And already another error by our shortstop.

Wait, seriously, this is the game thread? Unbelievable.

Oh well, I just came by to beat my dead horse. His name is Alex Cintron, and as usual he deserves a good beating!

No, but he was awfully close. The one time an ump decides not to allow the "neighborhood" call, its when the Os are involved.

direct word from the Indians radio commentor:

"He touched the bag and it wasn't called, the tribe will take it!"

Interesting. The O's radio guys conceded that he was behind the bag and not even close. On top of that, he should have had a pretty easy play at first but took his usual couple of steps before making a weak throw.

Meanwhile, the three real baseball players in the infield turn a double play to get out of the inning. See how easy that is, Mr. "Shortstop"? :rolleyestf:

Castro has a groin pull. He was supposed to come back today but was scratched from the lineup. But this is why Fahey should be the utility guy instead of Cintron.

He needs to suck it up and play :D Cintron started out decent but continues to fall into the "unbearable to watch" category.

blueberryale77
08-11-2008, 07:40 PM
yeah. I wonder why he isn't?

It may be as simple as the fact that Fahey still had an option left... or there may be some evil conspiracy to frustrate the living daylights out of O's fans by making us watch a Daniel Cabrera impersonator (without the arm) play shortstop. ;)

ChrisAF79

The play at 2nd with Cintron was BS in my opinion. He didn't touch the bag, but it wasn't blatant and he was very close to it at the very least. 99 times out of a 100 that's an out.

On another note, Sarfate is really stinking up the joint tonight.

ChrisAF79
08-11-2008, 07:45 PM
The "Sarfate as a starter" experiment should be over after tonight's game. He just doesn't have the command to get deep into a game. He's a thrower, not a pitcher.

The neighborhood play is kind of like getting the benefit of the doubt on borderline pitches. If you've earned your stripes as a respectable SS/2B, you get the call. If you're as awful as Cintron, you haven't earned the privilege of stretching the rules. Besides, he screwed up the throw to first too. I think the umpire just got frustrated feeling like he was at a little league game with all the substandard defense and pitching we're putting out there.

I suppose, but I'm not exaggerating when I say that 99 out of 100 times the umpire makes the out call in that situation. If he were blatantly off the bag I would agree with you, but he was literally within 6-12 inches of the bag.

I agree with you that it's 99 out of 100 for the average Major League player, but whenever the play is not called, it's either a rookie or someone who doesn't belong in the majors. Cintron has no business being at shortstop, so I can't really blame the umpire for expecting him to do the job by the textbook.

The Indians announcers are terrible. When the Indians got the call, the umps made a great call, but when the Os get the call, it was a bad call and clearly the wrong call. They're not as bad as the White Sox announcers, but they are bad.

This inning is entirely's Mora's fault.

Ramon had no throw since NMora was in no-man's land. Even if Cintron didn't let Mora know he was at 3rd Mora has to back up and create space for the run down.

Now Mora boots a double play grounder. Mora can clutch hit but he makes the dumbest decisions I've ever seen.

Methinks you are letting Ramon off the hook there. It's not as if Mora was standing in the baseline. Ramon had plenty of time to throw the ball, and thought (for some reason) that he had closing speed.

Mora's play was ruled a hit... not sure it is booting a GIDP

I had to logon just to say that everything ever is Ramon's fault. Everything. EVER.

As much as I despise Ramon, I'm going to have to disagree. Everything is Cintron's fault. It's an Orioles shortstop thing.

He caused Ramon's brain fart by being so horrible at catching baseballs that Ramon was afraid to throw to him (I'm only half joking on that one) and spread his Cintron germs to Mora, causing him to screw up that other play. Also made Jamie Walker get old, Castillo hit those batters, Sarfate not be capable of starting and the O's organization think he was. After the game tonight, Cintron is going to steal an SUV and drive it over Markakis, Roberts, Huff, Guthrie and Johnson. Then he'll drive it to Bowie and take out Matt Wieters. :p

You know what? You're right, Alex Cintron sucks. He's really stinky.

But at least he's not a "staple" of this team.

Ramon Hernandez IS.

Melvin Mora IS.

Jay Payton IS.

These three make the dumbest mistakes time and time and time again, I'm just so sick and tired of watching them play. I know we don't really have a younger option at third base who's any good, but I would be ELATED to watch Costanzo or Moore out there every night. I would be ECSTATIC to see Nolan Reimold in left field and whoever in centerfield, Roberson or Tike Redman would be fine if Montanez couldn't handle it. And obviously Wieters behind the plate. There is no way on Earth or any other planet that Wieters could be worse than Ramon Hernandez. There is simply no way in hell.

So tired of watching fundamental mistakes from our "veterans."

I bet my cat's better... :) He's got the reflexes even though he's in baseball shape - as in round... :laughlol:

We should enter both our cats into the Orioles shortstop competition. One of them would win the starting job and the other could be the utility player.

And the inning comes to an end and Bierd gets out of the inning without giving up a run...

He's in the running with Castillo for "Best Oriole relief pitcher performance of the night." Walker and Cherry juuuuuust missed the cut...

You know what? You're right, Alex Cintron sucks. He's really stinky.

But at least he's not a "staple" of this team.

Ramon Hernandez IS.

Melvin Mora IS.

Jay Payton IS.These three make the dumbest mistakes time and time and time again, I'm just so sick and tired of watching them play.

Same sht, different year.I missed the early part of the game. What bonehead plays did Payton make? Mora failed to make what would have been a web gem if he had been able to turn two. I don't see what his mistake is.

I'm not referring to this particular game. I'm referring to the countless times Payton has watched the guy in front of him walk, then come up and swing at the first pitch... the countless times I've seen him allow an extra base because he missed a cutoff man, etc....

And Melvin Mora could have probably been left off the list, but he's just another veteran who isn't part of the future of this team.

I'm just highly pissed off after watching that ridiculous play. Melvin, apologies. You shouldn't have been included in that rant ;)
