We need a solid start from Guthrie. 7IP, >4er should certainly keep us in the game with how our hitting has been recently.

keys:
taking it easy on the bullpen (guthrie 7 ip+)
nick continues his hitting streak, setting the table w/ b-rob
jones/huff stay hot
give sherril a save opportunity

Roberts stopped on the way to 2nd, not sure if it was a missed hit and run by Nick or he just didn't get a good jump and tried to make it back. Kinda think it was the former.

And for Nick's pickoff, that was the first time I have EVER seen Parrish's quick move to first work. Somebody in the O's coaching staff really dropped the ball on telling the team that Parrish does that move. Even though he usually throws it up the right field line.

MurphDogg

Yeah, but wouldn't he be better off just going for the steal and hoping for an errant throw? He was halfway to 2nd, he wouldn't have gotten back even if if Barajas had thrown to 2nd. Plus, If I have Roberts' speed, I treat every hit & run as a straight steal.

No. If there was an errant throw he likely would have gotten back to first anyway or if the ball went in to center he would have gotten to second. Further it allowed for a potential errant throw from the shortstop throwing back to first if the throw went to second. Did you see the replay? How can you defend all of Hernandez's problems?

Terrible arm He's 32. That's not that old, but as a catcher... it's getting up there. His arm's never really been supergreat.
Jogs out ground balls If he's guilty of that, then so's Millar and Huff. They all run at about the same speed. Heck, I've seen Brian loaf a few grounders, but no one's ready to beat up on him.
All the passed balls See above. He's 32 and a catcher. Is it really out of the realm of possibility that he's just getting old and doesn't move as quickly as he used to? No... he's just not trying.
Lack of power hitting Umm... doesn't he have 7 homers this year? He's not a power hitter. His career high's 23. He's broken 20 twice.
Terrible batting average His career average is .262. So this isn't something new.
Doesn't call a particularly good game That's fairly subjective. I don't think he's the greatest at it. I don't think he's the worst catcher in the bigs at it, either.

What I get sick of, more than anything, is the bashing of Ramon for a "lack of effort." If you honestly don't think he's trying then that's a personal opinion. He's a fairly laid-back baseball player. Always has been. I think his speed and quickness are declining because he's getting older. And I think that makes him appear to be loafing it more than he really is.

I'm not a chronic Ramon-basher. But some of the stuff he does behind the plate could lead to a diagnosis of laziness. Oftentimes he just throws his glove at a ball in the dirt instead of moving his body over to block it. Obviously he knows that's not the right play, but he does it with some consistency.

I'm not in his head, so I don't know if it's laziness or just a player making a bad play.

I'm not saying Ramon's a great player, but he's still servicable, and I'm sure it isn't a lack of effort on his part that has caused his decline. However, jumping on him for getting crossed up on the first pitch after the first runner reaches second in a game is just way over the line. If you're going to jump his a--, wait until he's done something to deserve it, otherwise its just hateful.

AJ with another pretty hit to the opposite field. thats how you know he is getting it. he is not worried about pulling the ball or hitting homeruns. he is putting good swings on the ball and making solid contact. thats how you have a long career.

while everyone is pressed on ramon hernandez, i think that mora needs to go this off season. trade him, do something. he is awful and does not deserve to be in the lineup every night. its getting old.

He's in the lineup because he's making $8 million this year, and there's not really anyone in the system that can fill in at third right now and do a better job than Mora defensively. Finding another third baseman should definitely be a priority this off-season. I don't think Mora's contract expires till 2009, though. If that's the case, you're probably looking at another year of Melvin.

Costanzo's not a particularly good defensive anything. Moore's okay, but he's a fall off from Mora defensively, and believe it or not, he's more than a few ticks below Mora offensively. I have a feeling you'd have already seen Moore back up in Baltimore this season if his hitting warranted the promotion.

I know you NEVER make the last out at third, but with 2 down he SHOULD have gotten a good jump off first and the throw from the outfield sailed over the cutoff man's head, so the Jays catcher would have had to turn and fire to third, where Ramon should have been standing.

His value is dropping by the day. Can't believe MacPhail would consider holding onto him in hopes of reaching .500.

Zero reason for AM to stand pat with this team the next three weeks. Changes need to be made. Just can't have the trade chips blow their value as Sherrill was working on tonight. Sad, very sad.

Or not. Well the Jays sweep us. And now we go to Boston.

Goodbye .500 and 4th place. It was nice while it lasted...

Don't look for anything but a sweep in Boston, either. I can barely stomach watching Burres start, and we know how our offense is against Bucholz.

Trade George

A little late for that. He's more valuable to us in a role he's more suited to (LOOGY/lefty setup man) than he is in a trade at this point.

Not only is it annoying watching him blow saves, he's simulataneously destroying his trade value, doubly hurting us.

Nope, wait until the sweep by the Sux in Boston before the break.

Perhaps George should do the rightful thing. Bow out of the all star game..he's not a good closer, and he's not an all star. Send Roberts or Huff as the O's rep. Come on George, you know you don't belong there. Drop out.

Nope. Nobody has tested positive for steroids, demanded a trade, or gotten arrested yet.

Why didn't Ramon go to third on Mora's hit. The throw went to the plate with no chance of being cut off, and he would have scored on Payton's single. I hope that run doesn't come back to haunt us.

I hate to have to quote myself, but I hope some people will see why I have to. Let's forget this series and move our focus to Boston. With a sweep we can get to the break over .500.

A judgement made that can never bend

See these eyes so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Just be still with me
You wouldnt believe what I've been thru
It's been so long
Well its been so long

And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline

The reason why I asked that is because, even us fans could tell that O's wouldnt win this game unless they scored more runs. Meaning 10-1 kinda score. Even than im not sure we can hold the lead with our BB.

This is silly. Player values don't change based on a couple games.
Why would you think his value is any different now than it was before? Because he had a bad week?
Jeez people, get a grip...

Why Not?

I for one did the one thing I promised I wouldn't do this season - get excited about a solid start. Reality is this team is now playing like the one most "professionals" said would lose 100+ games. I just hope it forces action by the front office. Don't stop the rebuilding halfway.

This is a 5-game losing streak.
It's the 3rd one we've had this season.
The other two were in May. People were wetting their pants then too ;-)

Yep...to get swept by this team without facing Halladay is bad. I still can't believe we gave up 22 runs to that pathetic offense.

Yeah, that's our "All-Star." Francona's an idiot! I hope he burns his whole bullpen and loses the ASG and home field advantage on a Sherril blown save and a Kinsler error. :rolleyestf:
Francona didn't pick Kinsler. He was picked by the other players. Francona added Guillen (Detroit), Sherrill (O's), Duchscherer (A's), Soria (Royals), all of whom were the only reps for their team. His other two were Navarro (Rays) and Nathan (Twins).

In my best Jim Mora voice...

Sweep?????? SWEEP???????????????????????

We'll be lucky to get a game.

This season ended with the Albers injury and George's walk-off in DC. It's been all downhill since. It was fun while it lasted, but now it's back to the last 10 years.

Wow, I guess I didn't read carefully enough. Sherrill over both Nathan and Soria was a pretty big blunder by the players. They did a pretty terrible job of voting all the way around this year. (*Varitek*)
