View Full Version : New Oasis Single
So here is Oasis' first single off their new CD, which is released October 8th. The single isn't officially released until September 29th, but some radio stations played it this morning, so its all over You Tube.
Oasis - The Shock Of the Lightning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeGfLf5cnuw)
And here is another song off the new CD, which was leaked when it was accidentally put on sale on iTunes for a very short period of time.
Oasis - Falling Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPad-nZqFmw)
I'm really liking the sound of the new album so far. I can't wait to hear the other 9 songs that are going to be on the CD. This could be mega. I wonder how many times I'm going to see them in concert this tour? (3 last time)
Any thoughts?

Man! Oasis is HARD core! How is it that they aren't household names by now? Like myself, you hear them once and fall like a schoolgirl crush... DAYAM!

So you like it? :D
They have an insane catalog of songs. Even their B-sides are incredible.
Check out.. Getting Older, Carry Us All, Solve My Mystery, You've Got The Heart Of A Star, and Lets All Make Believe.
EDIT: Oh, and I Wanna Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJjD29c33rY), Stop The Clocks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvx27VoEKhk), and Nothin' On Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp6f4W1-hmU&feature=related) are some leaked Demos, but they're not supposed to be on the new CD. Tis a shame.

They're like the Beatles, but time immemorial... a tangent if the Beatles went down this road.......
Who produced this? George Martin? :p
And they still invoke so many other bands and players! Moody Blues. Yes. George Harrison. The chords and the whole vibe in The Shock of the Lightning are terrible... in the biblical (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=JOEL%202:11&version=9;) "Great and terrible" kind of way. If I may say so...
I think my favorite part of "The Shock Of the Lightning" is the drum solo, followed by that little guitar solo. Wicked.

I really like that one song I think it was "I wanna live a dream in a record machine", and kinda hoped that it would make the record. But I'll give these a listen :)
edit: just saw you posted it above
I really liked DBTT, so I think they way they're talking about this one it's gonna be good, now that the other guys are still involved in the songwriting. Is that still Zak Starkey doing the drumming?
Some of my favorite Oasis songs are the ones where they just absolutely tear up the place. The Shock of the Lightning is one of those songs. And probably has some of the best drumming I've ever heard in an Oasis track.
Headshrinker is an example of what I'm talking about.
Falling Down sounds pretty good, too. It's back on sale now on iTunes (and the album is up for pre-order).

Starkey drummed on the album, yes.
But he left the band shortly after they finished the album. The new drummer is Chris Sharrock, who drummed for Robbie Williams.

Yeah, I was sad to see Starkey go. I have no idea how good the new guy is, but I'm sure hes not bad.
Also interesting is that "The Boy With The Blues" won't be on the album either. I remember in the early discussion of the new album Noel talked it up as the best song Liam ever wrote. He said it would probably be the first single off the new album. Maybe we'll see it as a B-side.
And I really want to hear a finished version of I Wanna Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine). They were saying for a while it was epic, like 11 minutes long, with 3 separate guitar solos. They said it was going to be the last song on the new album. Maybe next album.

They're always sacking their drummers! I can understand them getting rid of Tony, but not sure why Alan White left. I heard it was something about him and Noel getting into a heavy argument.

So you guys are really saying that the new Oasis album is worth listening to, huh?
I feel like I've gone down that road and been bitterly disappointed. I really can't say I have enjoyed much of any of their stuff since "The Masterplan" was released.
It's a shame because that early stuff was so good...and I still find them hilarious. This coming from a long time Blur supporter.

I'm saying that based off of the 2 songs that can be heard from their upcoming album, it could very well be "worth listening to". I use the quotes because I haven't ever personally come across an Oasis song that I didn't like.
I think they get unfairly criticized with their last few albums.
Don't Believe The Truth was a great album, it was just a more laid back effort.
Heathen Chemistry has Little By Little, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, The Hindu Times, Songbird, and a bunch of underrated songs. Take out A Quick Peep and Better Man, replace them with You've Got The Heart Of A Star and Idler's Dream and it would be a great album.
Standing On the Shoulder Of Giants has Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love, Sunday Morning Call, Gas Panic!, and Where Did It All Go Wrong. Replace I Can See A Liar, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Little James with Lets All Make Believe, Carry Us All, and Just Getting Older and, again, its a great album.
I feel like Oasis has the best B-sides of any band and they've made some poor choices between A-Side and B-side for their last few albums. Hopefully they don't let me down with the new CD.

Cool. I want to love Oasis again...I really do. I'll check out the new stuff.

"Hey Now" could be the best song of all time.

It's pretty damn good.
As far as these new songs go:
"The Shock of the Lightning" is kind of krautrockish, but a little too repetitive.
"Falling Down" is kind of interesting because I can't really figure out who they ripped off with this song.

I think it was Andy that came up with makeup of Turn Up the Sun. When I first heard that, I was hooked on the album. Had a pretty good feel about what the rest of the album was gonna sound like.
Thought that SOTSOG was pretty interesting. I wanted to hear what it would be like without guigsy and bonehead, and realized they didn't make much of a difference anyways haha. I always look at that album as the "comeback" album, even though it didn't get as much praise. Liam's voice getting raspier might have turned some people off, I dunno. That said, it's my least favorite of all their albums.
I was looking forward to Heathen Chemistry because with the new band members and seemingly new attitude, I just wanted to hear it so bad. I like the album, but it's taking a looong time to like the Hindu Times.

I just can't justify spending $100 on this (http://store.oasisinet.com/store/page4.asp?suptype=1&t=1&sub_type=5&prod_id=250&col=30), but I would love to own it.

I would get that if I really loved it that much, but I'll wait as well.
Some guy is selling the sugar shaker (http://www.mistersifter.com/personal/shaker.jpg)from the WTSMG album sleeve. When I asked how much, he said 2500 pounds, which is like, what almost $4000. But he'll negotiate if anyone really wants it. I wanted it for the nostalgia, but I'm not paying anything with triple digits for that...
I do have a '58 re-issue Gibson Les Paul that was an actual studio guitar of Noel's. That one I have to keep under glass or something instead of playing it :D

Same here. I would love to get it, but I'm not going to buy it.
Hopefully they release a version with all the extra songs, but without everything else.

Yeah, Andy Bell and Gem Archer were great additions to the band. I love Turn Up the Sun.
I agree SOTSOG is their worst album, but replacing some of the A-sides with some of the B-sides (like I posted about) would've made it great.
I really like The Hindu Times... I could do without Force Of Nature though.
I just want an actual copy of "Lord Don't Slow Me Down."
I bought the "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" DVD when it came out.... but it was the UK version or something and I can't play it on any of my DVD players! Something about the region code. I was pissed, I was looking forward to it so much.
As for the actual song "Lord Don't Slow Me Down", have you heard the version with Liam on vocals? I like that version better.
Oasis - Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Liam on vocals) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDDNgmnUJBw)
The new CD just keeps looking better and better. Heres another new song off the new album that they've been playing live on their tour.
Oasis - To Be Where There's Life (Live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2GDHtm2b48)
I think I like this song better than 'The Shock Of The Lightning' and 'Falling Down' and I really like those songs. I especially like the lines: "Fears don't, try me. Tears stop, from crying" and "Dig out your sooooooooouuuuuul, cause here we go".
And Ain't Got Nothin' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp6f4W1-hmU&feature=related) is the 4th song from the new CD that we've heard. Here's a live version: Ain't Got Nothin' (Live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0_WRbTG84Q)
