Let me preface this by saying I like all kinds of music but if I had to state my preference for any one genre it would be metal. I'm not such of a fan of Nu Metal although it is growing on me. But I seem to have taken a liking to some metal bands from Europe. There is just a different vibe with the bands over there.
Ok, I'll kick this one off with two of my favorites that you may not have heard much about.
Lacuna Coil-Hailing from Italy the bands name roughly translated into English means "empty spiral". Most of their songs are in English but for those of you who like to hear songs in a foreign language they do have some in Italian.
Noteable cover-"Enjoy the Silence"-Depeche Mode
Nightwish-Hailing from Finland, this band is one of my favorites of all time. Were in the slightly new sub-genre of "Opratic Metal". But as of 2-3 years ago switched singers and as happens many times the new singer doesn't have the same vocal range. So they really can't do many of their old songs in concert and they switched to a slightly poppier sound. Still a good band IMO and well worth your time to check them out on Youtube.
Noteable cover-"High Hopes"-Pink Floyd
As I have found there is alot of good music that is just not making the trip overseas to our ears. Does anyone else have a European metal band that is flying under the radar in the U.S.?
