Nieto). Marrero is a four-tool talent who projects to be a solid ML hitter with below-average power. He is a plus-plus fielder with with a plus arm and plus speed. Given he still has all summer and next year to improve his hitting and add some bulk, he could easily be in the discussion for top 10 pick next year. Mychal Givens (Plant HS -- FL) is in the same boat (actually grading out the exact same -- below average power, average hitting, plus arm and speed, plus-plus fielding).
As far as a "impact" bat for SS at the college level? Kyle Seager (UNC Soph) and Ryan Jackson (Miami Soph) are both excellent options. Ill have to wait and see how the summer goes before announcing they are top 10 talents, but I'd imagine both would be first rounders next year.

It's very early to know who will be in the top 10 in the '09 Draft, however there are some of the players that have a great chance to go that early.
Stephen Strasburg, RHSP, San Diego State (Likely #1)
Kyle Gibson, RHSP, Missouri
Alex White, RHSP, North Carolina
Matt Graham, RHSP, Oak Ridge HS, (TX)
Mychal Givens, SS/RHSP, Plant HS, (FL)
Devin Marrero, SS, American Heritage HS, (FL)
Grant Green, SS, USC
Robert Stock, C/RHSP, USC
Ryan Jackson, SS, Miami-FL

What about UNC's Dustin Ackley? Does he project as a professional 1B?

I believe Rosenthal was recently talking about how the 2009 class is being looked at as weak and that you may see teams not caring as much about losing draft picks.

Could be, but so much happens during the HS Summer Circuit and the Wood Bat Leagues that it's generally hard to get any kind of feel how how good or bad the class is actually going to be before the Fall/Winter.

Yes, he is another with high aspirations. :)

Oops, I thought you were only asking about SS. Greg nailed the question, anyway. Well done, sir.

Strassburg is unreal. It might be a weak overall year but the big fish looks to be worth tanking the season for.

Absolutely. I'd like to see him in person next year -- I have family in SD so maybe I can swing a trip next February.

I'm hiding in your luggage. SD is supposed to be awesome, and that kid would be great to see up close.
