What the h*** is this? A re-make of the old classic 1951 Robert Wise film in which Michael Rennie was superb. There is no way this version is gonna live up to the script of the old one. Yeah, yeah, put in all the CGI special effects you wants and I doubt it will live up to the old film.

Keanu Reeves as Klaatu?

I saw the trailer at the new Batman movie and groaned when I saw it...

Yeah, I share your thoughts. I've never seen the original, but I really want to, and know that it's one of the best sci-fi films of all time. The people involved with this don't inspire me and the trailer left me a bit cold. I think it'll suck.

Is Gus Van Sant involved?

...if you don't get that joke, I'll be glad to explain.

Not sure I do get it, but I think I do...

He's responsible for probably the most pointless remake to date. In both execution and the fact that it didn't need a remake.

There is a user comment on MDB that John Cameron had the rights to this, and remarked that "would be over my dead body before somebody remakes day the earth stood still!". Hmmmm, he's no longer with it or is his body dead now?

Yeah the old film may seem a little campy due to the special effects and so on. But it's great. Period. You know what?

It's been 57 years since Citizen Kane has been made...
It's been 69 years since Wizard of Oz has been made...

Oh, wait, stop the presses. I just watched Dr. Strangelove the other day , now that one is only 44 years old.

Whats ironic is that the Wizard of Oz (1939) was a remake and has been remade, in a way, as The Wiz.

Can anyone think of a good movie-to-movie adaptation? Things like "The Wiz" don't count. I mean crap like this and the new Psycho, etc.

I just don't get the point.

I liked Ocean's 11.

Wasn't the Ten Commandments a remake?

Do remakes of foreign movies count? Insomnia was great, but I have never seen, nor probably will I, see the Scandanavian original.

The Thing...Ocean's Eleven...Dawn of the Dead wasn't too bad. The original Assault on Precinct 13 was basically an update of Rio Bravo.

Scarface, the Birdcage, Bad News Bears, Bedazzled were decent-to-good remakes

Just wait until George Lucas starts remaking the original Star Wars movies with fully-computerized effects :laughlol:

(Wait...I'm just kidding...I think...hope...)

Haven't seen the new or old Hulk movie, but I've heard that the remade one that came out this year was better than the older one.

It is.

As for this movie, I'll give it a shot when it comes out on DVD. I never saw the original, but it seems interesting.
