ESPN is reporting that Posada is having season ending shoulder surgery. Will MacPhail trade in the division in this scenario?

The Yanks don't want Hernandez. They are after cheaper, better solutions.

I'd ship him to the Yanks if they would take him. They probably wouldn't take him though. If they were remotely interested, there is no reason why AM shouldn't eat some salary.

If the Yanks are interested and its the best deal, you do it. You can't worry about trading in the division, especially when you are probably at least two years away from competing.

Thank you. This has been suggested a gazillion times in the last few weeks and has no chance of happening. None.

I don't know, since when do the Yankees care much about cheaper? And Ramon hit .273 and .279 in June and July, homered against the Yanks tonight, with an ops over .800 since June. What better catchers are they going to find?

I think it's Hernandez's contact and questionable ability behind the plate that hurt his trade value.

I'm pretty sure he would be a yank for nothing more than them taking on the rest of his contract. Even the yanks won't do that.

This is the first thing I thought when I read Posada is done for the year.

Hey, Ramon ain't much anymore behind the plate, he is like a generic catcher... fills the position. But he's hitting like crazy. It wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever to me. What other sho nuff hitting catcher is out there? And available?

And Buster can't spell acquired. This is interesting though

Didn't Cashman say just yesterday that they are not in the market for a catcher? Just goes to show you that you can never trust what comes out of a GM's mouth.

Wow, Pudge for Farnsworth? Tigers got hosed.

Was that before Jorge opted for surgery? Just curious.

And yeah. Cashman did well.

Tigers aren't even really out of it. 5.5 out? Trade their starting catcher? interesting. Their team is full of vets. Gary Shef, Polanco, Magglio

Inge is just as good as Pudge and Farnsworth is having a good year. Plus the Detroit BP is pretty poor due to injuries.

Is it just me or does this mean that the O's have to be able to get something decent for Bradford? Sherrill? Maybe even Walker?

I know, I know - wishful thinking.

Too bad the Yankees didn't get him before the end of this series so the O's could throw at him for what he did to Roberts and Fahey last time we played the Tigers. :angryfire:

Thus ending the .001% chance of a Hernandez trade to the Yankees.

The Yankees just acquired Pudge from the Tigers, so scratch one more team off the possible destination list for Ramon:

Yeah, and all they gave up is K Farn. Man they fleeced the Tigers on this one.

Bad news for Tampa and Boston. This is going to make their lineup virtually the toughest in baseball.

Isn't Pudge's OPS only in the mid-700s this year?

Not sure what DET is thinking here really, I know they need RP's but this is a stretch. Trading Pudge for 20 IP of Farnsworth? Doesn't make any sense really.

Oh well, at least the Yanks crappy bullpen is getting crappier.

I believe he started out pretty terrible and has come along as the year has gone on, so the 700s is a little misleading. 877 and 866 the last two months. Hopefully it was just a hot streak and he will cool down soon.

Huh? MLB now tests for steroids... losing Posada for Rodriguez is a big let down.

But that is not a relevant comparison, because Posada was out anyway. And though Pudge is not what he used to be, he is an upgrade over Jose Molina or Chad Moeller.

That said Pudge is probably only worth a win or two in the standings. Only 50-some games left, of which he will probably only play in 40-some. The defense from the C position is not that much improved. The extra few hits Pudge will get over Molina/Moeller is unlikely to alter history dramatically, but it is clearly an improvement.
