This user was banned for trying to skirt the 500 post rule. I traced the user's IP to a new account's IP with basically the same email. That's a no-no. End of story. If this hadn't happen, you could all still be reveling in the bikiniarmstrong experience.
And guys, you have to be internet savvy. Seriously.
Now I'm not going to reveal any personal information. I will speak in generalities.
I can find out a lot about a user. The IP is very handy. I can trace you to your job or hometown. If I can trace you to your job, this can very helpful. For example, if your IP resolved to something like houston.nasa - you work in Houston for Nasa. It's even more help when all of the IP's for a user resolve to the same host - as opposed to seeing a home IP, work IP, starbuck's IP, etc.
Some jobs reveal more about a person than other jobs. And sometimes you hit a homerun, where you just can absolutely figure out what a person does and where they live. And all I'll say is, I'm not really certain the stuff in 'her' profile is legit. I may be wrong, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter... This wasn't the first poster to be banned for trying to steal from us, and it won't be the last.

I was suspicious when she invited me to North Carolina to hang out. And - just to be clear - a woman's interest in me does make me suspicious.
Sadly, I thought it was my gender-based deconstruction of his/her screenname that ran her off. Now I find out s/he's just cheap.

There was more conversation than I care to admit to about her/ him, and his/ her gender. And she/ he invited me too, so I'm beginning to think it was some kind of slave trade/ butcher deal. Because, even though I am married to a lovely girl, I am made even more suspicious by interest in me. Drag. Heh.

Bikiniarmstrong is an interesting case if I look into it. This user has been with us since 2005, joining as 'Autographs2005'. There aren't many posts that have survived pruning, but all that's left are sincere autograph inquiries.
The user then started to use the account 'bikiniarmstrong' in May. This alter ego started out talking serious, knowledgeable baseball. This thread is cracking me up. Here are some assumptions I have made on this whole bikiniarmstrong character.
1) I am fairly certain that anyone who payed her/him the least bit of attention got some kind of P.M. from him/her. Guilty!
2) When the profile pic changed from sweet little girl in a prom dress to fake breasted thing wearing bikini model, that's when the red flag went up with most of us.
3) HanksGF called this thing from the start. Everyone else who is NOW saying they knew is full of poop!
4) As I said last Saturday at Hangout Night, there is only one person on the Hangout capable of this farce. Its the same person who posts scantily clad women daily in his avatar. Bikiniarmstrong is....... WEAMS!
Now, what I really want to know is this. Those of us like myself and Drek who are married and were plkaying along is one thing. But I want to know...which of you single guys were actually caught up in this whole thing and were considering meeting up with the elusive Msssster Armstrong? :scratchchinhmm:

I am guilty of sending her a PM based solely on the premise of recruiting her talents(this was before the scantily clad pics) in the area of bikini sciences. I believe that our president Drektunes made me do it for the cause. And then last week I get a pm from IT (thanks FLK) asking me about the thread that I started about how many profile views you had and then IT tries to play dumb with me saying I wonder why so many people look at my profile. So I'm clean also. I think that someone said that SanFran is on his way to topsail, nc which I think could be spot on. Another person she was pm'ing quite a bit that I noticed was one poster with the handle 'sideburns'

I was suspicious when she invited me to North Carolina to hang out. And - just to be clear - a woman's interest in me does make me suspicious.
Sadly, I thought it was my gender-based deconstruction of his/her screenname that ran her off. Now I find out s/he's just cheap.
Hey, she did the same to me and said he would model one of her bikini's for me in her shop. Granted, this was knowing I am 53 years old and sight unseen!:laughlol:
I'm single, but I never once flirted with it. I always had a really strong idea, though I won't say that I knew from the beginning.
About the longest interaction I had with it was when I was volunteered to ask it if its pictures were real.
Consequently, I also never got invited to North Carolina. Lame.

A couple of things:
I had a fleeting thought that bikiniarmstrong was actually a mod having a good time with members of the board...a bit of a prank/hoax, if you will. Then I thought better of it once the sexual PM's started rolling in.
I totally called her out on PMing other members after FLK and I talked and exchanged what...uh...topics...were covered or uncovered in our conversations. Suddenly she stopped PMing me. :)
I PMed her a couple days later asking what happened and if we could still be friends ;) and she wrote back that she was hurt that I would go behind her back and talk about her with another member :laughlol: After a good chortle I wrote her back and told her that she wasn't fooling anyone by PMing practically all the OH regulars. :) Never heard from her again.
I never said anything to he/she on here, but I was lucky enough to get a PM from her with a compliment regarding my looks after posting on the profile views thread. She got quite insulted when I said I wasn't sure if I believed her to be who she said she was. I never got invited to NC but she did say she wanted to come out to SoCal. She asked me what I would show her a few times, and it became obvious she was looking for a sexual answer. I didn't feel comfortable going down that route considering I didn't know if I was even talking to a girl, and I didn't know him/her period. We were exchanging messages very recently, so who knows where it would have went.
I will admit that I continued to talk to him/her due to the slight chance she was who she said she was, but I certainly was quite skeptical. I also never saw the marine pic or paid any attention to her before, so I didn't have any of this info people are mentioning that made it seem even more suspicious.
Interesting experience though.
So there's my bikini story.:laughlol:

I was curious to see what everyone was talking about, so I did check out it's profile. A couple hours later, I received that same message from it. So to humor myself, I responded back about how nice the pictures were. It kept responding back wanting to know what picture was my favorite. I just kept responding that I liked the ones with just the shoes. I guess it got tired of me not seriously answering the question, so it eventually stopped PM'ing me.... and I didn't even get an invite to Carolina to go to a photo shoot.

Yeah, I wonder if some of the newer members realize that we DO talk to one another???? We are not just faceless "handles" on a message board.
Also, it is becoming more and more obvious that IT did this PM thing until each person caught on and questioned IT. As soon at that happened, she cut off PM communications and went on to the next victim. Guess we are not all as dumb as Drek looks! :)

No. If you get caught shoplifting, should you be let go if someone offers to pay for the stolen goods? And there are at least 4 great registered members who still use this board regularly, but have 500 posts and can't afford a Plus Membership. These people would have my charity vote first.

Number 1, you don't have to bring this up in every correspondence with me - PM, Rep, Quote - I get it. Emoticon or not, it's just odd that you can't let that go.
Number 2, we don't police every thread. We rely on our users to report the things we don't see. You're right, even though I skimmed through it yesterday, it didn't register with me that the three words thread is out of hand. I will close it and file infractions where necessary.

How come we are allowed to have a 10 page thread on BikiniArmstrong when she is released? But when other, shall I say 'normal', users here get released for one reason or another, the thread that was created to ask 'why' is locked and we're told, "It's none of your business"? Did she? Really? I mean, I answered "her" flurry of emails. But never really tookn her "her" as real. I assumed the rest of the folks did the same.
As far as I go, it takes a lot more than a PM to get me under anyone's thumb. I've got far too many ex-es who'd gladly/bitterly attest to that. I assumed the general level of adulthood (*laugh*) on this board would preclude any true, nutty "head-over-heels" behavior.
But it's true, I think, that men aren't as attuned to female imposters as woman posters - the first warning sign should be when a woman poster so obviously foregrounds sexuality/objectifies herself. There are really only two brands of women who do that: (i) those operating for profit; (ii) those who aren't women.
As I noted before, as soon as I determined "she" wasn't the former, I lost interest. ;)

But when other, shall I say 'normal', users here get released for one reason or another, the thread that was created to ask 'why' is locked and we're told, "It's none of your business"? I find that funny. Why is BikiniArmstrong the exception? I find it funny too that 'management' is openly talking to us about what they do 'behind the scenes'. Really classy. Sounds a little like communism in a way. Just my proverbial two cents, as they say.
This might be the most ludicrous comparison to communism I've ever seen. And I grew up in Cecil County, Md., where the political conversation ain't generally like the McLaughlin Group.

A lot of times there is a lot of behind the scenes fighting that goes on - PM's, things are said to staff, etc. Stuff that we can't/won't say. Posters might say 'he was a good guy, this is BS!' - but don't know the full story and can't know the full story. I'd love to tell you some of the horrible things said to me and the threats that have been made, but I can't.
BA was dropped for registering for a second account. It's good to put this out there. Why? Because you should know the consequences. That's all I've really said about BA, outside of a general/non-BA specific warning to be internet savvy.
I find it funny too that 'management' is openly talking to us about what they do 'behind the scenes'. Really classy.
The only thing I've mentioned about behind the scenes stuff is that we traced IP's and queried PM volume.
We routinely trace IP's everyday, specifically to catch banned user's trying to re-register or to catch user's trying to skirt the 500 post rule. I wish everyone was honest and that we didn't have to do that.
If you have specific concerns or ideas about how you would prefer things be handled, please feel free to PM me.

Wow, this is hilarious. I had no idea this was going on.
Haha, me either. But then I've been here for like 5 years and have 34 PMs total (and half of those are replies that I sent to the people that PM'd me in the first place).
Clearly I'm missing a whole other facet of the OH community.

Me, too. But I think it popped up due to my repeated references to exotic dancers. (I looked it up, apparently John Powers has taken money from the Talley-Ho!. Never been, but his opponent claims that makes him allied with "cultural misogyny").

All I can say if a user is actually upset over all of this they may have been more involved with bikini than most.
It's extremely dissapointing to actually see someone get upset over this to the point my moderators had to take action.
Whether you got caught up with "her" or whether you knew bikini was not real from the beginning, or somewhere in between, it doesn't really matter. Her original photos were of a real person and it's understandable if a youg woman shows interest in you to show it back. Now, when she suddenly becomes "too interested" in you sight unseen, that's when I suspect the red flags should go up.
When you find out she's PMing half the guys on the board, red flags, red flashing lights, and sirens should go off.
When she changes her photos to some bikini model who wasn't the same as the person before, Chris Hansen should be e-mailing you telling you to stay away.
Seriously though, I don't think anyone thinks less of you no matter where you fall on the spectrum. Now to get all bent out of shape because of all of this is immature and ridiculous.

See anything you like?" type message and I said that one of those pairs of shoes looks uncomfortable and then zie was like "So you like looking at my shoes, huh?" and I was like "Okay............?"
I got "I noticed you looking at my profile. Can I help you with anything?" I wrote back "No thanks" and never heard another word. It probably wouldn't have had much interest in me since I'm female, although who knows???

Edited to add: That definitely cements gender in my mind. I don't think many women would post pictures of themselves up on a profile in bikinis, although some certainly would. But I can only see a dude posing as a woman telling another woman "Hey, post pictures of yourself up there. It's great!"

A few minutes after I sent my request, I received a PM from "her" asking why I wanted to be his/her friend? "Her" tone was slightly accusatory, so I said that I send everyone who gives me positive rep a request.
Let me be quite clear. I am innocent of all charges. Ask Mclovin.

That did not play well for the Germans. Tsk, Tsk.

Yes but it is so much more than that, I started the thread in the rants section as a fistbump hater and through the help of many of my new friends in the fellowship (you know who you are) I am a convert. We even have my wife in the fellowship as the chaplain, we are currently accepting applications from females as we now have only one, my wife. But alas we will prevail with or without you blueberryale.
Yeah Jim your Mom should be getting an invite in the next day or so. I don't know what kudzu is but I like it. *fistbump*

We are glad we could help. *fistbump*

You got witnesses, weams? Pictures? No? Then it never happened.
By the way...who added the tag "bait and switch"? Gold, that is! :D

Here's a question, back to the topic at hand...
Did this shim ever send any of your sketchballs any non-OH pictures?
Let's hear the "most interesting" conversation someone had with this young man. Just go to your private messages, copy and paste the oddest email it ever sent you.
Is that okay or is that against some obscure board rule? Like the law that says you can't let your dog sleep in your bathtub...

Well this idea deserves a *fistbump* as well.

Oops! My few PMs from this person were deleted. To make room for other conversations.
Any way we could increase the 70 PM limit? :)

I think -- THINK -- that it sent me something a long time ago asking some random question. I don't do PMs really so I promptly deleted it and moved on in my life.
However, I think I may have found the true identity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU) of Ms./Mr. Bikini Armstrong....

Roytt! And this is "moving on with your life"? Researching transsexual singers on youtube? However, it has possibilities....:scratchchinhmm:. Whither bikini indeed....:), however, we all know that bikini was released because Carey just couldn't handle not receiving a PM from the formerly popular BA.
